Furry 1993....for you five libs who need your own representative.....Move to Detroit, we don't want Utah to follow that path?

Owens is a man of principle and integrity? Then if he is a liberal Democrat like his dad, then why doesn't he own it like a real man? All this political sidestepping is nothing more than lies and deceit. Lets hope when starts his campaign "walking for Utah" he heads up I-80 to Evanston and keeps going!

@Flashback "Marxist, I can't wait until she does [repeal Medicare]." You will get open rebellion. Mayor Love likely doesn't like to talk about this stuff bluntly, but she needs to be pinned down.

Why is it the second (or third) generation who can't break out and accomplish something on their own, fall back on daddy's accomplishments, success and use his NAME and fame to promote themselves? Come on Owens, do something for yourself… at least professional athletes following their daddies have to prove they too can make it… it isn't based solely on the name.. We haven't even heard of Doug until now… Mia has done it on her own, so who should we trust can get the job done, Doug, through his daddy or Mia through the people and her hard work?

I'm conservative and usually vote Republican. Doug Owens is a man of intelligence and integrity and he has my vote.

@TRUTH

So that's your solution for anyone who doesn't toe the conservative "Utah values' line - MOVE. Really?

Can I use that when you complain about the President, Congress, or judicial ruling you don't like. Just move somewhere else.

One of the most heartening movements on the American political scene is the No Labels/Problem Solvers movement co-chaired by Jon Huntsman and Democratic Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia. It seeks to define goals that have broad support across the political spectrum, and to build a broad consensus on means for achieving the goals, without regard to party or ideological labels, thereby overcoming the strident polarization that has bee characteristic of American politics for some time now.

That Mr. Owens (like my Republican congressman from Bucks County, PA) has embraced that movement is heartening. May Utahans have the wisdom to send him to Washington.

I guess a man "of intelligence, compassion, vision and integrity" needs to shield his identity by saying he is "a Democrat without labels,". The fact is a Democrat represents empowering people like Pelosi and Obama.

@Furry1993

Representative Government is NOT about representing minority voices - you logic would suggest we should have every fringe interest represented. Utah does not vote for Democrat because Democrats don't represent Utah values.

I sure hope you didn't vote for Mitt Romney - or you might be accused of being a hypocrite...

@Rufio

I asked this question before, but no one has answered it. What exactly are "Utah values?" Those of us who don't deserve to have our voices heard would like to know.

@kiddsport apparently you don't understand the difference between the House and the Senate. Voting for Mia Love does not make any difference at all to Harry Reid. I want the Dems to lose control of the Senate just as much as you, do but electing extremists to the House doesn't help with that.

I'm still waiting for Mia Love to come clean about her little amnesia incident- the one where she claimed she never told reporters esp. Lee Benson what she told them about her past, and claimed it was all a Matheson conspiracy.

Re: ". . . repeal Medicare]. You will get open rebellion."

Actually, open rebellion is what we have now. The President and his gang are in open rebellion against the Constitution, their oaths of office, and American rule of law. The President's admitted refusals to enforce the law -- including his "legacy" health care debacle -- is an open admission of his rebellion. He has "a pen and a phone," so what need does he have of a Constitution?

The inevitable repeal of nearly all of Obamacare is what is necessary to end this regime's open rebellion.

I am unaware of the alleged accomplishments of said Mr. Owens, other than a stay at home dad while mom finished medical school, and successfully passing the bar exam. So his dad was as congressman, so were a lot of people's dads, and moms.

From the article it appears that Mr. Owens is an out of work attorney looking for a job with benefits.

I didn't vote for dad, have heard, so far, nothing remarkable or of note about the son, so as it plays now, I don't think I'll vote for the son.

Maybe he can get someone to highlight his accomplishment in the government arena, or how he is capable to represent his district. I am presuming he does live in the district he is announcing for.

Why is it that the states run by liberals are falling apart and the states run by conservatives are dong very well? Do you think there could be any connection?

I think that all of the liberals who say that they don't like Mia Love are racists. There can't be any other reason why they wouldn't like a canidate from a minority in Utah.

Doug Owens and Mia Love want to represent the voters:
Each of you are not in this race to make money right?
Someone get this little survey to them to sign exactly what they believe is true.

I am a public official under oath and must have an opinion about the use of money or promises to influence any public official in the discharge of his or her public or legal duties.
I agree that corporate political contributions are not lawful and violate state and federal bribery statutes because of "corporate mission laws" that protect share holders funds from fraud/embezzlement; funds must be spent on profit, potential profit or humanitarian expenditures only. So intent cannot be freedom of speech but seeking influence for profit.

@ Utah Businessman, surely you jest. Have you seen the numbers on a whole range of issues in the South? We really don't want to be like that. Seems like CA, OR and WA are doing great. MD, NY, CT, MA are doing great. In fact, overall, the country is now doing better than it was than during the last administration. So, you can spout rhetoric, but reality says otherwise.

Utah appears to prefer male candidates.
Mia Love and Becky Lockhart don't fit the bill.
Todays's comments are 200+ favoring men in Priesthood position of the LDS Church.
We are in Utah, people!

@Strider:

Doug Owens is not an out-of-work attorney. He took a leave of absence from his law firm, Holland & Hart, to run for Congress. You didn't vote for his father, you don't want to vote for him. I respect that. But do you really think disparaging Mr. Owens is honorable?
