If there wasn't credible enough evidence in the first place, then why did
this even happen? The girl failedThe prosecutor failedThe
man's wife fortunately came through, though it would have been easier to
give up.We are all tested, but whether it's in this life or the
next, the truth will always surface and no one can escape it. We can live
honestly, or in shame and humiliation. As much as I don't like an "I
told you so" attitude... I can't help but wonder if it would help those
who gave up on this man to see how foolish it is to presume guilt.Innocent until proven guilty. Anyone who doesn't believe that doctrine
doesn't belong in a free country. Really, they don't. I don't
support barbarism. We ought to support justice, fairness, respect, and care for
everyone, accused, criminal, and victim alike. When you get punched, it's
hard to keep your fist down. But if you don't, you're just as guilty.
If you do, you've learned what we're here to learn. Right vs wrong.
As reprehensible as the girl's behavior was, I think the real question is
how did prosecutor Cristina Ortega let such a baseless case get this far? Mr.
Green has been living a nightmare for more than a year. How is it
that such a heavy financial burden can be placed on a defendant who, in reality
was treated as if he were guilty until he was able to prove his innocence? Our
criminal justice system is upside down. Reform is very much in order.
I noted that others believe the girl should be incarcerated for lying and
destroying the reputation of her coach. Yes, she should be for at least 2 years.
What possessed her to charge him with sexual abuse? Attention? If there are no
consequences for her actions then justice was not served, and sets a precedent
that anyone can accuse another of heinous crimes even if they are falsely
accused and get away with it without consequences when the truth comes out. She
should be arrested for lying.
483bzacOur culture is Puritan, but not in the way you think. The ideas that "All men are potential sexual predators" and
"If a girl/woman says something, then it must be true" are products of
modern feminism, not Puritanism -- although both philosophies share the same
suspicion of male sexuality, albeit for different reasons.
May Green find peace again. Hopefully he becomes vocal about so many that are
falsely accused because of the Puritan culture we live in.
Like the Tawana Brawley case in New York 36 years ago, I think there is pretty
good evidence for a defamation case. This is another very good
example of why people should ALWAYS remember the presumption of innocence maxim
and why it is vitally important to our system of justice.
