I'm not very comfortable with moving Kaufusi's to weak side linebacker to replace KVN. He just doesn't have the foot speed or field presence to play that position.. Besides, who is going to fill in at the DE position? I had just assumed that Alani Fua was going to replace KVN at the Will spot. He had a great season last year. I wonder if this is a move by Kaufusi's dad to get him in a more draftable position...

I know I don't know the defensive personnel as well as Bronco does but I have my doubts about this move. It will be interesting to see how this works out in Spring Ball.

IDABLU its all about getting the best players on the field. With Kafusi at OLB we are actually in more of a 4-3 than a 3-4. As far as players on the DL. We have two RMs that had significant playing time before the mission Rowley and Tuilloma. There is also Kenny Tausinga and Hinds (LB) as well as Rhyeems who RS last year. There is a lot of depth now. The question is will they live up to their potential.

Too many are getting concerned over Kaufusi's switch to LB. He actually did this some last season. And the world didn't end.:) And that's what probably encouraged the coaching staff to try it on a full-time basis this coming season. As Chris mentioned we have some potentially very good run-stopping defensive linemen RMs with experience coming in and moving Kaufusi to LB in the 3-4 scheme really just makes him a flexed out defensive end on the weak side who will be rushing the QB almost exclusively, though you will see him drop back in coverage during certain zone blitzes. Think back to how they used Colby Clawson a few years ago. Same idea, Clawson wasn't running around in the secondary chasing tight ends or running backs, he was primarily a designated pass rusher. By getting Bronson outside of the interior linemen, he could become a very effective pass rusher and it allows them to vary their 3-4 look to more of a 4-3 at times. It's a great idea to utilize Kaufusi's strengths and if he gets a little lighter and quicker, he'll be very hard to block coming off the edge.
