I wish politicians who are complaining about a broken immigration system would
tell us exactly what's broken about it.Actually, what's
broken is immigration law enforcement. We have thousands of border patrol
agents who are paid hundreds of millions to secure the border and stop illegal
immigration. But all they after intercepting illegals is drive them to the
nearest motel, pay for their room and board, change diapers, and heat baby
bottles. That ain't securing our borders. We'd fair far
better as a nation if we'd fire the border patrol and let illegal
immigrants pay their own way since they'll never be deported anyway. Why
are we mollycoddling these illegals? If people from abroad wish to
come to the US to live, all they need do is go to a US embassy in their country,
get the necessary forms, fill them out, and get in line. There are millions of
hopefuls who do just that. It unconscionable to let illegals bust into the line
ahead of those who adhere to our immigration laws and do it right.
I do not understand why these articles are so slanted and continually push for
amnesty. I do not believe that Rep Bishop, Sen. Chaftez, and Sen Lee agree with
amnesty. According to a NumbersUSA poll they are rated: Sen Mike Lee is A+ and
Rep Rob Bishop is a B. And, unfortunately, Sen Hatch is a C-.(I know Hatch
agrees with amnesty). We cannot continue to sustain our country with so many
illegals infiltrating our borders with no action from ICE to stop this. We have
enough laws already on the books so let's start enforcing the laws, return
to a viable number of immigrants before we think about granting amnesty. Look at
all the citizens we should be caring for that are out of work like construction
workers who have lost their jobs to illegals because they will work for less,
under the table, no benefits, etc. And one thing I would like to ask Congress is
why are the Mexican military shooting inside the USA borders of Arizona on our
This GOP congress won't get anything done. They're the most
dysfunctional, ineffective congress in history. Vote them out!
WHY would anyone waste time and energy on passing new immigration legislation
when this President does not follow the laws that we have?
Several years back, after the Reagan Administration pushed an immigration plan
through Congress which resulted in the amnesty of 2,000,000 illegals, I went
into a Utah Lowe's store to buy some tools for my business.A
young Hispanic man was sitting on a ladder. I walked over to him to ask for
some help and got into a conversation with him. He said that he was one of the
many Mexicans who were allowed US citizenship through President Reagan's
great efforts. I asked him if he appreciated that and he said that, of course,
he did. I then said, well, you are probably a Republican, then, right? He said
"No I am not." And he went on to say that he was a registered democrat
and that he'd never vote for a Republican.I said,
"Thanks," turned and walked away, without saying another word.I do not know what a meaningful immigration is, but there has to be a solution
other than to accept anybody who comes to the border and wants in, and these
people who are encouraging such legislation which would encourage this without
first securing our borders. Doesn't make good sense.
@ManInTheMiddleD&C 42: 79, 84-86 84 And if a man or
woman shall rob, he or she shall be delivered up unto the law of the land.
85 And if he or she shall steal, he or she shall be delivered up unto the law
of the land. 86 And if he or she shall lie, he or she shall be delivered
up unto the law of the land. The LDS church tells it's members
to come here legally. Gods laws do not change. The promise of amnesty has
brought thousands of children here by themselves, and cause thousands of
families to be separated. Enforcing the laws and returning the entire family is
the only option that upholds Gods laws, and shows compassion by teaching wrong
from right. Isn't it up to the family to decide if they will become
separated from one another? When my relatives came here, the two sisters left
behind the rest of their families, it was there choice.
SLars,Dieter Uchtdorf and the leaders of the Mormon church disagree with
you. Their stance is clear - we must legalize."We follow Jesus
Christ by loving our neighbors. The meaning of neighbor; includes all of
God's children, in all places, at all times. We recognize an
ever-present need to strengthen families. Families are meant to be together.
Forced separation of working parents from their children weakens families and
I will not support nor donate to any of the listed politicians or others who
support amnesty in this "reform" bill. They do not represent my
thoughts on this matter at all.We need to gain complete and actual
control of our borders first and foremost. We need to identify all
illegal aliens, including overstays of visas and those who have not lived up to
the conditions of their visas. We need to shorten the path to
citizenship for those in line and who have made good faith efforts to follow the
rules. We have massive unemployment of our citizens already. We do
not need more unskilled, uneducated, semi-literate English speaking labor to
undercut our own citizen's as they struggle to make a living in their own
country. I do think that those who are in favor of this amnesty
could show their humanity and magnanimity by sponsoring an illegal immigrant or
family while they complete the process for a green card or visa. The sponsor is
responsible for all costs and the taxpayers are held harmless. If
they are so keen on illegal aliens living in the US, then they sign up to be a
@ManInTheMiddleThere is nothing Christian in encouraging people to
lie, steal and covet, a Christian would teach the legal (honest) path. Only by
stopping the law breaking, the surge of children, and the identify theft, do we
show true love. It's top bad the Churches did not complain when
the laws were not being enforced. Nor did they hold their members who hired
people here illegally responsible.
There is nothing at all wrong with out immigration laws. What is
broken is the politically motivated lack of enforcement of those laws.Pass new laws, and without any change in enforcement, those too will be
colossal failures with rampant illegal immigration. (To be ready to take
advantage of the next amnesty deal that will inevitably be passed.)If we want to co immigration reform, it must begin with securing the border,
and no other changes until the border is proven to be secure! Then we can talk
about a process to get people here illegally placed at the back of the line to
eventually get legal status.Anything less is abandonment of the rule
of law and proof that not a single person need follow any laws at all in our
country in the future. No amnesty under any name!
Probably one of the first times I've agreed with Real Maverick.Problem is dems are every bit as complicit as Repubs. on illegal immigration.
NOT ALL amnesty supporters are Repubs. NOT ALL repubs. are supporting lawless
behavior.BOTH Bush and Obama have had the tools at their disposal to
enforce immigration laws. They BOTH chose not to - although for somewhat
different reasons. Its' a little unsettling to me that, somehow,
we have the money and troops to try to protect a foreign countries' borders
- but not enough to enforce our own!
When Wayne Niederhauser ran for state senate back in 2006 against Jim Bennett
and Bryson Garbett, he sent out an ad claiming he opposed illegal immigration.
Nice to see him NOT keeping his promise (which he broke almost immediately after
winning the election). Why would anyone trust these people? Wayne
Niederhauser, Orrin Hatch, Marco Rubio, Eric Cantor, Jeff Flake, John McCain,
and so many others all ran for office claiming to oppose amnesty. Then they
changed their tune. Why trust them?
Follow the money folks!Who has supported amnesty since the
beginning?Who gave us amnesty?Who promised that amnesty
was the silver bullet to illegal immigration?Reagan and the repubs
and their greedy big business campaign contributors. Even Bush wanted to push
amnesty down our throats.Amnesty will be the final death knell into
the American middle-class. The few remaining jobs will be given the cheaper
illegal labor. Big corp, agriculture, and construction love this. The rich and the repubs know that the American dream for many middle-class
workers is on life support. They are looking to pull the plug. It's time we pull the plug on these amnesty loving officials. It's
time to pull the it on big business overriding the will of the American people.
I ask conservatives and liberals to join with me. Money isn't free speech.
Let's pass an amendment banning all campaign contributors. Let's force
our reps to represent us. Let's severely punish all businesses that break
our laws and lets ship the illegals out. If you want to come here, please, come!
But do it the legal way.Who wants amnesty? Follow the money.
I applaud the advancement of immigration reform. A pathway to
citizenship/legalization is the only Christian solution.
Immigration is just another example of Washington DC (and now Capitol Hill SLC)
thinking they know better than the citizens what is good for them. We need more
Mike Lees, Jason Chavitz, and Mia Love's to turn things around.
I wish someone would tell me what's "broken" about our immigration
system - besides the fact that BOTH political parties don't enforce the
existing law much at all. There are MANY unfortunate results of no
immigration enforcement.1. the "middle-class" is being depressed
more and more since they are the ones who WILL get stuck with the bills due to
having 30 million unskilled, low-wage workers in the United States.2. our
OWN citizens need jobs.3. Canada and Great Britain are seeing the
mistakes they made with letting in untold numbers of immigrants - and have begun
"shutting down the spigot". France is on the same track, they've
determined that they simply can't put up with the numbers of immigrants and
even have become concerned that they are losing much of their national
"identity" as the result of decades of unchecked immigration.4
similar to "JDL" above, some employers choose to OBEY the law, why
should they be penalized by having to compete in the same industries that pay
substandard wages?Have we become so lawless a country that
we've decided to actually REWARD illegal immigrant trespassers'
Translation?Amnesty so politicians can jockey to buy their future
votes. Why do you think obama essentially has an open door from the
south? He WANTS as many illegals as possible because they all fit into the
democrat demographic. Generally poor and in need of some type of government
assistance. This will all work for the politicians but as usual there
is nothing in this that will help regular law-abiding citizens.By
the way, I was Canadian and spent years legally immigrating to this country to
finally get my citizenship after many years of paperwork, long lines, and
fees.Guess I should have take our Presidents lead and just broken
the law and saved myself all the trouble.
No "immigration reform" until the border is secure. And that means a
fence along the entire border equal to the San Diego sector fence, which has
proven very effective. Also, our immigration laws should be as least as tough
as Mexico's are.
You don't reward illegal behavior. It just gives people the impression they
can continue breaking the law. E-verify can now be passed by local
cities, along with controlling rent. I've managed databases for years,
it's safe. It only matches names, the Social security database matches
numbers. It's time for a renaissance in honesty among our
business community. They are hurting a lot of people with their actions.
No "reform" in the world will help until AFTER our nation has absolute
control of its own border.
“The current system is broken, and the United States cannot afford to wait
any longer to fix it,”How would anyone know if our immigration
system is broken. They have not used it in years.Do we have so many jobs
that we need to import labor? Will unskilled illegal immigrants help our
own unskilled labor force by competing with them for the few jobs they qualify
for?I know of engineers who are being required to train foreign
workers to replace them. How would you like that? Please explain how
more unskilled illegal immigrants are going to help America.(crickets...)
Jake,, I respectfully disagree.. the system is broke because we look the other
way,, fail to enforce the existing laws, provide safe haven.. We now are being
overrun, a mass exodus is in progress from Mexico and Central America.. The
amnesty of the Regan years should have taught us a lesson.. it did not.. The
influx of illegals across our southern borders, the 10 of thousands young men of
late, supports the theory of a never ending trend our country cannot
support..We need a crackdown,,not a amnesty or a feel good
immigration reform.. We need to send a signal,, not offer a free pass. We need
to severely punish anyone found hiring these people, directly, indirectly, that
would be the best reform and signal we could send south..Otherwise,,
we should release every American incarcerated for Fraud, Identity theft, Tax
evasion or other crimes associated with illegal immigration.
In 1995, I was paying my construction crews on average 10.00 - 11.00 per hour
for general labor. I was paying my foremen 13.00-16.00 per hour and I was even
able to offer heath insurance. Back then it was at least a living wage. By 1998
my direct competitors were paying illegal help 6.00 - 8.00 per hour. I could not
compete. I tried to keep things going following all the rules and I got my
behind kicked. The immigration reform that allows a path to
citizenship has already come at the expense of my own citizenship. I am not
alone, in fact there are millions of us who have paid and are paying a very
heavy price. The State leaders and Jake Garn who sent this letter,
will soon be paying the same price. It is inevitable.
My biggest complaint is the E-Verify system. This is a massive, privately-owned
database that would need to have ID information for any working adult in the
nation in order to be effective. That is a huge target for hackers and a huge
risk for a public company selling information to outside groups. I work in the
software industry. E-verify is ripe for problems. Look at other large databases
- the no-fly list and the federal health care databases come to mind.
According to a new poll by Pulse Opinion Research, 2 out of every 3 Americans
oppose the Obama-Boehner immigration plan that would give work permits to
illegal aliens before enforcement measures are fully put in place. The most popular option was to remove the ability of illegal aliens to have
U.S. jobs and benefits, and to encourage them to return to their home
countries. Our state leaders need to represent the voters, not the
business community. I will remember that as I go to vote today.
We can't afford another amnesty. The last two did nothing to stop people
from coming here illegally, dying in the desert, separating their families,
stealing ids and jobs, social security numbers and committing perjury, nor did
they stop business from hiring people here illegally (felony). We cannot afford
another one. I am sad some of our state leaders want more of the
same, on a much larger scale.
