Introducing a Constitutional amendment to control campaign finances will be the job of the next generation.

What a bolloxed bunch this Conservatively based SCOTUS is. First they create "people" named Corporations that are the only "people" in the country that are LEGALLY and MONETARILY UNACCOUNTABLE. (Corporations are formed to prevent monetary accountability to its participants.) Where in the Constitution did our forefathers foresee that entire entities should be unaccountable monetarily and legally for their actions? Now the way is paved for more bribery and chicanery to reinvent our government to be awash with money? We're looking more and more like the USSR every SCOTUS session. And the CONservatives have the "Nerve" to blame it on Obama?

Oh Dear!
This is just awful!

I can't believe this is happening!

The Gadianton's have been given yet another IN to our political process.

Yet another Sad day for America!

Hooray for the Supreme Court. They finally got one right.

What "speech" is the First Amendment intended to protect if not political speech? And the right of individuals to spend money in support of a candidate is about as purely political as speech can get.

I say let people donate as much as they want to political candidates or causes. Just make sure there are strict disclosure requirements so the public knows who is backing a particular candidate.

Under the system that limits donations, a rich candidate can spend as much of his/her money on his own race as he/she wants. That puts poor candidates who have to go begging for donations of a couple thousand dollars at a time at an extreme disadvantage. That is part of the reason the US Senate and House are increasingly made up of nobody but the rich. And that's not a healthy situation.

@regis
wait, how is money speech? I realize we currently have a capitalist economic system but how did money become speech?

Just vote for the candidate that spends less or who is targeted the most.

Is there any doubt?

In light of todays selling America to the highest bidder decision as well as the Citizens United ruling which initiated the selling frenzy, every effort should be made to audit every member of the SCOTUS continually to verify exactly how they, their families, friends, favorite charities have been compensated by special interests...

Then simply connect the dots.

The SCOTUS today verified the Conservative mantra that a citizens vote does not matter...

unless, of course, you are a Las Vegas gaming billionaire or one of his billionaire cronies.

Money is money. Speech is speech. A business is a business. A church is a church. The Supreme Court is confused.

Money donated to Demos from Unions, Planned Parenthood or any other left wing organization is the only free speech allowed, right? But heaven help us if any money is donated to the GOP! That's the real problem!

By conservative logic, you should have 1 vote for each dollar your worth, cause corps are people, money is speech, businesses can belong to a religion, why not grant personhood to money, the very foundation of all conservative action.
If Capitalism is the savior and only hope for America, than dollars are it's devotees and measure a mans worth.

How is money speech?

When money is used to pay for a billboard, that's free speech.

When money is used to pay for an ad on TV or radio or other media, that's free speech.

When money is used to pay for campaign mailers or lawn signs, that's free speech.

For a candidate to get out his message, he needs money. Money and free speech go hand in hand in political campaigns.

Pretty simple.

No, Thid, we need limits on campaign spending from ALL sources.

I find it ironic that anytime the SCOTUS makes a ruling that puts Conservatives on an equal ground with Liberals, the liberals whine about how evil this is.

Tell us liberals, why is it bad to let a person give to as many canidates as he wants? As has been stated, you have the Unions, and the massive liberal social organizations, and the media, why can't conservatives balance that out with donations from private citizens?

To "LDS Liberal" you keep complaining about the Gadiantons, yet your ilk keeps supporting the Gadiantons through your ideas of giving government more power. Don't you know that by taking away power from the government you will be able to defeat the Gadiantons? But then again I don't think you want them defeated because they are the ones pushing for your socialist utopia.

Really not a partisan deal.

If power corrupts, and money corrupts, getting the 2 together will surely produce justice?
