Big time win over a prestigious big time Pac 12 school!Go Utes!Love these Pac 12 games!
Great team effort tonight!
The house was rocking tonight! Thanks for showing up MUSS.Lets keep
this ball rolling and get back to the top half of the Pac 12 conference!Joe Lunardi currently has 6 Pac 12 going to the big dance, the highest
of ANY conference.
Win number 1,700 for the Utah program tonight! Puts them in the top 15 all time
winning programs in the country. The Big 3 really showed up tonight!
Congrats to the team on a great win.
It was a fun game to watch and be at. The atmosphere was great. But, let's
not get ahead of ourselves. Washington isn't a great team this year but
rather a mediocre team. Progress is definitely being made but we have quite a
ways to go.
The HC is a tough place to visit, as are all of the arenas in the PAC 12. Go
Congratulations on the win tonight. Let's make a run in the second half of
conference play and take the momentum into the Pac-12 tournament.Go
I need some help from one of you BYU fans. I'm very confused about one
thing.I was told by several of you that Washington's win over
Utah last month in Washington was definitive proof that Washington is better
than Utah. So applying your logic to today, Utah has just beaten Washington,
therefore Utah is better than Washington, right? Now you can see
where my confusion lies. How is it that Washington is better than Utah, while
simultaneously Utah is better than Washington? Am I living in a Twilight Zone
episode? Or perhaps I'm trapped in some weird quantum state where there
are two realities existing at the same time? Or do you guys just not know what
you're talking about?Help me....which is it?
Whoooo Go PAC-12! Love this PAC-12 membershipOnward and Upward
Good win! Loveridge finally got out of a shooting slump, with a double-double
(6-7 FG, 16 points, and 13 rebounds).Go UTES!
Big Time win against a big time PAC-12 opponent. I predict a sweet 16
appearence...Mark it DownOnward and Upward
I just can't get over it WOW! Love this PAC-12 membership. Onward and Upward
Most important stat ... Utah won the rebound battle. If Utah can keep doing
that, they'll find themselves in a very good place at the end of the year.
I'm having a hard time falling asleep because I can't stop thinking
how awesome the PAC-12 is. Can't wait til the NCAA tournament to get here.
To watch 6 PAC-12 teams in the Big Dance is...words can't even describe
it. Yes!Onward and Upward
Hey, SammyY . . . give it a rest buddy.
Congrats on the nice win.Just want to add that the only time I don't
cheer on the Utes in basketball is when they play BYU. Have always enjoyed
watching the Ute teams in the past. Good luck with the rest of the season. Now, if we were talking football...... :)
Good win. World beaters at home, punching bags on the road! Win some road games
and give me something to believe in!
That's how you finish games. Great game, Utes!
Samoan that is a perfect impression. Nice.Actually was a decent win
for Utah. They are a decent team at home. Too bad they have to go on the road
for half their games. LOLIf they had played a decent preseason they
might actually have a shot at making some type of post season appearance unlike
the football team. Who knows, maybe the NIT will still come knocking.
Utes are definitely a better team in SLC than on the road. Congrats on beating
a bottom half of the PAC12 team at home.@Chris B - "Joe Lunardi
currently has 6 Pac 12 going to the big dance, the highest of ANY
conference." U and I are different. I care more about whether
or not my team goes dancing. I really don't care how many teams from my
conference go dancing or bowling, if I'm sitting home.@Brave
Sir Robin - "I was told by several of you that Washington's win over
Utah last month in Washington was definitive proof that Washington is better
than Utah. So applying your logic to today, Utah has just beaten Washington,
therefore Utah is better than Washington, right?"You are right,
just like if Utah played BYU in the MC. BYU would win and this would prove that
the Cougs are the better team.
"....punching bags on the road!"Nah, a "punching
bag" is what we were during moat road games two seasons ago....Just simply
still learning how to close-out games on the road to date this season,
which've resulted in Ls by 2/3/4 points and just as easily were our W,
instead, hardly qualifies for such a demeaning label, particularly when
emanating from a purported U fan!
Ekute,He was watching the Utah game because it was still a game. The
Y game was over within minutes of the opening tip.
Also, the BYU game started at 9 and the U game at 7.
This is why I don't like being a Ute fan sometimes. Too much chest thumping
after stinking for too long and then beating a middle of the pack team at home
(not on the road mind you). Too extreme. Utah is not going to the NCAA
tournament, We're DEFINATELY not going to the Sweet 16, but we can make a
pretty good run in the NIT (which is better than last year). I ask
Ute fans everywhere to please stop giving BYU fans softballs with your comments.
Although annoying, BYU posters comments contain some truth to the comments say.
@AZUTEYou are probably right, I stand correct. Just frustrated that
they can't pick up some road wins. Pretty darn good team though; post
season awaits! Take care Guy and Thanks for the response!
Great win by the utes.Delon Wright is a fun player to watch.
@Spokane Ute--Wasn't a personal or anything....I don't do
moral victories, yet I still measure improvement as it occurs and we're
light-years ahead of our last two seasons....Keep in mind, 9 Ls occurred during
'11-'12, our program's worst season in history, most via
humiliating blow-out fashion....Furthermore, we're not hitting the road
during conference play inside of H.S. Gyms, while playing against College
Basketball Heavyweights such as LMU/Pepperdine/Portland!Still counts
the same in Ws/Ls, yet through our youth/inexperience we've yet to master
the art of closing-out a sure W away from home against Power Conference
opponents, such as the nation's #1 team, as well as other likely Tourney
teams in ASU/CU, during each of which we possessed a size-able lead, unlike
little brother losing to us by 17 pts.At this stage, it's
purely 100% mental....We're better than a talented/in-cohesive team in USC
and should beat them, but only if we can raise our level of mental toughness and
get over the proverbial "HUMP"!Hopefully, pride kicks in
enough to make it happen....We'll see!GO UTES!
@ekuteMy comments were purely for my friend and long time mentor
Chris B. There's more pride of being in the PAC-12 than being a Ute fan.
I'm a Cougar fan for sure but I'm also a Utah graduate and I support
both. Just stop slamming BYU for not being part of the most
"prestigious" and "elite" conference. Give it a rest? I will
give it a rest when Chris B gives it a rest. He is the only reason I even read
the comment section on both Ute and Y articles. I try to stay away but I just
can't because I'm just too curious to see what my friend has to
say.Onward and Upward
Washington must not be very good because Utah never beats good teams.
CougFaninTXB-S-R has presented a false dichotomy, thus proving
nothing. What his argument proved is that both WA and U are equally
mediocre teams that can only prevail on their home hardwood.Does
ANYONE believe that Utah will be one of "the 6 PAC-12 teams" invited to
the big dance?
Ekute,Byu is second in the WCC and has more wins then Utah if that is
struggling in our conference then I will take that every season!!! Good win
against a conference foe last night for the Utes!!! Wishing both teams do well
the rest of the way and in their conference tourneys!!!Go Cougs!!!
@ Brave Sir Robin:It's not rocket science. Washington was
better on that particular night last month when they beat Utah, and Utah was
better last night when they beat Washington. Each held serve on their own home
court. As to which is the overall best team, that will be determined
at the end of the season when all factors are taken into account... including
SOS, overall records, downgrading obvious upsets, etc.. National
ranking services will do all of that for us, making it easy for fans not too
biased to accept those results if their team isn't ranked as well as they
would like it to be. However, facts speak for themselves. Don't confuse a
few battles with the overall war, which is still in process. It's the war results which determine who gets into the NCAA tourney and
who doesn't. A nice win last night for the Utes. I hope it
starts some positive momentum and they can keep it going. I'm confident
some road wins will start happening soon. They've shown some high level
talent quite often this season. Consistency is the next step.
I would not be inclined to automatically declare a BYU W at MC versus Utah,
CougFan.Both the U and Y teams are evolving, maturing, and finding
new combinations. Without projecting the Y's progress, the general
consensus among most informed sportswriters and observers is that Utah is
definitely back on the map.So it's difficult to find
credibility for your claim of BB superority based on the fact of the 81-64
beatdown that occurred on Dec 14th. The entire planet knows if a team can limit
one or perhaps two of your principal scorers they will very likely win by a
comfortable margin.Too bad there won't be a Utah rematch this
year to resolve the question; perhaps an alternative will be to examine the
results of your Feb 20th game at home with Gonzaga. The other four on your
schedule are of more moderate pedigree.--- Congrats on being True
Blue, but you might want to keep your powder dry until at least Feb 21st.
Reno Cougs Fan 68--"Byu is second in the WCC and has more wins
then Utah if that is struggling in our conference then I will take that every
season!!!"wcc is relatively a bottom-feeding conference, so
racking-up Ws against light-weights is meaningless.Having said this,
what really kills any "touting" emanating from byu's side are those
brutally horrible wcc losses, of which was compounded by the fact they
lost by double-digits....Ouch.
Good win.As long as defense remains a priority, the U will continue
to be a tough team to play. They've stayed in the games
they've lost because they make teams work on the offensive end and
don't give up many easy baskets. Keep up the effort on defense
and keep improving on offense and things will continue to trend upward.
Azute,So what you're saying is that all of Utah's cupcake
wins in the preseason were meaningless? I guess by that account you're
mighty Utes have what, 4 wins?
@ CFIT "Congrats on beating a bottom half of the PAC12 team" Congrats on losing to seversl bottom feeding teams from a bottom feeding
conference (see Loyola Mary, Portland etc.)@ CFIT "if Utah
played in the MC, BYU would win and this would prove that the Cougs are the
better team."That's called speculation and opinion CFIT.
The only reality we have to work with here is that Utah handed BYU their worst
loss of the season.... yet you seem to believe BYU is still the better team.
CincyRed:Your suggestion presumes BYU is one of the cupcakes. High
marks to you for honesty!
JohnInSLC,Mildred too says that the Utes never beat a good team. Even in
football, it's an on going phenomenon how in their frantic haste to degrade
the Utes, they insult their own team. In the long run, byu's in conference
wins are about as meaningful as Utah's preseason wins.
"it's an on going phenomenon . . ."ekute:A/K/A: The Campus Is Our World
CincyRed13"So what you're saying is that all of Utah's
cupcake wins in the preseason were meaningless? I guess by that account
you're mighty Utes have what, 4 wins?"This has to do w/the
comment I responded to above, how exactly?Furthermore, we UTES have
acknowledged all along how/why our OOC sched was what it was, as well as the
fact there won't be a repeat of it, going forward....Conversely, the wcc is
weak-sauce compared to The PAC-12, which is equally irrefutable, which was my
point above.Conference SOS ranking currently stand as following,
with 1/2 conference schedule still yet remaining--byu #126U
#56Finally, we left zero doubt about which school was superior this
season w/our thorough demolition of byu back in December....What remains to be
@ AZUTE!Please explain and reiterate for those of us who missed it
"how/why our OOC sched was what it was."You make a
definitive point of stating that the U has "1/2 of a conference schedule
still yet remaining" implying the Utes can improve in weeks to come; yet in
the very next breath you ignore the remainder of the season...and tournament
possibilities...when you say "we left zero doubt about which school was
superior THIS SEASON...(as if it were finished). So, you rhetorically
ask "What remains to be disputed, literally?" I would answer, almost
everything, like the rest of play in both conferences, conference tournament
play, and any post-conference tournament games. Impossible at this point to
determine school superiority for the SEASON, albeit Utah played a better game
and convincingly defeated BYU in a superior performance in December.
Questions on Strength of Schedule:1. If you play #187 Santa Clara
twice...is it as bad as playing #343 once? 187 x 2=374.2. If you play
Prarie View #329. How much better are you than a team that plays #343 Lamar?3. If your entire conference is made up of #23 Gonzaga, #55 STM #103
Portland #105 SF #112 PAC #117 Pepperdine #137 SD #187 Santa Clara and #162
Loyola Marymount...should you talk about strength of schedule?4. If St
Katherines played Mesa College...who would win?5. If you loose to #103
Port #117 Pepperdine #162 Loyola...and #44 Utah...are you better than
@UteTrogThis is why I don't like being a Ute fan sometimes. Too
much chest thumping after stinking for too long and then beating a middle of the
pack team at home (not on the road mind you). ------------You're a Ute?Who's chest thumping? The team? The
coach? Some "fan"?Speaking of chest thumping, I remember
when BYU went 1-0 in football and celebrated the win in the streets of Provo.
Did you not like being a Cougar fan then?It was a good win last
night. The program is back, we're about a year away from competing in the
PAC-12, one of the toughest conferences in the nation. And yes,
Wright is the best player in the State. Just like when Lillard was the best
player in the State when Jimmer mania was sweeping the nation.
It doesn't happen often, but it is great when the Utah, BYU, and USU all
win in the same week. Although the wins weren't against the top flight of
their conferences it is still good when they all win.
We know, Utah wins the Strength-of-Schedule Championship because you are in the
PAC!2. Fans should take the trophy and all the losses that have come with it and
celebrate on a float covered with PAC12 stickers in a parade somewhere. Maybe
like the "We're #2 Parade" from bygone days. Here are
two questions using AZUTE1's phraseology (and I'll number them
also):1. Which basketball school is superior this season...Cal or
Arizona?2. Which football school was superior in 2013...Utah or
Stanford?Draw your own conclusions.Amazing all this
Crimson boasting without a win yet outside the confines of the HC this season.
Ute fan touts scoreboard unless the scoreboard shows a 1 for whatever road
record in nearly three years of PAC12 basketball. Use the strength of schedule
argument when you actually win consistently...say .300 or .400 or even break the
.500 mark on the road—then it will mean something.Go
Utah loses a game and a lot of Y fans post negative comments. Utah wins a game
and those same fans post negative comments. Would someone explain to me how the
U's performance has anything to do with the team from Provo? Also curious
why there is such an obsession with Utah. Apparently you get joy when something
negative happens to another team. A bit ironic isn't it?
This was a nice win for the Utes and another sign they are improving. Reminder
to all the U fans. This team is basically very young with Lenz being the only
senior. They should mostly be back next year with a couple of very good
freshman added to the mix. Like to see us finish at .500 in conference this
year and set up a push for 14-15.
@CO UtePlease explain to me why it happens with some Ute fans on Y
articles? If you can explain that then you'll have your answer. It's
basically the nature of all rivalry's. But please don't think that BYU
fans are the only ones that do that. The ONLY reason why I do it is because of
one of your special fellow Ute fans.Onward and Upward
