BYU can be tough in the MC. If the bigs can come out and play tough they have a good shot at beating Gonzaga Worthington is starting to contribute enough in the post that he will be more useful.

BYU Has beat Gonzaga before so they know how to do it.
If they beat Gonzaga then they make the NCAA guaranteed.

Looking forward to this game.

A win against Gonzaga would be a BIG DEAL (much better than repeatedly thumping lowly PAC 10.2 teams such as Arizona, Washington, Oregon, Standford and (Utah.2) with an occasional loss here and there (Oregon, UCLA) Other than this year I can't remember Utah beating BYU because I am too young to know Rick Maj.

BYU is due - they have been pretty miserable lately. Maybe Thursday is the night they will finally play a ballgame. A good start would be to shoot over 50% from the line.

Another tip:

Mika, please don't put the ball on the floor withing 6 feet of the basket. You lose it EVERY time.

Hoping for a win at Gonzaga. Zags always start out on fire, take a lead, and never give it up, forcing the opponent to play from behind. Love to see the Cougars reverse that. It does seem that BYU "bigs" too often bring the ball down to waist level and lose it around the basket. That must be a tough habit to quit. Nate Austin is a high percentage shooter when he puts his mind to it, maybe he should take some of the open shots opponents give him.

"..."We choked a little bit," said St. Mary’s coach Randy Bennett. "It happens. It happens all the time. You don't want it to."...".

Watching that game...it was obvious St. Mary's choked.

The hands around the throat gesture after the game that Mika made to SM fans confirmed BYU's feelings about St, Mary's performance.

Readers/viewers/fans usually get a steady diet of coach-speak.

Finally a coach tells it like it is...

Here goes the press again getting the Cougars to look past Portland. Why talk about beating Gonzaga right now when they are playing a team that they haven't beat this year first?

Also I'd rather see BYU go to the NIT and win a few games rather than go the NCAA tournament and lose in the first round.

BYU plays Gonzaga Thursday and Portland on Saturday. Check the schedule a little more closely next time.

I'm not a Ute, Butte, or Duke fan, but, in spite of all the rhetoric, unless BYU wins the WCC tourney, we are NIT bound. The NCAA will not invite two teams from the WCC.

I think the key to BYU's success for the rest of the season hinges on Carlino. They play better with him on the floor and I think he needs more playing time. Halford has proven that he has yet to transition to Division 1, and it is time for the experiment to end. Go Cougars!!!!!

Gonzaga is down this year and vulnerable. If the Zags hit threes, they will win. If they are cold like against Memphis, they will get beat. Looking forward to this game; Go Gonzaga!

Here's hoping that Gonzaga never gets a 14-point lead to squander.

St Mary really did lose this game rather than BYU win it. The primary difference was a quality guard who takes care of the ball at the end of a game. St Marys turned the ball over two times in a row. BYU continued to miss key free throws to give St Marys a chance.

Still, I am glad that they won.

During this game I was thinking how much better the student sections are in WWC rather than the MWC in their approach to cheers and taunts toward BYU. Classy students.

Still, BYU doesnt have a comparable road rival to UNLV and SDSU.

I agree with Spokane. The Zags are vulnerable this year and can be beat if BYU plays to their potential. I wish that Utah would have the nerve to schedule Gonzaga. it would be a fun game to watch although the Zags would pond them.

Latest ESPN bracketology:

Only 1 wcc team LOL - Gonzaga

6 Pac 12 teams - the most of any conference

When was the last time the WCC had half the conference go dancing?

BYU currently listed in the First Four Out, in other words, on the bubble.

Utah not even mentioned, in other words, not even being considered.

It's laughable how Utah fans are forced to beat their chests about their conference because they have no accomplishments of their own.

"When was the last time the WCC had half the conference go dancing?"

When is the last time Utah went dancing?

The fans on the hill are high-larious. They're the only "conference-first" fans I know of. Seems to me you have to be one of those teams in the conference going to bowl games or the tourney to talk that smack. I'm around PAC-12 fans all day, every day, and nobody else does this.

BYU does not deserve a tourney invite with all of the WCC conference losses. The conference is not very good. Hardly any out of conference wins to speak of other than the Texas game early. BYU will have to win the WCC tourney and honestly if they can't do that they don't deserve to go. I mean golly they got waxed by a bad Utah team on the hill. They got beat by Portland? Pacific? etc... win the WCC tourney and earn it.

There are a couple scenarios where I can see BYU making the tourney but they all involve beating GU at least once. This will be a very big game. I think a win is totally possible and also see the Zags a bit down this year--but BYU has been very inconsistent. It should be a great game. I'm not sure why the PAC justifies 6 teams in the tourney. Only one is ranked (AZ) and the rest just beat up on each other. Personally, it's hard to know if they're all marginally good or if the emperor has no clothes. With weak OOC schedules, it's hard to know for sure. Either way, they're projected to get in 6 which will not include Utah. Too bad their OOC disqualified them before they even started. I think they could have stood a chance and may have won a few of those close games had they been more prepared going into conference play.

That is so amazing! Six PAC-12 teams going to the tournament? Oh man I still can't get over how awesome the PAC-12 is. What would it be like to be in a super duper powerful conference like the PAC-12? Super jealous right here. Man, even though my cougars don't belong to such a big boy club I still have so much pride living in a state that has a PAC-12 program.

Even though Gonzaga don't belong to such an elite, awesome, and beautiful conference like the PAC-12 they would beat every single team in there. I don't know why you PAC-12 fans keep on insisting that PAC-12 basketball is soooo superior to any other conference. That's the beauty of college basketball, any team can be good no matter what conference. The only sport that benefits from such a outstanding, beloved, and most revered conference like the PAC-12 is football. Get over your PAC-12ness and support your team, like for instance, get a Ute decal for you car to go along with that PAC-12 decal.

Actually Utah beat Gonzaga the last time they played. As much as I would like to thing otherwise, they will go 1-1 in the NCAA tournament. The WCC does not prepare Gonzaga for the heavyweights from the Big 10, PAC 12' ACC, etc.
