"If you’re a high school football fan, the Deseret News is your source over the next month to prepare you for the 2013 season, which kicks off on Friday, Aug. 22."

Can't wait for the 2013 season to get started! Oh wait. Well, we are in Utah.

The Miners have really put together a powerful program. When I went to Bingham the program was awful, even with kids for Riverton, Herriman, and Bluffdale. Not any more.

Go Miners, Take State!

I can't wait for the Pine View at Desert Hills game this year!!!!! Should be another classic.

I get that Alta doesn't usually lose 6 games, but they were pretty good. Every team they lost to was either a 4A finalist (East, Timpview) or a 5A semi-finalist (Bingham, Lone Peak, Brighton, Jordan). On top of that they were the only team in the state to give Bingham a game, and nearly beat them.
They also play a big-time opponent, Bellevue up in Washington who has won 4 straight state championships and 54 games in a row.
I love that there are teams in the state who are willing to play anyone anywhere. Should be a fun season.

I think the days of Alta dominance are over at least for a few years. They will compete and you are correct that they did play a killer schedule, but when you split the studentbody in half (opening of Corner Canyon last year) that really hurts. I think that keeps them from being as dominant. They will be competitive in some years, but that will be interspersed with down years..

Bellevue is an absolute Beast. If Alta can hang with them, it will speak volumes. Bellevue has played, and has beaten, top teams from California. That's saying something. Last years team was absolutely dominating.

I think people will be surprised at how well Alta does even with the split. Corner got one great class, this years seniors, but that was it. The best younger classes are at Alta and they've had two kids move in from Trinity in Texas plus another lineman from Tennessee so even with the split don't overlook the Hawks.
Problem is the region is so tough that a star prospect at Bingham can't even start as a junior, Brighton may have just improved but they were already great. Jordan will be in a toss up with the other two and I wouldn't be surprised to see them in the finals.
Alta has played several top 10 programs nationally. Don Bosco Prep, Grant, and now Bellevue.

GO Miners!! What a program Coach Peck has built, I was there when Coach Peck went from Cyprus to Bingham and like SpokaneUte said, they were awful, I remember parents and fans shouting out from the stands at Coach Lambourne and booing. Now they are a nationally respected program. I honestly hope Alta can get back to where they were years ago, I love the Alta Bingham Black and Blue rivalry. Miner Pride! Cannot wait for Aug. 22nd!
