These articles about Utah seem to be pouring salt in the wound. I think we get
it. Utah can't win on the road, Utah can't finish close games,
Utah's crowning achievement year in and year out is to beat BYU. Let's
move on to something else. I hear Utah has a terrific women's gymnastics
But Krystkowiak said We’ve got to improve in a lot of areas to get
better.’’Maybe that should include scheduling and
playing games on the road in the preseason. I'd put the failure of this
team on the Athletic Director and the Coach for not preparing the team to play
on the road. I understand padding your schedule with cupcakes at home but it
comes back to bite you hard. 15 of 16 preseason games all at home. Hardly
preparation to learn to play in a hostile environment. Two road wins all season
Utah seems to get up for BYU in football and basketball, and not very many other
teams. I wish BYU cared about beating Utah the way Utah cared about beating
Spokaloo, but don't you see that when they plays BYU, that IS their Bowl
game! And when they play Bball, they can pretend they are playing in the big
boys tourny because BYU goes there so often. That is Y they "get up" for
those games. BYU has bigger fish to fry and a reputation to keep and earn.
Again, respect is earned in the long run. BYU has it and the u does not. The way
the records in both sports read of recent years just shows where the two teams
are headed. Very opposite directions!
@Dave Matthews:Quite often an early easy schedule is beneficial:* builds momentum* gives time for a team to gel* gives a
winning attitudeThe utes were much improved this year.
Saint Marys is just better.
I really had no emotional connection to this game, and I as watched it, it
looked the teams didn't either. Emotionally, they looked like two of the
lower level NBA teams playing out the string in a season that had lost it's
meaning weeks ago.BTW, they play in a high school size gym and still had
plenty of "fans" dressed as empty seats.
@ EddieUtah plays plenty of tournament teams each season; teams that
actually win when they get there too. Like it or not, BYU's reputation is
tournament futility. I like their chances of keeping that reputation.
@eddie and spookgluNon ute here...but you look foolish making fun of
Utah when they continually seem to dominate BYU on the courT and football field.
Why don't you beat them first...until then take a break.
I hope there is now more respect for the caliber of teams that BYU play in the
WCC. This is not a "Mickey Mouse" league and BYU fought hard to beat St.
Mary's twice this year. There are other respectable and difficult leagues
in the NCAA besides the PAC12. Sorry loss for the Utes. No pumping of fists on
So after Ute fans have been saying BYU plays in a weak conference, they get
bounced out of the NIT by one of the teams in that so called "weak"
Conference. Poetic Justice. And most likely BYU will be knocked out today by a
very good Pac12 Oregon team. So each hated foe will be knocked out by the others
conference member. Irony, I believe is an appropriate word for this....Heres to hoping I am wrong and BYU pulls off the upset!
Tough loss. I watched this and I thought there was no way the utes could lose,
they totally dominated for the first 30 minutes. Tough one. As for the
scheduling, it is hard to say what is better for which team. Sometimes a
nonconference schedule like the Utes had can build confidence and a winning
attitude. Who knows, if they scheduled tougher, maybe they would have lost more
later. It is hard to say. Overall though, a good year for the Utes and they
certainly seem to be heading in the right direction.
@slcftball"but you look foolish making fun of Utah when they
continually seem to dominate BYU on the courT and football field."Uh....utah just beat BYU "on the courT" for the first time after 7
straight losses and only the second time in the last 14 games. Yes utah is
enjoying a nice run over BYU in football but winning for the first time in about
half a decade in basketball is hardly "domination", in fact trying to
claim that it is makes you look foolish.
Seems the only posts are from BYU fans. Where are those Ute fans that were
talking smack about the lowly WCC Conference? Chris B are you in mourning? You
can count on this, Chris B will be posting smack about the Pac-10+2 if the Ducks
beat the Cougars.
slcftballSalt Lake City, UTWell said. Usually people
don't have a lot of comments about teams that they didn't beat. That
doesn't stop Cougar fan though because every loss by the Cougars is a
And I just noticed that Oregon State, another member of the "Conference of
Champions," lost in the first round of the CBI at home to something called a
"Radford," which apparently participates in basketball in the "Big
South Conference." Where did it finish the season? Tied for fourth (with
four other schools) in conference standings. Who was first and second? Coastal
Carolina, High Point and Virginia Military. I did not make any of this up."Conference of Champions" . . some of you keep saying that. I do
not think it means what you think it means.
CougarSunDevil, MurrayMike, et al,Nobody likes to have salt rubbed
in an open wound and it is a poor sport who revels in doing so.
@CougarSunDevilThese articles about Utah seem to be pouring salt in
the wound. I think we get it. Utah can't win on the road, Utah can't
finish close games, Utah's crowning achievement year in and year out is to
beat BYU. ------------Yes, if you ignore Stanford in
football and UCLA in basketball. But hey whatever makes you feel special.
Slcfball:I'm glad duck said it, but I'll repeat it; Utah has NOT
dominated BYU on the court, unless in uteville you call losing 12 of 14
domination. BYU has utterly OWNED Utah on the hardwood, far more than Utah fball
has ever owned BYU. Who looks foolish? If Utah can beat BYU at the MC (LOL), and
have 12 of 14 victories against the Cougs maybe you can say something
(won't happen). Who does the parenthesis and LOLs remind everyone of? Since
he's disappeared I thought I would impersonate him so y'all
didn't miss him
@spokaloo: "Utah seems to get up for BYU in football and
basketball, and not very many other teams. I wish BYU cared about beating Utah
the way Utah cared about beating BYU."Utah gets up for all their
games as does BYU. What a ridiculous statement. These college KIDS get up for
every game on their schedules, especially against a team 50 miles away playing
in a major conference.Kyle Van Noy referred to the Utah vs. BYU
football game as BYU's Super Bowl. As an independent, BYU has to win all
their games to qualify for the NCAA football playoffs or in the past, a BCS Bowl
game.Utah has dominated BYU in football winning 9 of the last 12 and
14 of the last 21. BYU has dominated the basketball series winning 12 of the
last 14. Should I make a ridiculous statementIf the game is more
important to one team over the other, it's now more important for the
independent football team.
to UtesBy5,It is not true that teams get up for all games. I played
college football and teams definitely get more up for certain teams. When I
played at byu, we did not get up for Utah, in fact it was a downer game. Utah
was not challenging for conference championships and we did not care. The game
was a lose/lose for us. If we win, we never won by a large enough margin and if
we lose, we should have won. We got up for teams in the race for the conference
championship. In my experience, the byu/Utah game has never been as important
(at least in the last 40 years or so) as it is to the utes. Most of my
teammates were from out of state and didn't care about Utah at all. Part
of why it means more to the Utes now is that Whit played at BYU so I think it
means more to him personally. BYU cares, just not as much.
Of course the utes wanna sweep this latest NIT loss to a lowly in their opinions
WCC team. That way they can continue to spin the Stanford and Byu fluke wins all
