But certainly not a tough place for the mighty utes of the world championship pac.

This is called a "none and done" for Utah

Let the excuses begin. Come on, man the floor's the same size. But u will lose!

Sorenson nailed it. Utes couldn't hold up in a small gym. My wife said it sounded like an indoor swimming pool.

Chris B? Welcome to the WCC!

Disgusted with how we played tonight. We deserve better than this. We deserve a team that is winning NCAA tournament games and 3 years is long enough to win an NIT game. Coach K better get at least to the dance next year or we'll find someone who will. Embarassing loss.

That was "Matthew Delavadova's number being retired" after the BYU victory!

Dela was a great player. I just wish BYU could have beat him at BYU instead of him making that very long and improbable shot.

Maybe Utah will appreciate the road schedule of BYU a bit more after this.

The arena didn't appear to have much impact on the team to me. The Utes played pretty well for 33 minutes in there before compounding mistakes finally caught up to them as SMC got on a hot streak to end the game.

I just can't wait for the excuses to start rolling in. Welcome to our world Utes! Small gyms filled with screaming fans is better than large centers with so few people that u can hear echo's. The fourth best WCC team is pretty good aye? They ate ur lunch and then took ur money. I love my WCC membership and going to the big dance!

Yeh, Ken from Sandy…you deserve better? all the strutting and bragging and comparisons with WCC…it all comes back to bite you...

Ken,
Do you have some say in who the coach at the u is?

@Ken

"Fans of these small schools like to believe they aren't much different or that the quality of play isn't that great. Truth is, the gap is huge."

I guess the gap must not be that huge after all. Ute fans certainly like to believe they are much more different and prestigious. Truth is, this is what can happen when a team from a smaller insignificant conference plays a "cupcake" team from the more "significant" Pac 12.

Of course, I don't expect my Weber State Wildcats to beat Arizona. But we try to show good sportsmanship, respect our opponent, and refrain from talking the kind of trash that always has a way of coming back to bite you.

Our program is a legacy but the refs forgot about our legacy and that's not fair so that's why we lost.

Utah's loss to St. Mary's only confirms BYU's claims that 1) if BYU and Utah played at the Marriot Center, BYU would have won, 2) BYU is the best team in the state of Utah, and 3) Size of gyms doesn't matter.

@Ken,

Why don't you try out for the team?

Let's face it, the PAC 12 made the utes look better than they are.

Maybe the U of U would be better served playing more than one non-conference road game, which they lost to Boise State. Maybe they can summon enough courage to play in Ogden or Logan? Coach K has them turning in the right direction, but some want a new captain at the helm? They took a big step this year, now they need to learn how to win on the road, but you can't do that if you don't play on the road in non-conference.

I can see how they needed to gain confidence and just get some W's this year, but now they need to step up the schedule.

This isn't the 80s or 90s. Players don't go to a Kansas, or Kentucky, or Indiana, and sit on the bench for two years before they get playing time. With television the way it is, players go where they can get playing time. Good players know they can go to a Davidson or Drexell and still have a chance at the NBA. Yes, teams like Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, Arizona, etc, are usually better teams; but the gap has closed over the years.

On any given night, any team can win. (Well, unless it's a 16 against a 1 seed. But it will happen eventually, right?)

And by the way? I heard it on the radio the other day: Most teams win 60-70% of their home games. Even the bad teams.

Now we know how the Utes would fare in the WCC!!! I am very glad I was not in the Utah locker room after this game!!! Tough loss Utes and this was a team that BYU swept!!! How does it feel to get beat by an inferior team in a "high school gym"?

Go Cougs beat the Ducks!!!

We don't "know" how the U would fair in the WCC. I am an avid cougar, but am not going to pile on the U after this loss. We know St. Mary's is a good team. Sports are mostly about match ups. Utah beat BYU at home. BYU beat St. Mary's at home and on the road. What does this mean? Nothing. Look at the entire resume to decide who is better. After all, Virginia is a #1 that got drubbed in preconference play but then went on an amazing run.
