DotGone... When you have a child there is no getting away entirely. This
isn't because wasn't careful enough when leaving. She married into a
family with two dangerous people. Her husband killed their children and himself.
Her Father In Law also has been convicted and done time.
Interesting conundrum. In order to get the money, the Powell family (which has
long asserted that Josh Powell did not kill Susan Powell) now have to claim that
he did. In order to deny the Powell claim and/or get the money, the Cox family
(which has long asserted that Josh Powell killed Susan Powell) now has to claim
that she survived him (being missing is not enough). My thought --
neither family should get the money. The money should go to a worthy charity
that has no tie to either family and no name association with either family.
Neither of the families should take anything from it.
Josh Powell's mother has maintained all along that her son was innocent of
murder and that Susan ran off with some man. But now that it comes down to a
$2.5 million estate she has decided that Susan is dead. Her changes of opinion
are so self serving it is disgusting. The Powell family, except for Jennifer
Graves, are a bunch of foul people. Watc the video of an interview that Josh
Powell did with the police where he acts like a pompous cold monster. They are
asking him questions that any normal husband would want to answer and he just
turns his nose up and his head away. He is not a grieving or innocent man. I
saw a video where the Cox's were doing a rally in the town where the
Powells lived asking for information and Josh and his dad pull up in a van with
the boys and start yelling and turning a peaceful rally into a circus in front
of the children who are seeing pictures of their dead mother. The Powells do
not deserve a penny of this money. Cox should use the money to find Susan and
help other victims.
To grandmagreat - I agree totally with you.
@My2Cents"The public and media and police perpetrated are the
heinous criminals that drove a father out of tough love to defend his children
from public hate."Is that you call murdering your own children?
Whatever your opinions on Josh's connection to Susan's disappearance
are, it's kind of moot point with he did to his children. The guy was
murderer. It's just a question now of how many members of his family he
killed? 2 or 3?
Of course he killed his wife. Everybody knows that. Proving it without her body
is another matter.
Wow! What some people will go through for the sake of money. The Powell's
should gracefully go away. They should let the Cox family alone. When you read
through it seems to me that since no body or actual proof is found, Susan is
'legally' a missing person and her father is now 'legally'
the conservator. In spite of the likelihood that that Josh did kill Susan. And
especially if he did kill her, they should walk away and stop causing pain for
the Cox family.
It makes one wonder the type of family life that was in the Powell house. It
produced a number of totally despicable people. The grandfather, now in jail,
must be held responsible for the whole mess. This reminds us again of the
failings of the police to take action that might have saved the lives of the two
little boys and put Josh behind bars for life.
What heartbreak news in this case. The heartache of their loss is enough for
the Cox Family. They should not have to be put through this.
There has to be a special place in the fiery furnace for people like these.
This is possibly off topic, but how did Josh Powell have resources to take care
of himself when he left Utah and his job? Obviously he had money to rent a
house, travel and maintain himself. There are so many missing pieces in the
puzzle. I think the Coxes should receive any compensation available. Their
expenses in trying to find truth have to be extraordinary. dotGone, I agree with
@ jenkersI agree. The Susan, Charlie, Braden playground, or a home for
battered women and children .... the possibilities are endless.@
KYou're right. Our tax dollars will pay for the social worker's
therapy (sad) but who pays for the house that he blew up?
How about the insurance companies don't pay out at all? No one should
benefit from this travesty. Not the Cox's and certainly not the
Powell's. If Josh would have killed just himself but not his sons, then
I'd be in favor of his sons benefitting. Since they lost their lives also,
New York Life should keep the money.
Beyond heartbreaking for the Cox family. They are such good people and so
steadfast. My heart and prayers go out to them. Awful to have a lovely daughter
marry into evil. Again, I have to say, ladies, when you realize you've
married into evil, leave without discussing it with him. Hesitating puts you and
your children in danger.
Ah, it's a marvelous thing to contemplate a fine man like Josh Powell (and
now his even finer family) standing up for the sanctity of marriage ... marriage
between one man and one woman, until death do them part.
Josh Powell and his father are the only victims this entire campaign has given
to history. We can thank government and the criminal law enforcmeent
department in WVC now proven to have been less than honest and more than
criminal in their actions for years prior to their attacks and harassment of
Josh Powell and his children. The public and media and police perpetrated are
the heinous criminals that drove a father out of tough love to defend his
children from public hate. Now some family step in and out of greed
want to persecute a father in abstention for a crime that police nor evidence
can prove he committed. Even if the family does win or prove any guilt the state
will step in and confiscate all the money as retribution payment for gross
neglegence cost trying to entrap a suspect. The case is still open in the city
government and that makes all the assets of Susan Powell property of the state
to impound it all indefinitely. Property rooms never retire nor do they have any
regard for any owners until Mayors say owners can buy property back from the
I really hope the Coxes prevail in this. They are such victims. It would at
least be something they could get out of this horrible tragedy. The Powell
family are just perpetuating this.
@Mid West MomThat would be assuming insurance companies have ethics.
The Cox Family should receive any money's paid out by the insurance company
The money should go to Susan's family. Their lives have been completely
turned upside down. I'm certain that the years of searching for their
daughter and battling her murderer for custody of their grandchildren, who he
also murdered, also took a financial toll on their family.
The only way to win in this is to agree on both sides that the money should be
donated to a really worthy cause -- one to prevent domestic violence or the
abuse of children. Kiss the money goodbye and honor the memory of those two
little boys by doing something good.
The Powell family is one travesty after another. The money should go to
preventing this from happening again, not to people who will multiply the
Maybe Josh outsmarted himself on this one.
A man can't take out a policy and then kill people who are covered and you
or your beneficiaries get the money. At the very least any policy for the boys
or himself would not If the insurance gives out any cash it should
be to the owner of the home that blew up and for any therapy the social worker
who brought the boys may need after what he did.
I agree with all the posters above...
If the Powells truly believe that Josh killed his wife Susan, then how can any
Powell benefit from murder? I would think that the insurance company would have
something to say about that.
I have a lot of admirration for the Cox family and Jennifer Graves. The Powell
family seems to be going lower than low. What dispicable behavior. None of them
should benefit financially, ever from this tragedy initiated by Josh.
Except for Jennifer, the entire Powell family's behavior is despicable.
They should be ashamed for trying to profit from Josh Powell's heinous
crimes. Please give the money to the Coxes. It won't bring their precious
family back, but if anyone is going to get the money, it should go to them.
