I realize the authors had a words limit to deal with, but leaving out of the discussion of bills what is at or near the top of the latest lists of Utahns' concerns seems peculiar. Public education occupies the position of most important in the latest Dan Jones poll for the Utah Business Sentiment Survey and in the Utah Foundation's Quality of Life Index. Utahns are concerned with what's not being done for public education. They want long-term planning for its ADEQUATE funding, not the annualized, failed patch, patch, patch approach that causes us not to be able to train the very best and brightest for our K-12 classrooms, let alone recruit and retain them for fully rewarding careers in Utah's public schools.

There are bills, gentlemen. We need a column devoted to them.
