A deplorable situation that I hope is actually being improved. But, this report brings up another issue.

Remember the howls of protest and condemnation from the same New York Times and other liberal-leaning news outlets about 30 years ago when there was a clamor about homelessness during Reagan's 1st term as president? All the fingers were pointed at President Reagan as the person responsible for the problem and its nonexistent rectification. Yet, in this even worse case, in fact the worst case of homeless children "since the Great Depress", I see not a single reference to our current president for the last 5+ years.

Me thinks this is another example of slanted reporting.

Isn't New York filled with liberals who's hearts bleed for the poor and needy. You would think that with all of those people around who are so concerned for the less fortunate that this would never happen. Why is it that quite often where liberals are in charge the income disparity is greatest and the poor don't even get the scraps from the liberal's tables.
