Is it not time that YBU beat The PAC 12 Utes at something? Based on the comments from cougie supporters it sounds like they all agree with my post. They're definitely excited about one baseball game extremely early in the season.

    20-3?

Did the Cougs miss an extra point or something?

    Go Cougs!

    MyPerspective,
Yes I was being serious! Most of BYU's opponents had winning records last year and went to or went to and won their bowl games!!! So how does that make BYU's schedule a cupcake schedule? Utah chose to jump to the PAC12 where they are in over their head in football and basketball but improving! Byu chose Indy in football and WCC in basketball, where they have continued to have successful seasons! Both BYU and Utah are much better off then being in the MWC, Utah just took a much larger leap and is taking longer to climb up to where they want to be in the PAC12 standings!!! I will keep asking until I get an answer, Why do you care about a team that is no longer your rival? Why do I not see fans from the other PAC12 schools commenting on Utah articles especially CU your new rival? Go Cougs!!! Rise Up!!!

4601, the comments about the rain were facetiously referring to BYU fans', players' and media's excuses about the football game at UVA last season, such as:

"Virginia does get a lot more rain than Utah does. Consequently, the players from that area definitely have more experience playing in the rain."

"Virginia beat BYU, 19-16. But this game belonged to Mother Nature."

“I’m not trying to make excuses, because we didn’t make plays, but by the fourth quarter, the balls we were throwing were completely waterlogged.”

    @KH

Stay on topic, BYU 20, utes 3. It rained on both teams, but maybe the utes are water soluble.

    Spokane Ute,
"Utah beat BYU head to head in both football and basketball but finished with worse overall records but all we heard from the haters is how head to head results are all that counts in who is the better team..."

You can't be serious. You realize, do you not, that Utah is in the Pac-12 and not playing the same cupcake schedule byu plays?

    BYU 20 Utah 3

Just like BYU football, Ute baseball can't play in the rain.

    Spokane,
Utah was better on a given night but is not the better team overall. So they get a win or two every decade. That's the least we can do for the little brother. For whatever reason BYU lets their guard down when it comes to the utes. However, if you want to go back and look at the last 13 games you will see a very different story.

I would love to see the utes play BYU in volleyball. If you thought baseball beat down was bad volleyball would be much worse.

My opinion only - I don't believe you can read too much into this one game. The Y soundly trounced Utah last night and made a great showing. For whatever reason, Utah was terrible. However, this Utah team just 10 days ago beat #10 ranked (and last year college world series entrant) Indiana and followed that up the next morning with a win over a top 25 ranked Nebraska team. Obviously you need to have some level of talent to do that. Utah has played every game this season with 3 starters out with injury - no excuse intended, just a statement of fact. To pull off the wins I mentioned above took a lot of heart and fight. I don't think the battle between these two teams ended with this one game. I hope and expect to see a much better game the next time they meet.

KH - The great thing about baseball is that there are three more games on tap between these two teams this year. I think by year-end we will know which team is the best.

Every team in any sport is entitled to a "bad" day. Yesterday, the first two innings by the Utes were quite frankly the worst baseball I have seen in 30+ years of actively participating in the sport. 18 runs in two innings??? However, Tanner Banks is a much better pitcher than he showed yesterday and I suspect the next three games will be much more competitive.

    Spokane Ute,
Utah beat BYU head to head in both football and basketball but finished with worse overall records but all we heard from the haters is how head to head results are all that counts in who is the better team hence my comment that BYU could lose all the rest of their baseball games and still be called the better of the two teams according to Ute logic!!! Good luck to both teams the rest of the way and hope both make it to the college world series!!!

    Go Cougs!!! Rise Up!!!

For the last 4 years in football, and this year in basketball, we've been told by byu fans that the team that loses the head to head match-up is really the better team. I guess Utah's baseball team is a lot better than byu's this year.

Stellar game for the cougs, pitiful game for the Utes.

Keeping things in perspective, just like Coach Littlewood pointed out, the Utes won't have another blowout game like that all year.

At the end of the season my senior year at Pine View, we mercy-ruled Snow Canyon 21-1 (should have been 21-0, but a routine out at first base was dropped, and they scored off the error). We thought we would take state, especially after winning the first playoff game by beating the team who had been ranked #1 all season long, 11-3. The next two games, out of nowhere our pitchers couldn't pitch, and our hitters all went stone cold. We lost those games, 11-1, and 15-5. Just goes to show that in baseball, anybody can have an amazing night and score large, and the very same team can go out and be held scoreless. Baseball is just a wacky sport like that.

Here's to much success for both teams this season.

Kudos to 2000 fans showing up for a baseball game on March 4 when it was pretty chilly - supporting a baseball team that only won 1 of their first 7 or so games. I was there for the whooping BYU applied, but I did feel a tad sorry for the 1st three Utah pitchers, who got no help from their infield. Taking nothing away from the BYU hitters, because they hit the ball better than they have hit all year, routine ground balls were not fielded and mental errors as to where to throw the ball were made. Makes it really tough on a pitcher.

Great job BYU. I think you have shown that you are much better than the results of that first road trip to Texas!

"When did Utah lose all of there games after beating BYU?"

Doesn't matter; Ute fans have been claiming for years that records and rankings are MEANINGLESS; that the head-to-head results prove which team is better regardless of what happens the rest of the season.

  • Spokane Ute Spokane, WA

    Football:
Sagarin Rankings: Utah #34, BYU #35, Utah wins head to head game
    Basketball:
Sagarin Rankings: Utah #34, BYU #35, Utah wins head to head game
    Basebll:
No Rankings outside of top 25 (that I can find); neither ranked, BYU wins head to head game.
Utah is better in Basketball and Football, BYU is better in Baseball. Pretty simple. The Sagarin rankings have always been gospel to BYU fans. Well, atleat until this year.
Oh well, BYU slaughtered Utah in baseball; I give them credit. No doubt, they are currently the better team.
See how easy that is to do?

Well...well...Utah is the better team...SOS says so. It's indisputable and undeniable. Head to head doesn't matter it's all about the people who are paid to figure out who is better. The Utes are the best team in the state, no question about it.

Someone forgot to tell byu that the Deseret Dual was decided in mid-January. LOL!!

Congrats on the first varsity sports win over Utah since September. These comments make for some good comic relief. The Utes will probably never have that good of a baseball team, aside from the occasional team with players like CJ Cron. BYU is usually pretty decent, and I have a lot of respect for the Littlewood family. Good luck to them this year.

Yea, it was the rain...and the refs. The Utes just don't get up for byu even though it's our super bowl of baseball. We didn't play to our full potential, we made mistakes and we beat ourselves. Our sagarin is higher so that proves we're the better team. The outcome would of been different if we played on our home field. Scoreboard means nothing. I just hope byu keeps winning so we can count this as a good loss.

A final score of 20 to 3? For real? I wonder if it's because the Utes were neither excited nor inspired to play a former rival they now consider just a mid major opponent perhaps? When the excitement is no longer there for them, I wonder why they still schedule the Cougs? We are not a rival to them anymore so the excitement is no longer there apparently. After all, they've moved on to bigger and better things as part of the prestigious Pac 12 conference of champions!

Ok, I maybe wrong...that they just had a very very bad and off day! I hope that was it!
