I grew up in Salt Lake and personally knew several LDS general authorities. Most lived in middle to upper middle class homes. No one lived in a mansion. I think it's still the same. It's important that the messenger live according to the message. Posh mansions send the wrong message.

Why does a single man need 4500 square feet of living space? My parents didn't have that much space with 6 kids.

The other question is why didn't they add the area for holding receptions and catered events to their church building? Wouln't that benefit the people who are paying for its construction the most?
