The officiating usually isn't at full strength in Spring games. That's why the offense typically does so well. Its amazing how much time the quarterback has to find a receiver when its OK for the offensive line to hold defenders.

I've been very impressed with what I see from Coach Christensen. There is a reason his offenses were getting 500+ yards a game and scoring 40 points a game when he was at Missouri.

I like the depth at most positions, we are the deepest and most talented we've ever been in the history of the program.

But with that, we're also playing one of the hardest schedules in the entire nation, again, so we're going against the most talented teams we've faced in the history of our program too.

But I'll take this over playing WAC nobodies like we used to.

Go UTES!
Cant wait for fall.

The defense was in a basic package, so of course the offense shines. That's like feeling good about the offense after last year's non-conference games. Then we hit conference play and real defenses...

Not only that, but our top defensive players were held out. All that offensive production came against a downgraded D. That'll be fine vs. Idaho St, but we need to see better play from our offense vs. Fresno St, and substantially better play vs. Michigan.

Go Utes!

Just a few observations from the spring game. Booker was outstanding. We have a solid one-two punch with him and Poole. McCormick also looked good. At QB, they all had good moments. But the one that stood out to me was Cox. This guy has incredible talent and instincts. Hopefully he, along with Manning, will get a chance to get playing time this year.

"There is a reason his offenses were getting 500+ yards a game and scoring 40 points a game when he was at Missouri."

Yeah but was it because the refs weren't calling holding? No, Toto, we're no longer in Missouri.

"I like the depth at most positions, we are the deepest and most talented we've ever been in the history of the program."

Then why is Cox auditioning for a DB position by setting up his tackles with interceptions? This is certainly a new twist on being a "two way" player.

"But with that, we're also playing one of the hardest schedules ....But I'll take this over playing WAC nobodies like we used to."

Weren't the Utes one of those "WAC nobodies?" Unfortunately, you need to manage your expectations better. I don't see being PAC nobodies as real progress, except for the $$ benefits which are unearned income.

Not much to make of Spring ball. I just wish we didn't have 2 major injuries. Hopefully Paul and Hale get back soon.

The fall is going to be very interesting with Kendall Thompson in the mix.

We do have the deepest stable of QBs that we have likely ever had, now we just need to get someone to rise to the top.

Old but not....

There jealousy is literally oozing out. Utah clearly has a much brighter future than BYU. It's not hard to see. Utah if the line holds up will win 8 games. I feel like we are better at almost every position compared to last year. I can't wait for our first game.

I'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish with your post but Happy Easter, Old But Not Stupid.

TanMan_101. 8 wins seriously. With the Utes schedule I used to predict a 2-10 record for next season. But being an eternal optimist, I see them going 4-8 at best. 8 wins is way too much to ask from the men in red. I am not whacking on them, but with their current coaching staff, and their difficult schedule, 4 wins will be a major accomplishment.

GoRed....I agree! Cox and Booker have natural talent, it's easy to see when they're playing. If they each don't get a shot at big minutes I will be certain that Whit plays only friends and buddies....not the best players available! Wilson is hurt and playing like it, afraid to make a mistake, looks like a baby giraffe on ice. Manning looked good, Cox is instinctual and very quick and agile. Why did Thompson get any reps at all? He's NOT able to play until 2015!Too many QB's(unlike the recent years), not enough practice reps to go around and yet Whit has time to look at a guy who won't play this coming year no matter what!
It's stuff like that that makes me doubt Whit. The Utes program has gone down since he took over(except 2008 when the team was loaded with Meyers seniors). Just look at the team stats, especially offense.
Just like with Wynn, Wilson is/will get the lions share of practice reps, leaving the backups unprepared again.
