Although the amounts are relatively small, here is another unfunded mandate from the legislature to the schools. Our Utah legislature opposes unfunded mandates from the federal government, yet continues to impose them on the school system.

While it is absolutely appropriate to require CO detectors in the schools, it is also appropriate to fund that cost. In our larger districts, this cost amounts. at the $825 per school, to nearly $100,000 per district. Although the total cost is smaller in small districts, the amount is proportionally as expensive.
