Pac 12 Utes

It just doesn't get old. The thought of playing Stanford, Oregon, USC, UCLA, ASU, Michigan, and all in one season!

Wow

I love being in the Pac 12!

Whitingham is under some pressure this year.

I hope Utah does well this year. It's been really embarrassing for all of us.

I don't see why we are putting soo much pressure on Kyle. Did anyone in their right mind think we were going to walz into the Pac-12 and dominate the other programs? We have had good and great teams. We played good and great teams in the past. Most of them were just good with a few great. It's different being in a conference where most teams are great and you get to play more conference games. No padding the schedule.

Of course we would like to go undefeated every year forever. But, it's going to take time. We definitely have had better players and teams than in years past. Give them some more time.

@Rico,

Who said he wasn't under pressure?

I certainly didn't.

I think Utah will do well this year(7-5) and go to a fantastic bowl game with that record.

GO UTES!

Just curious.

Where will Utah's 7 wins come from?

Seriously, list them for me.

Almost all your games against "beatable" opponents are on the road. You will have to pull an upset over either Oregon or USC at home. And you don't have BYU on the schedule for an automatic win.

Weren't you just predicting a conference championship appearance last year?

Pac 12 Pride

@Fight On - asking where the 7 wins come from is silly. Do you cheer for an NBA team or an MLB team? How about you tell me how many games your favorite MLB team will win and where each of those wins come from. In all likelihood Utah will get a few games they aren't "supposed to" and maybe vice versa, so saying which ones are wins and which are losses is just silly. It doesn't prove anything more than stating a belief that the overall quality of the team can get 7 wins.

You tell me how many games your MLB team will win and which games they will win and which they will lose, and then we'll have Chris tell us which games Utah will win.

Liberal Ted

I predict Utah will win every game that they have more points than their opponents when the time runs out.

Just looking at spring practice there will be two players that rush for 3,000+ yards and 40 touch downs, 1 quarterback will be injured after an undefeated 5 game start, the other teams in the pac will suffer from the stomach flu and Utah goes on to win the conference.

Who knows what really will happen 4 months from now. Who knows Kyle could get a job offer from the NFL, figuring why sit here with this fan base that keeps threatening his job over a few rough years. Quickly forgetting the decade of great games and achievement.

The team is progressing and recruiting better. The question is how do we recruit better talent? How many kids really dream of coming to play in Utah as opposed to USC or Stanford?

Chris B,

Just what "fantastic" bowl game is a 7-5 record going to get the Utes?

dk2, Whatever bowl Utah goes to, it will be better than byu's bowl. The best big time byu could come up with was a game against an AAC opponent? Puts things into perspective of what the power 5 conferences think of byu

@Liberal Ted

YES! Thank You. I agree with everything you have said regarding Whittingham. I get tired of listening to fellow Utah fans bag on him. TCU posted a worse record than Utah and in a weaker conference but no one is talking about firing Patterson. Quite frankly, it's a little embarassing having to listen to such ridiculous banter from fans. My only question: Once Whittingham is fired who replaces him? And do people really expect this coach to stick around after having the type of success that is demanded?

Whittingham has proved his worth and loyalty time and time again ( turning down many better coaching offers ). I don't think it's too much to ask the same from the fans. He at least deserves to finish out his contract.

Pac12PrideStickerOnMyCar, nice apples and oranges comparison (NCAAF vs NBA vs MLB). Fight On asked a legitimate question ... course, CB either won't provide an answer at all or she'll come up with an equally comical one. I will give her credit though - the past 3 years she's predicted the Rose Bowl for the u. At least this year she's a lot closer to the reality end of the spectrum, though likely still quite a ways off.

My question is: will KW get the going away gifts as he visits each out of town stadium during the season? Or does NCAA rules require that all gifts to pink slip coaches be held until after the season is over?

"Whatever bowl Utah goes to, it will be better than byu's bowl."

utah doesn't go to bowls but let's say christina is correct and they do win 7 games and go to a bowl, do you know which one that probably means? The new mexico bowl, that's right that is the pac12's bowl tie in for its mediocre 7 win type teams, the new mexico bowl.

Going to albuqurque in december for a bowl game will not "be better than BYU's bowl" which is located in Miami, Florida. You utah "fans" really need to try to put in some actual thought before just blabbing something that ridiculous. lol

I agree with Liberal Ted completely. Most of those who are critical don't have a clue. Most of them have never coached beyond a rec league if they have even done that. I love to see all of our Utah schools do well and right now we have quality people at all of these institutions. Complaining fans are very unrealistic in their expectations. Get a life.

@ Liberal Ted "Did anyone in their right mind think we were going to walz into the Pac-12 and dominate the other programs?"

You make a good point Ted, but I think a large portion of Utah fans believed the Utes would have competed better based on their W-L record against PAC schools. From 2003 - 2010 Utah went 7-3 against the PAC. However, what most of us came to realize is that playing 1-2 PAC teams per year is very different than playing 9 per year.

@Duckhunter "You utah "fans" really need to try to put in some actual thought before just blabbing something that ridiculous."

I agree, it's kind of like your statement a few days ago that Utah & BYU played the same number of cupcakes in 2013. I'm sure you have come to realize how baseless that assertion was, or are you still standing by it?

Pac 12 Pride,

"Asking where the 7 wins come from is silly."

First of all, cute screen name Chris! And that was a slightly feeble attempt at avoiding a very legitimate question. MLB and NBA teams play over 100 games in a season, Utah plays 12.

I know 7 wins sounds like a nice number cause it's the only way you will see a bowl game. But look at your schedule and tell me which seven games on it are likely wins for the Utes.
I can only see 4-
Fresno, ISU, WSU, and Colorado are all "Should wins" for Utah.
Utah is a much stronger team at home, so I do see a potential upset over Arizona.
Your other home games include Oregon and USC (Losses).

So your whole 7-5 record pretty much rides on the hope that Utah will upset some great conference opponents on the road, which Utah has yet to do as a PAC-12 member.

I would LOVE to hear a rebuttal from you!

You're spot on.

Fight On,

The fact that the MLB has significantly more games doesn't change the concept. If you're saying someone predicting a certain number of wins should be able to do it in one sport, they should be able to do it in another, even if it would take longer. The concept doesn't change the longer the season. In both sports there are upsets going both ways. But at the end of the day predictions on a team can be pretty accurate even if someone misses some upsets one way and makes up for it the other way.

If I predicted 7 wins and told you which ones and Utah did go 7-5, but I picked a few wrong they would win and a few wrong they would lose, you'd say my predictions were no good and I got lucky(if you're honest and admit it). My point is that the concept is the same in baseball.

Fight On!
St George, Utah

Chris, you are hysterical!

You are still avoiding any attempt at realistically analyzing Utah's football schedule and supporting your 7-5 prediction.
Why?
Could it be because you are tired of making extremely optimistic predictions and then being ridiculed on these boards come seasons end?
I have given you my predictions and even presented information to back up my predictions, Then I asked for you to do the same, and you responded with an off based comment of how predicting the final record of Utah's 2014 season is the same concept as predicting a final record of an MLB team. Even if they were the same concept, what does it have to do with you backing up your prediction of 7-5 with a bowl game appearance?

You predicted 7-5
Now where oh where will those 7 wins come from?
