Host an nit game?

Sounds good to me

Go utes! Onward and upward.

Any post season tourney will be very good for this team whether it's CBI, NIT or NCAA.

Frankly, and NIT bid makes this season a huge success. Sean Miller is correct, the progress the program has made under Coach K is amazing.

Go Utes!!

If you caught Nick Johnsons comments last night, he was very complimentary of the Utes, coach K, and the fans for how much things have improve the last couple years and he said Arizona was really lucky to win this game and that Utah gave them all they could handle.

Classy comments by a fellow Pac 12 member. There is total respect for all Pac 12 institutions. Its been great to be part of such a classy conference where there is mutual respect for one another.

I support all Pac 12 programs and respect all they do. And its clear all programs respect us.

We are prestegous now even though we don't win many pac 10 games. For sure we will go dancing though because of it.

Go Utes!

Not very many people expected the Utes to be in this position when preseason predictions were coming out. It's great to see this team exceeding expectations and serving notice that this program is on the rise. Go Utes!

Wow, looks like Dr. Hill and the rest are giving up!!! We know we can't win the PAC12 tourney! We know we will not be invited to the Dance unless we will win the PAC12 tourney!!! We know we are not a good road team this year so if we do not host a game or two we will be a one and done team in the NIT!!! Way to install confidence in a young team that still has 4 games and the conference tournament to go!!!!

Utah does not give up as is evident by the scores of the close loses on the road. If they gave up like a certain wcc program they would get blown out on the road even to the doormats of the conference.

Utah just lost to the #4 team in the country in overtime and gave them everything they could handle on the road.

Your smack failed just like your teams failed on the field and the court.

@ Worf it will transform to sadness to byu fans since Gonzaga will get the one bid from the wcc this year. byu will be nit bound and will get beat in thee first round just like they do in every tourney they are in.

@ Crow
What round was BYU beaten in the NIT last year?
I also think it is funny you are saying BYU teams failed.
BYU was in a bowl and BYU is currently second in their conference. How is that a fail?
I think most BYU fans would say that BYU is mediocre but by no means have they failed.

besmart,

byu is in a bad league. Its 9th "best" per ESPN and is projected to only have one team dancing.

Not at any point this season has there been more than 1 WCC team ranked and there have been weeks with ZERO wcc teams ranked.

Being second in a bad league does not make a team great, NOR does it make a team even mediocre.

Having a point guard starting his 3rd year, having a junior that will be byu's all time leading scorer, and having a top 100 player as highly touted as Mika should equal at least a first round win in the big dance.

I know if Utah had a junior that was to be Utah's all time leading scoreer, a top 100 big guy, and a 3 year starting point guard I would not classify an NIT trip as a mediocre season. That would be a failure.

Reno Cougs Fan 68,

In what way did anyone indicate the Utes are giving up? Doing the necessary work for a possible NIT spot doesn't say anything about giving up. In fact, BYU would have had to do the same thing last year to prep for its NIT run. You simply have to be ready for all possibilities.

@ CB (Mike)
A team on the bubble is mediocre any other argument is hilarious. What is the definition of mediocrity? It is the inability to do something well. Which is where BYU fits. .
Having played basketball at a high level. NIT is mediocrity which the Utes will reach this year (which is great improvement).
If BYU was senior laden then maybe it would be a failure, but they only lose Mika to a mission.
Failure is two road wins in conference play in 3 years. 70 out of 125 college football teams go to bowls. Failure is not going to one.
Failure is getting the last place recruiting class in football in your conference. (even losing the recruiting battle with a 1-11 conference foe)

Chris/Crow/Christopher-
Let me referee a bit.

The BYU fans are not claiming a great team (Christopher at 2:29). BeSmart states most fans admit BYU is mediocre. I have seen similar sentiments expressed.

The BYU fans smack failed just like their teams (Crow at 12:59). BeSmart (at 3:13) smacked that down pretty well--sort of like Jordan Bachynski don't you think?

As one who "loves" the Bruins and the PAC-12, I resent those programs on the dole, so to speak, even though they make the championship playoff games possible.

Crow,
First it was not smack talk just calling it like I see it!!! Second, after having another 20+ win season ( 8+ seasons and counting) last year the Cougs went all the way to the semi's played in the Madison square Gardens in NYC hardly losing in the first round as you claim!!! I agree the Utes have had a much better year then expected and is probably why they will be happy and excited to host an NIT game or two!!! I thought the first two games were played at the higher seeded schools gym anyway! Tough loss for Utah last night played hard but came up short!!!

So Utah has established what it takes to possibly be considered to maybe be invited to play in the secondary tournament.

All a school has to do is play the worst pre-season schedule in all of college basketball with only one of those games on the road, play sub .500 ball in the their conference, win only one road game all year, and actually have 3000 fans show up to your arena on occasion.

Now we know.

CB,
Announcers, especially PAC announcers on the pac network are paid to say stuff like that. That's their livlyhood. Now when it is a non-partial ESPN annoucncer that says stuff like that, different story. Only problem is that u cant get a game on ESPN. All their games are buried somewhere on a remote network that not very many people are willing to pay for outside of pac country.

See the difference?

You don't like research do you?

"This isn’t the Utah of two years ago anymore. The Utes are better, and getting better, and no matter how hard it must have been to lose a game [Oregon] like that, it must have been a lot of fun to be in one like it, too. It has been too long since Utah made opponents breathe sighs of relief. It’s a start."

Curious, how did you feel when Utah took your team to the woodshed? Probably not a sigh of relief!

Of course you know, your football program has 8 built in wins each year (10 in 2014).

Oh and Utah is averaging the 2nd best attendance in PAC-12, and it's not 3000 fans. Ask Mika.
