Got to love the DN editorial board. Bush invaded the country to get Bin Laden and destroy the Taliban. His plans and poor decision making did neither. Seems he got side tracked on the greatest tradegy and decision ever made by a President of the U.S. and invaded a country that was of no threat to the Western world. If, and it's a big if, things work out well in Afghanistan it won't be because of George Bush, it will be largely do to the courage and determination of Afghans themselves and the resolve of President Obama to clean up yet another mess left by Bush.

So the ends DO justify the means, is that it? I'm sorry, but I couldn't disagree more that the US invasion of Afghanistan might be justifiable for any reason. Democratic reforms may be successful there, but I feel certain they won't take root. They will remain superficial because the country lacks so many of the necessary building blocks upon which democracy rests. Afghanistan is a house of cards.

What's gonna happen is that the Taliban will take over the country within two years of all our troops being pulled out. What a waste of time, money and most importantly, lives.

Yes. Let's blame Obama for Bush's mess. We blame Obama for everything Bush did. Heaven forbid anyone actually make Bush accountable for his disastrous regime.
