The only home game against a power conference program: Virginia.

The same Virginia that only had ONE win against division 1 teams ALL year.

I can see why byu fans love independence. LOL!

Big 12 Call Yet?

Even if byu went undefeated with this schedule(LOL you wont) it wouldn't get a playoff invite.

A 3 loss Pac 12 or SEC team would get the nod over an undefeated team with a schedule like this.

Should be some incredible promotion offers for ticket sales next year!

Rose Bowl call yet?

BYU will once again be bowling, for the 10th straight season, which is more than can be said of the Utes who, for the third straight season, will be left on the outside looking in when it comes to bowl season.

Unfortunately for U, the Utes will be lucky if they're a 3 win PAC 12 team.

I'd agree the home schedule is weak, but the away schedule makes up for some of that. If it happens, undefeated would be respectable.

Independence is great.

Wouldn't want it any other way.

Yikes! Is that the best BYU can do?

Might as well go back to the MWC to feast on cupcakes week in and week out. At least you'll have a conference championship to play for.

Rose Bowl call yet?

"BYU will once again be bowling, for the 10th straight season, which is more than can be said of the Utes..."

What team wouldn't go bowling with that schedule?

let's roll

Ouch...three games in 12 days, and the home opener only 5 days after the Texas game.

On balance a good schedule, a little front loaded. Having to play Texas on the road should give anyone who thinks there's a reasonable chance to go undefeated reason to pause.

What is reasonable is to think there's a good chance of winning all the home games. I'll go to 3 or 4.

"I can see why byu fans love independence." So if BYU did not go to independence their choice was to stay in the MWC. Take off your "I hate BYU glasses" and tell me the truth. Is this schedule better then a MWC schedule with teams such as Wyoming, CSU, UNM, SJSU ect... We are already playing three MWC schools and we don't have to play the really bad ones. It was worth leaving the MWC to just not have to play Wyoming anymore.

West Point , UT

I love ute fans who's only argument these days is schedule. Yay! U play a great schedule...too bad no one cares because you do nothing against it. Beat a quality team on the road, go to a bowl game at the end of the year, actually have some all Americans and some respect....then maybe U can talk about schedule.

West Point , UT

Btw Chris B, you do realize that Virginia has out recruited Utah (by a wide margin) the last three years right? They don't really help all your stars and athletes arguments do they? Or maybe they just have Utah underacheivitis where NFL and highly recruited players never provide wins on the field. U should get together with cavalier fans and share notes...you have a lot in common.

How does Virginia recruiting impact my argument?

I have never said stars guarantee wins.

Guess what else doesn't guarantee wins:

Good coaching
Fast players
Strong players
Lifting weights
Good nutrition
Watching film
Scoring lots of points

You going to tell us these things don't matter either?

Nick saban seems to agree that high stars matter, he gets among the highest stars year after year after year. But what does he know?

You brought up Virginia in a derisive and typical smack-on-BYU way. That's why I brought them up. I pointed out their underachievements so U could see just what your Utes look like to everyone else in CFB outside the MUSS. U also LOL more than anyone I know...I'm glad you're such a happy guy even when the Us future in their prestigious conference against their prestigious schedule is so bleak.

I like your list...tell me, what part of that list is Utah severely lacking that causes them to underachieve in such an epic way? You like brining up Saban all the time. He's a great coach so maybe that's Utah's problem? He works his guys hard, is that Utah's problem? Pray tell.

"What team wouldn't go bowling with that schedule?"

BYU's 2014 schedule will be tougher than Utah's 2004 #67 SOS, and likely as tough as Utah's 2008 #56 SOS.

BYU plays three teams - Texas, Houston, and Boise State - that Utah has never beaten (since Boise State moved to FBS).

Arlington, VA

Once again our BYU-obsessed troll chimes in as the first poster on another BYU article, laughable, since the Utes decided to run away a hide from the Cougars for the next 2 seasons.

"Nick Saban seems to agree that high stars matter, he gets among the highest stars year after year after year."

You keep spouting off about stars, yet Utah continues to finish in the bottom half of the PAC 12 in recruiting, which, according to your theory, virtually guarantees that Utah will be a perennial conference bottom dweller.

Compared to the other PAC 12 schools, the Utes DON'T have

Better coaching
Faster players
Stronger players
Better facilities
More money
More resources
Better television coverage
Better recognition
Better tradition

or any other significant advantage

So, how do expect the Utes to ever be competitive in the PAC 12?

4-5, 3-6, 2-7 = 9-18 overall in the conference

Bottom line, the honeymoon is over for the Utes. Simply being a member of a power conference doesn't mean much if you're not even good enough to qualify for a bowl.

"It was worth leaving the MWC to just not have to play Wyoming anymore."

Simply escaping The MTN for ESPN was worth it.

Even now, the MWC struggles to provide a decent television package for its members.

It won't happen in one or two seasons, but if BYU can get back on track to regularly winning 10 or 11 games and consistently finishing in the Top 25, they'll put themselves in position to secure an invite to the playoffs, especially the playoffs are expanded to 8 teams, which is inevitable.

Salt Lake City, Utah

In 1979, BYU finished the regular season undefeated, but barely ranked in the Top 10, at #9.

Five years later, after 5 Top 12 finishes in 6 years, and back-to-back Top 7 finishes, BYU found itself ranked #1 from late November to the end of the season to secure the consensus National Championship - ranked #1 by all five major selecting organizations, including the Coaches and AP polls.

BYU just needs to re-establish itself as a perennial Top 25 team and they'll once again prove to the naysayers that you don't have to be a member of the "establishment" in order to have a very successful football program.
