Not exactly a new idea, but just look at how many of these crisis are actually
covered by the Constitution?
Great idea Joseph. Now tell us where to start.
Logical disconnect. How does reducing the size of government make the crises go
away?"And in that day shall be heard of wars and rumors of wars,
and the whole earth shall be in commotion, and men's hearts shall fail them
. . ."
Or...We could only spend maybe twice as much in defense as China. And, maybe we should stop invading middle eastern countries? We've
spent over $5 trillion Afghanistan and Iraq alone! Obviously, contrary to what
your precious Bush said, Iraqi oil ain't gonna pay for that war!If only we would stop being the world's policeman. We just cannot afford
it anymore. We cannot afford anymore repub charity to other countries, handouts
to Haliburton, and handouts to vicious dictators like Karzai.
Let's start by cutting military spending by 70%. Half of those issues
mentioned would have never been issues were it not for the corporate
profiteering at the hands of American death merchants.
America in crisis? Obama says everything is fine! There is not even a
"smidgeon of corruption" in the federal government, the economy is
great, Obamacare is wonderful, the exploding national debt isn't a problem,
all his scandals are "phoney" and "Al Qaida is on the run"! With
"leadership" like that who needs to worry?
Anyone else here have the same hunch as me? Joe didn't have any problem
with the size of the ameeican government from 2000-08. Then, something changed
in January of 2009. Anyone want to take a guess what? And had Romney
been elected in 2012, anyone else have a hunch that this letter would have never
existed?I'll believe joe's convictions and feelings are
true and sincere when he writes these types of letters when his president is
trampling all over the constitution.
Get rid of the guvment. Let's turn this place into Somalia. But
let's keep increasing defense spending and re-invade Iraq.
@ Mountain ManRemember when your president said that we'd be
treated as liberators in Iraq? With leadership like that, who needs
And when we stop treatment, the cancer goes away! Voila. Excellent right wing
Brilliant. Translation: we have all kinds of problems only government can solve.
So what we need is less government. Love the reasoning. My car just broke Dow,
and my new job is a longer commute from my home. Obvious solution: sell the car,
and invest in better shoes.
Ah yes, that nasty Federal Government that will not allow Utah to run as a
theocracy. That unrighteously asserts Article VI and Amendments V and
XIV to the National Constitution when striking down our wishes to violate that
document. That entity which forces us to preserve the natural beauty
of our lands so we can sell it to oil drillers. We are concerned about National
Debt being left to our granchildren, but pay no thought as to the state of the
planet we would leave them. That Government that has kept us safe
from our enemies. That Government for which countless millions have shed their
blood to create and protect. That Government which fostered an environment for
the Restoration of the Gospel. That Government that ensures responsibility of
every citizen to provide for their Healthcare.Yes, we need to
dismantle that and re-instate Good Ol' Utah values of "If you
don't like it leave" And where we preach family values, but do not
@ Atlas Smashed: Actually we did liberate Iraq! Got rid of a murdering dicator
just like we have done dozens of times before and threatened to do again in
Syria. We gave Iraq a wonderful opportunity. Too bad they and Obama squandered
it and yes, we will be attacked again by our enemies who want to murder you!
Obama apolgized to them, didn't he? So why are they still trying to kill
us?@ E Sam: The government created most of our crisises, please
explain how you think the government is capable of solving any of them!
The largest crisis America has ever faced will come to an end in November when
liberals lose control of the Senate but even more so in 2016 when Obama leaves
the White House! Then the rest of us can restore America's dignity,
opportunities for all those who are willing to work and along with it, our
greatness and pride as a nation!
@Thid BarkerThe largest crisis America has ever faced ========Hyperbole much? The Great Depression? Pearl Harbor?
World War II? 9/11? The Revolution? The Civil War? Are all of these less of
a crisis we faced then ... Barack Obama and a Democratic Majority in the
Senate?Inflammatory rhetoric is what makes discourse and discussion
impossible. It is one thing to disagree with the way Government is moving and
provide solutions to fix it; and another thing entirely to scream the sky is
falling and provide no solutions.
@ Thid2 wars, a failing economy, bursting debt, a corrupt regime,
and millions of Americans lost their jobs in 2008. America was in crisis while
your president fiddled.Democrats will continue to control the Senate
and will win the White House for 8 more years.President Clinton,
welcome to the White House.
I am old enough to remember the mess of the many crisises in which Jimmy Carter
left our nation! We overcame Jimmy Carter, we can and will over come Barrack
Obama too! That is our real hope and change and to most Americans (according to
recent polls) it is not "inflamitory" but a source of strength!
Can't wait until November!
@mountainman. We should have never been in Iraq in the first place. It is not
our job to liberate people, right? Otherwise we should be liberating all those
immigrants at the border.
Atlas....For a minute I thought you were talking about Obama..
because that pretty much describes his presidency...For the Record,
Most Republicans were not happy with Bush either. because he was a bit a big
spender... thus the boot of the GOP in 2008 in both the House and Senate. What I understand as an Independent, is the GOP supporters want a return
to basic GOP principles.. Smaller Government, Less taxes for people, economic
policies that support the free market and above all a Strong Military to
"DETOUR" attacks..If Mitt had been elected, we may or may
not have the issues we have today... but one thing is certain...Obama's
lack of Leadership is the reason we have so many issues today. Many of Liberals
are now starting to think this way as well.
OK - Let's compare:Liberal plan -- America 1st.American jobs, for Americans.American taxes, for American problems.Tea-Publican solution?Invade foregin countries for no real
cause, threat or reason -- but OIL.Spend $5 Trilllion with NO plan to pay
for it.Allow, even encourage businesses to off-shore to COMMUNIST China,
Handing-out no-bid contracts, bailing out WallStreet, and Corporations --
while taking away from the poor, sick and the needy.Play the
World's Police Force -- to avoid all those "Just-in-Case",
they're coming to get us -- paranoid scenarios.
In the far far distant future, might there be some intelligence that would
ponder the reason for the extinction of most of the life on earth, including
those known as human beings. Would they choose the cause as being the comet
that smashed into the earth and disregard any evidence of the world wide atomic
war that was going on at the time.
Open Mind....You think the Tea Party wants to invade other
countries? Have you send Rand Paul's rants lately (he is the Tea Party
poster child)?"Allow, even encourage businesses to off-shore to
COMMUNIST China, "um.... Did Obama BORROW billions of dollars
from the COMMUNIST China of which you speak? So it is better to borrow from
them, than to send businesses off shore? Both are equally wrong.
Think about it Curmudgeon: Vastly reduce the size of government, and you
automatically reduce the number of those who make up most of the crises.
That's an easy one, ECR, but we're only allowed 200 words in each
posting. Seriously, we could start with all those agencies and programs that are
not enumerated in the Constitution.
You've got me wrong, Atlas Smashed. I've had a problem with the size
of government for many years. Up until Obama was elected, I considered GWB the
worst president in US history. Now, he's the second worst.
Confused said, "For the Record, Most Republicans were not happy with Bush
either. because he was a bit a big spender... thus the boot of the GOP in 2008
in both the House and Senate."If Republicans were so unhappy
with George Bush why did he get re-elected? If you guys would just accept that
you made a bad choice instead of disclaiming your support for the guy, you might
have some credibility today. But you don't. Six years of obstructionism
without doing anything significant in Congress has only added to the lack of
credibility Republicans bring to the table.
I still have to remember Ted Cruz being interviewed on CNN and being asked the
question, "What have you done to solve any problems that you are complaining
about?" Mr. Cruz didn't know what to say and got visibly frustrated.
The interviewer kept asking he question and there was no answer from an
obviously befuddled Cruz. I loved U-Tube for replaying that millions
of times. No answers then, and no answers now. We former GOP
supporters are amazed by the lack of effort, leadership, compromise and what
little, if anything the GOP has accomplished in the last 6 years.
Health care, energy, global warming, infrastructure deterioration, all can be
fixed with a smaller, and of course less costly to you government? Do
tell...how? Now's your chance. Fix it. Spend less, and do so much more.
Now. If this is all you've got, it had better be enough. Show us how.
I might suggest turning off the TV for a couple of hours, take a drive up in the
mountains and I imagine you will survive the day...
@ Emerger"You've got me wrong, Atlas Smashed. I've had a
problem with the size of government for many years. Up until Obama was elected,
I considered GWB the worst president in US history. Now, he's the second
worst."So you voted for Kerry in 2004, correct? And
how many letters to the editor did you write back then criticizing the Bush
regime?Repubs, if you wish to have any credibility then you need to
be consistent. Don't sweep your principles and convictions under the rug
when a repub is in charge. Repubs cheerleading as Bush drove this country off a
cliff and then criticizing Obama before he even moved into the White House
doesn't win you any credibility at all. And seeing the GOP's dismal
approval rating, most Americans see through your smoke and mirrors.
ECR....IF you look at GWB spending, most of it came in the second
term. That is where he started doing the Democrats "Creative"
funding. That is also why he lost the Senate at mid term.Yes, most of the GOP people I have talked to did not like Bush because of his
Real Maverick....If you are going to call out the Republicans for
complaining about Obama and Not GWB...Then at least be as consistent
yourself (as you want the republicans to be) and stop white washing the current
President failings.I remember a lot of "Conservatives" that
bashed on Bush for his spending habits, I can not say the same about the
"Liberals" doing the same with Obama.
@ConfusedSandy, UTThen at least be as consistent yourself (as
you want the republicans to be) and stop white washing the current President
failings.========= I accept your challenge...I'm mad that Obama -- shutdown GW Bush and the other
Republicans "Patriot Act" NSA spy-ring, that the ACA [Obamacare]
didn't offer a Single Payer option! Is not alternative energy
"Green" enough.Hasn't really crackdown on WallStreet, Banks,
and the Oil Companies.Got us out of Afghanistan by now, Has raised
taxes on Millionaires and Billionaires, but has on everyone else, I
could go on, but you get the picture. He's more Moderate, Center-Left,
than the so-called "worst President EVER" hysterical lunatics say
I'll call myself the true consistent person on these blogs, I've
criticized the President and GWB pretty much on a regular basis. But
I'm still concerned about this letter writer. He still needs to take that
drive in the mountain and enjoy the beauty of nature. I'm watching the
British Open on TV right now, it's soothing...
RE: Atlas Smashed "Then, something changed in January of 2009. Anyone want
to take a guess what?"Now don't tell me, don't tell
me. Oh, I got it - the economies of the western nations collapsed. And you
blame Obama for it. He must have been really fast to tank the economy in a
matter of days. You Obama haters are just too much.
