I'm just surprised that powerhouse byu and ESPN couldn't get a bowl game against any power conference?

Why wouldn't the pac 12 want a big time bowl game against big time byu?
Why wouldn't the big 12(only 10 teams because no one else is worthy) want a big time bowl game against big time byu?
Why wouldn't the SEC want a big time bowl game against big time byu?
Why wouldn't the Big 10 want a big time bowl game against big time byu?
Why wouldn't the ACC want a big time bowl game against big time byu?

I don't have to say much - will just refer you all to what was said about BYU in the article. BYU will definitely be bowl eligible and I look forward to this bowl game barring an unexpected invite to the playoffs.

Sweet!! Lets go have a great year, beat the teams that you have scheduled and hope for the best. Do your part and let the pieces fall where they may. Then go have fun in beautiful Florida. BYU has set a standard of always going bowling, no matter the schedule, and it wont end soon. Cant wait for the season to start!

I'm just not surprised that BYU is going bowling, yet again, while a local team (from a "power conference") will be home for the holidays yet again. And I'm not surprised that the first few posts are from an anti-BYU person, as this seems to be an obsession, commenting on all things BYU. It's perennial.

Go COUGARS!!

PS: The way to national recognition isn't through Tucson, Pullman, Boulder or Salt Lake City. Sorry, it just isn't.

Inking a deal with the conference formerly called the "Big East" (for those of you who don't know who the AAC is) is not half bad, considering the difficulties of scheduling as an independent. BYU will likely go bowling again this year in a great location against a quality opponent while their rival stays home for the couch potato bowl once again. No wonder the trolls are all worked up over this. Go Cougs!

I'll take it...and continue to hope for stronger bowl matches in the future.

I love watching the cougars in their annual bowl game.

Great! Love the location, should be fun to go to the inaugural Beach Bowl! I'm actually hoping we can't go because we get invited to a better bowl.

Go Cougars and bring on the season!

Also hoping Utah finally gets to a bowl this year, go Utes! Can't leave out USU, go Aggies and win a bowl again!

If Taysom stays healthy, the Cougars will go undefeated.

In the event BYU is not invited to a more prestigious bowl game...

In the event BYU stubs their toe and looses a few games (6 or less)...

The inaugural Miami Beach Bowl is not a bad assignment...

With BYU's ability to travel well fully documented...

34,000 seats should easily be filled.

Congratulations to the AD Dept., Coaching and support staff as well as the players.

@Pac 12,

Interesting that byu couldn't get into the Big 12 or Pac 12 by default.

In fact, the Big 12 would rather be called the Big 12 even though they only have 10 teams and can't find an acceptable 11th or 12th team.

So am I ChrisB, but it will come. When was the last bowl game utah went to? When was the last bowl game utah went to against a 'respectable' powerhouse team? 2008 was a LONG time ago. A VERY long time ago.

Not excited about a mediocre bowl with a mediocre Conference. That doesn't get us much to keep beating small teams. We have to consistently beat good teams from big conferences to get any recognition. Glad we're going bowling and I will watch the game, but I was hoping for more.

One would think.......

1) That if your big time basketball team, from a big time conference, but lost to a lower tier WCC team, in a step sister type post season tournament, one would think they would have enough sense to simply keep their mouth shut, and quit yapping.
2) That if your big time PAC 12 football team, who hasn't gone bowling for a few years, and the near future isn't looking much brighter either, who's coach is on the hot seat, and appears to be destined for mediocrity in that national power conference, well, one would think this would humble them enough to zip it up until things improved.
3) That if a person had enough time on their hands to sit at their computer all day trolling anything related to BYU, and have this over the top deep-seeded need to be the first person to post on said sports team, one would think that this person would some day get a job, and make something of their life.

just a thought!

OK and TX-Thanks for saying no!

lol I concede. Yes, Utah earned its invitation by default. But, stop changing the subject Mr. B. This is a story about the cougars! The cougars are going to a bowl and the utes don't go bowling anymore.

Pretty much as good as Orange Bowl.

Groan...Maybe I can take a vacation over Christmas and get out of Miami. A word of warning to the BYU football team and its fans-stay away from the beaches in Miami, as they are definitely not honor code approved.

I'm not sure what Utah fans are making fun of? There are some very decent opponents in the AAC conference. Cincy, UCF, Louisville, and SMU are all solid programs. The AAC does not have an automatic bid to a "BCS" Bowl game any longer, so we could very well be slotted against a ranked AAC champion or the #2 due to the likelihood that they will be left out of the Playoffs as well.

I also just looked over the 2014-2015 Bowl schedule and the Cotton, Fiesta, and Chik-fil-A bowls are all open to at Large teams, so if BYU does clean up it's mediocre schedule and finished ranked in the top 12, we may play in a BCS game after all.

Very exciting news for BYU! Looks like I'll be making reservations soon. Although I might want to wait as well. Have a feeling something special is in store for the Cougars this season...

There was a time when BYU had to rely on a conference to negotiate bowl deals and only one team from the entire conference was contractually guaranteed a bowl invitation.

Now, as an Independent, and with the World Wide Leader as a partner, BYU has the national clout to negotiate its own bowl deals.

Despite the whiny jealousy of our friends up north, this is something that would be impossible for their regional, conference bottom-feeding program to do.

Wow. I'm impressed. Would you mind telling us all how exactly you already know this when the season is still five months away?

If ever there was an incident of pure speculation masquerading as fact, it was yours buddy.
