Our legislators know, apparently, that it is important for them to micro-manage education.

Perhaps we need a new set of legislators.

I think it's interesting that they pass a bill so that districts can't take money from the Federal Government without going through the USOE first yet at the same time propose bills that bypass the district and send money directly to schools where they don't have the expertise. What we need to remember is that the school districts is the most local of all elected officials and have direct accountability to the people. So to bypass them or to punish them because the state doesn't like what they do just doesn't make sense. Ultimately it's our children who are hurt.

And if the state legislature would fund education properly then perhaps districts wouldn't have to go to the Feds or private grants so often and for so much money!

Utah Dem---I didn't know there were two of us in this state.
