So, in the West Side Story movie, Tony goes to the fight with the intention of stopping the fight.

AT the fight, the leaders of the sharks and the jets are both stabbed to death.

Tony is eventually gunned down in jealous revenge.

What if Tony had simply informed the police about the fight and the police were there to do the job of stopping the fight?

Are not every single person who came to see the fight in Stansbury accomplices to the eventual murder? Why not arrest all who came to see the fight? Each of them is individually responsible for this very likely outcome.

They went to a fight and didn't expect something violent to happen. Really. A tragedy that never should have happened.

Sincere sympathy to Jesse's family. This is so sad a senseless. To those kids who stood and watched this? Realize, that the smallest bit of help from you might have kept this from happening. It is not life threatening or weak to seek to stop violence. Rather than being a gawking spectator, be a man--better, be a human being.

This is such a sad thing for so many people - even those of us who read it. Not only have two families lost their precious children, but many have lost their friends. Instead of watching a fight, why didn't someone get help from trusted leaders? My sympathies are certainly with both families and all those who lacked the understanding of other ways to resolve problems.

We have to remember these our teenagers who were watching. To arrest every teenager who witnessed a fight , well, our jails would be overridden. Our jails are overcrowded as it is. When I was young I was witness to many of these. however, it all came out Ok. Our bodies our fragile and it doesn't"t take much to pass from this world. teenagers often act on impulses and they don't think. the next thing you know someone is dead. These teenagers will learn something just because they had to witness such a as tardily thing.

finally, my heart goes out to the family who lost their son.

I know it. I Live it. I Love it.

"The fight was not gang-related, but was a gathering of two different groups of friends who were there to watch a fight, the sheriff said."

I'm sorry, but that makes it gang related. Just because they haven't given themselves a name means nothing. The fact that they organized themselves for an event of violence- that makes it a gang event in my book.
