$44 is high for making running into a social event. DN should consider getting a few sponsors to try to bring the cost down or consider a family or group discount (or maybe a cap).

Why don't you plan your own "run" with your father and family? You could run the Jordan Parkway or some other scenic trail. It would be a great time for all and you'd be building the memories with your kids that your father built with you. Best of all, it would be free.

Have a good holiday.

Andrea,
What about the cost of golfing... or the cost of skiing? They both cost more than $45 (and yet... people do them).

I would say if cost is the issue... organize a family fun-run and do it with your extended family or neighbors, in your own neighborhood. Then you save the $45 AND the travel expense as well.

If you have to travel to SLC... the $45 is only a drop in the bucket after all.

I sometimes travel to California or Florida to visit Mickey Mouse and his friends. And it costs a LOT more than $45. But I think it's worth it (or I wouldn't do it).

I agree, Andrea.
