@Chris B

They're all scared to lose to 'big time' BYU.

Challenge - I'm so happy you ute "fans" have been at home the last few years bowl season.

No wonder the trolls are all worked up over this.

-------------

I understand that the thought of anyone getting worked up over anything midmajor BYU does is satisfying to you, even though it's entirely fictional.

Why would any Utah fan care in the least about BYU signing yet another terribly poor bowl contract with another inferior conference?

If anyone's getting riled, it's the blue boys. Relegated to yet another lower tier bowl game once they lose game number one, which will likely happen in the season's first game.

"Interesting that byu couldn't get into the Big 12 or Pac 12 by default."
I have it on good sources that BYU would have preceded utah with an invite to the PAC 12 and Big 12 had they agreed to sunday play. utah was just the waste water left over after the gold fell out of the pan.

@ Tomahawk Red

I'll give no guarantee that the utes will be left out of the postseason so I agree with you on that. (although I'm guessing they'll miss out again.) However barring some ddisaster for BYU, it is as close to a guarantee as one can get in the preseason that BYU will be at least bowl eligible with the schedule they have. Probably in the first 8-9 games.

And yet, here you are. So, are you not a Utah fan or are you saying that this deal is not for a "terribly poor" bowl contract? You can't have it both ways.

Logic says that your comment, "I understand that the thought of anyone getting worked up over anything midmajor BYU does is satisfying to you, even though it's entirely fictional." is completely off base as you yourself are among the first 20 people to get worked up enough to comment on this story. Hypocrist at its finest. Good luck with your prediction of a loss for BYU in game 1 against UCONN. If anything, week 2 against Texas makes sense. I can also foresee utah starting undefeated. 2-0 before dropping six in a row.

with jealousy about BYU's new Miami Beach Bowl contract.

Can't U just feel the jealousy oozing out of the hill?

This is a awesome bowl! I cannot believe how prestigious this bowl game is and the national recognition the teams that are "invited" to play receive. Cougar fans should be proud and should flaunt this to their lesser peers on the hill because that is what you learned on Sunday, to be humble and meek. Turning the other cheek to ignorance is weak and unacceptable, showing pride is what you need to do in responding to an attack. Rise and Shout Cougars.

GO UTES!!

Hilarious! BYU fans essentially respond with "Cool, it will be a nice bowl if we can't get something better."

Ute fans essentially respond with "It's not as good as losing in the PAC-12 and staying home."

We'll take your word for that.

So am I ChrisB, but it will come. When was the last bowl game utah went to? When was the last bowl game utah went to against a 'respectable' powerhouse team? 2008 was a LONG time ago. A VERY long time ago.

1984 was a lot longer than that.

Good move BYU. The only numbers that count are the seats in the stadium and the eyes watching the big screen!

Just keep getting warm weather bowls. That will be the recruiting pitch! Look, I know that weather in provo ain't like miami, but we get to play there in december!!

I really feel that we are starting to see the end of the great athletic years for BYU. Slowly over the years, the programs have been scaled down with little view of where the program needs to go. I would say that within the next 10 years, these once great programs will be Div. II level, with an eventual disolution of the athletic program all together. I hope not, but it has happened at other church schools and BYU-Provo appears to be headed that direction.

I went to the Citrus Bowl and it was a blast with a big half time show...something the big bowls have eliminated.

Although I hate the idea of only bowl eligibility to get this bowl against any eligible AAC team (not TV fun), I love Miami in December and I certainly plan on going!

Funny how Chris B. slams the Big 12 for not being able to find 2 "worthy teams" to go from 10 to 12 schools in the conference. Remember that the PAC 10 wanted to be the PAC 16 and they invited Colorado, then 5 of the Big 12 teams. The Big 12 told them to go pound salt and the PAC needed one more to have 12 so they looked around and invited Utah. The Utes were #12 of 12, which is about where they finish each year. The first year they actually had a greased schedule to get to the inaugural PAC 12 championship bowl game, all the stars lined up, and they promptly lost at home with Norm Chow as OC to the worst road team in America, Colorado.

Funny how the PAC 12 expanded by seeking doormats; WSU, Arizona, and lately Cal have been very happy to have someone take over the bottom spots. Those in the top echelon of the conference have fans asking "Why did we take Utah...they bring nothing to the table."

Isn't it interesting that this discussion is even necessary on an article about BYU? But the Ute partisans are so obsessed with BYU they can't avoid commenting. Too funny!!

Tan Man, what did Utah win in 2008 other than the game? How many people even remember (outside of Salt Lake City) who they played? In 1984 a champion was crowned that people still remember to this day. Say what you want, that's a bigger slice of a bigger pie. Period.

Yet pundit's refer to the Utah win over Alabama more than any BYU bowl game since. BYU vs Tulsa from a past bowl is just lighting up the talk shows isn't it? In addition, this seems to be the only play that the 84' title sham gets any props.

I would much rather play in a West Coast bowl game between Christmas and New Years, than to be relegated to a brand new pre-Christmas, low paying (under $500,000 per team) "filler" bowl. BYU has spent it's history "building" bowl games (aka, Fiesta, Holiday, Las Vegas)only to see them yanked away by the BIG 12 and PAC 12. It's a shame that with the so-called "partnership" that BYU has with ESPN, they can't get into one of the larger multi-million dollar plus games. I loved the proximity of the Las Vegas Bowl and I understand that it now (thanks in part to the sell-outs generated by BYU) generates $1,000,000 per team. BYU desperately needs to become a member of a major conference such as the PAC 12 or BIG 12 or risk becoming the NAVY of the West.
