A job playing football, even in the CFL, is better than being a working stiff. And it pays allot better!
    Good luck John.

Another class act getting a well earned chance to succeed. This man is a student of the game and prepares well when given the chance. For his size he is one of the best qbs we've seen at BYU in many years and hopefully that translates to the CFL. Here's wishing you the best.

I agree with the comment above that John Beck got really hosed when he was thrown into the game far, far too early in his first year at Miami. Not good.

Not sure what happened (asn in "why") he didn't perform solidly when he was able to start in Washington. Did he have no talent on offense to help him? That's what happened to him with the Dolphins.

Regrardless, Beck to Harline is still the best college football play EVER!!! I was there along with my (then) 10 yr old son.

    Good luck, John!

The Ute naysayer makes it sound like the Utes have filled the NFL with QBs.

Kudos to Alex Smith. I cheered for him with the 49ers and Chiefs.

But how many QBs from BYU vs Utah have played in the NFL over the last three decades, how many have won Superbowls, and how many have many MVPs and Heisman Trophy's? I suggest U pick a different argument. Sure the CFL is not the NFL, but both Beck and Max make some good money in the NFL and now playing in the CFL is still better than pumping gas and living in your mother's basement.

Or even looking forward, one has to admit that the QB pipeline for BYU is more promising than for U. But with seven QBs on scholarship on the hill, who knows, maybe one will surprise.

Actually Brad Sorenson QB with the S.D. Chargers is a former BYU QB via SUU ... Good Luck to J.B.

@ trueblue you really think taysom is playing in the NFL can he even throw? I guess we won't even find that out this year with their schedule.

I never felt that John was given the time to grow as a QB at the NFL level. Going to the CFL is better then nothing and who knows maybe he will be able to get the growth and expereince to maybe one day come back to the NFL. Good Luck

No Y QB's in the NFL currently, but there is one pending his completion of college play.
Historically though, the school up north doesn't even want to go there...

Despite several down years at the QB position BYU still has multiple former QBs making a living playing football. Congrats to John making money for doing what he loves.

    Good luck to Mr. Beck!

The minute I saw the headlines in this article I knew certain BYU haters will make the first posts to mock and ridicule and true to form, they did just as I thought they would. I suppose this silly and childish bantering back and forth about "my dad is better than your dad" will never end with some fans. It's so sad when we can't cheer for each others' success when we're not playing.

Nothing to point to EVER, so you're forced to beat your chest about lesser accomplishments.

No Super Bowl MVP's; no NFL MVP's; no Heisman Trophy winner; no college or pro Hall of Famers, so tell us, what incredible NFL record?

Nothing to point to currently so you're still living in the past?

Utah has a QB starting for a playoff team and has an incredible NFL record.

And if you want to compare any other positions in the NFL, lets do that!

Remind us which pro-football team Utah's Sugar Bowl MVP is playing in.

BYU has 5 former QBs who have been inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.

Call us when Utah wins its 1st national individual award of any kind.

Is there even a single QB from QB University in the NFL?

  • Christopher B Ogden, UT
    March 4, 2014 8:02 p.m.

CFL is clearly the landing spot for quarterbacks for QB university these days.

Hard to see Jake Heaps going anywhere but the CFL too, if he can make it to the CFL.

    Best of luck John
