100% gain in traffic in 2013 is not a great accomplishment, but probably a disappointment for FrontRunner. The Provo-SLC section opened in December 2012, so 2013 had an easy comp. Comparing the 100% ridership growth to nationwide growth is more than misleading.

But, if UTA ridership is really surging, we should see service levels increase, an no need to hike prices. Don't bet on it.

Not convenient if you work after 5pm and live in the suburbs.
Not convenient if you need to commute West to East in SL County.
Not convenient if you work a night shift.

We traded a near-excellent bus system for a mediocre railroad.

When gas prices exceed what the poor and middle class can or will pay to drive an individual car to work this will continue to happen. Gas companies could have made more money leaving prices lower. People would travel more on vacations (not take stay cations) People would be driving motor homes and touring the US and visiting relatives more. But having lived close to BART in California, I enjoyed not having to drive to San Francisco every day to work. I would bring a good book, kick back and read, maybe a short cat nap!

I am very happy to see the rail system in Utah has proven successful. The conservatives fought the light rail before it opened and claimed it would be a huge waste of money. They have been proven so very wrong. As the cities in Utah grow so should the public transportation.

On the one hand, I enjoy making use of public transportation as a matter of efficiency and environmental cleanliness. I especially miss everything being within biking distance in Japan, and the extensive use of trains available there.

On the other, if "convervatives fought it" so much, then there's probably one or more downsides I'm unaware of. I'm not a logistical expert.

It doubled in the last year. How about giving us numbers instead of percentages. Did it increase from 200 to 400 in a year?
