I was born just shortly after Shirley Temple's filming career reached its high point and throughout my childhood was privileged to watch her films. So endearing was she that I was uplifted when things did not go well at home; which was fairly often. Shirley Temple Black has always been part of my life, in a way, even though I never met her. I will mourn her passing, I think in celebration. I will watch one of her films and probably still be amazed at her genius.

In her later career as a diplomat she proved herself to be quite capable - showing that there was real ability behind all the cute and curls of her youth.
