Sounds great though I think most teachers are doing their best in trying
circumstances. Now here's the rub, are we going to pay teachers like they
do in Finland? Are we going to stop haranguing teachers with standardized tests
and data-driven policies and let teachers do what they think will bring forth
quality, creative learning in their students? Are we going to start giving
teachers more respect and more power to control the curriculum and pedagogy,
along with the evaluation of their students? Unless the proper answers to these
questions come about attracting and retaining the type of teachers the author of
this article wants isn't going to happen.
A better country means better leaders!In education, most teachers
are very good, and do want the best for students.We need improved
leadership with better decision making.
