Thanks Vai,
My feelings exactly about what the Olympics are all about. I was living in Europe during the 1980 Summer Games and was so disappointed at the US boycott of those games. The drama and national pride on display for the whole world are second to none!

It may have been one of the best events in ancient times, or earlier modern times, but it has become considerably ridiculous of late. The IOC corruption, the television coverage, the maudlin reporting, the number of new sports relying on "judging" instead of face-to-face competition, and just the sheer amount of fakery.

It's time to start a separate Olympics (would have to be under a different name, of course) with real core events, and television coverage that doesn't feel like it has to put beach volleyball on prime time most nights so that it can compete with Dancing with the Stars.

These are just a few reasons why the current Olympics is currently not the best event on Earth. But it could be one of the best (let's be reasonable and mindful of all the religious events happening on Earth as well) if it were not so currently obsessed with displaying pageantry and hype instead of the natural, organic valor coming from the competition itself.

Haven't watched them in years. Give me a Dodger World Series anytime.
