The WCC is to the PAC as Jarron Collins is to Micheal Jordan.
Jarka-rus & ekute:vous êtes à la fois hilarant. I love these
comment boards! Lol
ekuteQue tu es drole. the Pac is weak and overrated. Zona just lost to
Cal, Colorado and Oregon have fallen off any map you can think of. The WCC is
plenty "worthy" to compete with any mighty Pac team.
lol, love this notion going around ute nation in football and bball now, that
losing is somehow competing and the best one, being better! Now that is
something else. When the real Coach K and Duke lost to Notre Dame and Clemson, i
guarantee no Dukie myself included thought that they were on the rise and glad
they were competing. they almost dropped out of the rankings, so obviously the
pollsters thought the same. Yet losing every game on the road is competing??
WCC team BYU beat PAC 12 team Stanford on the road this season, which matches
Utah's road wins for all three PAC 12 seasons COMBINED!
Yes, you can count a win at San Francisco as a good road win. They are a top
100 RPI team and are tied for 2nd with BYU in the WCC. I would definitely say
that it is a good win.The comments that no WCC team can compete with
the bottom tier of the Pac-12 are laughable. Gonzaga is ranked in both polls
again, which is something that no other Pac-12 team besides Arizona can say.
Seems that there are a ton of people out there that think Gonzaga could compete
with at least 11 teams in the Pac-12.Utah has improved. But until
they win a road game? Don't claim they are competitive.
I understand rubbing salt in the wounds of your rival but this year seems a
little odd when the two teams have similar problems. Both teams haven't
been good on the road this year. Utah has been down right horrible blowing
leads and consistanly coming up short against teams they should beat. Byu
hasn't been as bad as Utah but you can't be too happy about their
performance this year either. Byu has some good road wins this year for sure
but I don't think you can count a win a San Francisco in that category. As for the Utes they need to figure it out fast the second half of the
season doesn't get any easier. At least more guys are getting involved in
the offense but there are some major issues that need to be addressed.
Loveridge was a total non factor in the Colorado game. If he is having trouble
shooting, he needs to get involved more in rebounding. He has the upper body
strength that should allow him to get more boards.
@poymanYou think that BYU didn't compete because they lost by
17 at the HC??? What do you say about a team that goes 2-11 against the
non-competitive Cougs over 7 years? Who hasn't beaten the Cougs in Provo in
over 9 years? That's what I thought.-------------Yes, any team that gets rolled by 17 points
isn't competing. When did I say BYU was non-competitive over the
last 7 years? Clearly BYU "was" the best team in the State while Utah
was at its lowest point in history.I say those Ute "teams"
were horrible. Utah was so bad that we couldn't even compete against teams
like UNC Asheville, Oral Roberts, Idaho, Seattle.
poymanLincoln City, OR@uteologySo are you
competing when you are 0-6 on the road this year? How about when you are 1-22 on
the road in Conference over the past 3 years since becoming pac12 members?-----------Yes we are competing even being 0-6 this year is
on the road. No team, including the #1 team in the nation, overwhelmed us. BYU was donezo in the first 4 minutes at Utah, that's not
competing, that's being OWNED. Can you see the difference? The
1-22 record record is as relevant to this team as 1-25 season was to your
1999-2000 team.Utah is on its way back, it's okay if BYU fans
don't agree with that statement.Go UTES!
It's good to see an objective and complimentary comment from a BYU Fan
under a Utes article...As opposed to the usual juvenile, snickering in the
corner junior high comments from the detractors.
There's a reason for Utah fans to be optimistic for this team both this
year and especially in the future...they play tough defense (something I wish
BYU could learn to do). Taking bad shots at times, not being in a position to
rebound, and not closing out tough games on the road are all fixable issues that
exist because of Utah's youth. The Utes will be just fine going forward as
they fix some of the problems, but their defense is very good, and that's
what great teams and programs are built on. Keep your heads up Utes, it's
the war that counts, while you learn from your battles.
jarka-rus,Ce que tu es bete. The best of the wcc can't compete with
the bottom of the Pac 12.
@DuckhunterBien Fait! lol
Ed Grady,No, it's at the MGM Grand in LV. That levels the court in
that all of the games are road games for all of the teams involved. The Utes
made an outstanding showing last year, hoping for even better results this year.
Will the Pac-12 tournament be held in SLC?
gdog3finallyAnother close loss on the road for a team that did
absolutely NOTHING during the pre-season to prepare themselves to win a road
game.Only playing ONE road game in the first two months of the
season is coming back to haunt the Utes; they're getting exactly what they
deserve for playing the 350th weakest non-conference schedule, almost entirely
all at home.
Another close loss down the stretch for a young team (overtime again). Since PAC
12 title hopes were lost early in the conference schedule, I look for this Ute
team to continue to fight and grow under Coach K. Maybe an inspired PAC 12
tournament run is brewing. I hold out hope for some excitement still this
season. Nonetheless, Utah is enjoyable to watch and their competitive play is
still good viewing with these quality conference opponents.
Did the Utes really lose outside the 801 area code again? That really saddens
@uteologySo are you competing when you are 0-6 on the road this
year? How about when you are 1-22 on the road in Conference over the past 3
years since becoming pac12 members? Are you competing when you lose to a 9-12
WSU team who scores a total of 25 points and loses by 35 points to Arizona, and
follows that up with losses by 30 to Stanford, and Oregon, and by 20 points to
Arizona State and California???BYU had its worse game of the year at
the HC and Utah beat them... It happens... But BYU has some impressive road wins
this year over Texas, Stanford, Utah State and San Francisco... along with a
near win over then undefeated Oregon in Eugene... BYU has beat three RPI top 100
teams on the road... Utah hasn't beat anyone on the road...You
think that BYU didn't compete because they lost by 17 at the HC??? What do
you say about a team that goes 2-11 against the non-competitive Cougs over 7
years? Who hasn't beaten the Cougs in Provo in over 9 years? That's what I thought.
Another prestigious road loss for the Utes. A 1 win 22 road loss record really
proves you belong in the PAC-12?
Another Utah article following a loss and never ceases to amaze me that there
are a few (not all) Y fans that only seem to get joy from another team beating
Utah. Just how sad and pathetic are your lives? Regarding the
actual game, it seems to be the same story; Utah plays well for a while but
can't hold a lead on the road. Well, two years ago the team couldn't
get a lead anywhere. Last year they won a few games but were frequently blown
out. This year the games are close. If the team continues to progress they
will start winning some of the road games next year. The home performance is
good but need to win away from SLC.
CougFaninTXFrisco, TX@BluedevilUte - "Utah has had a good
season so far,"Utah has beat two good teams - BYU and UCLA.
Padding the win column with 9 cupcakes does not qualify as a good season.Utah has had some close losses, but at the end of the day, it
doesn't matter if U lose by 1 or 20.----------If
you lose by 1 you're competing, if you lose by 20 you're not. For
example, BYU was not able to compete against Utah but Utah has been able to
compete against every team on our schedule.Utah has had a good
season so far relative to where the program was the last decade. The program is
rebuilding and IMO about a year away from competing in the PAC-12. We've proven we can compete with anyone in the PAC 12, unfortunately it
hasn't resulted in many wins on the road. We were a bottom feeder two
years ago, we've improved a lot since then.Three winnable games
coming up, we need to hold serve at the HC. Go UTES!
What an interesting rivalry U have with the Buffs.I looked at a
couple of articles about the Buffs win in Colorado newspapers this morning, and
did not see a single comment from a Utah fan. I also did not see any comments
from Colorado fans proclaiming a victory over their rival.I think
Utah and Colorado fans care less about the success of their teams, and their
forced rivalry, and more about being under the warm security blanket of the PAC.
Winning basketball games is all about unselfish teamwork. The Utes have the
horses, but it seems they need to give up the shot when another player has an
even better one. Blocking out and hitting the boards is mental before it
becomes habitual which translates into being more physical and fighting for the
inside position. Must admit the refs seem as baffled as the fans on what is and
is not a legit foul. Wishing Utah the best as they move forward. Go Cougars.
@ekute... I think the MC might just be more problems for the utes... In fact the
East High Gym might be problems for them... Do you know when the mighty utes
last beat the Cougs in Provo? I will help you out... January of 2005... Over 9
years ago... The MC is not a good place to start for a team that can't win
a Road Game.@crow...lol... You want to defend your utes so badly
that you say things that show that you really don't follow college hoops
very closely... Let me tell you who Portland is... They are presently 10-8 on
the season... They have wins on their home floor over both Gonzaga and BYU (both
teams in the RPI top 50), they played Michigan State tough in East Lansing when
they were #1 in the country and they have a road record of 4-4... BYU had a bad
game against Utah... It happens... However, the utes are currently 2-11 against
the Cougs over 7 years... Win every game against BYU over the next 5 years and
then ute fans will finally have a 50% win ratio and something to talk about.
@BluedevilUte - "Utah has had a good season so far,"Utah has
beat two good teams - BYU and UCLA. Padding the win column with 9 cupcakes does
not qualify as a good season.Utah has had some close losses, but at
the end of the day, it doesn't matter if U lose by 1 or 20.
The Utes just need to schedule more high school games... That way they might
have a chance at winning a away game!!
The headline says it all; the utes come up short................again. this
getting real old real fast.
I can only see 4 more regular season wins so the utes will miss out on the NCAA
and NIT. Maybe the CIT will take them. After seeing that Arizona
lost tonight it is clear that the pac is lees of a conference than people
Hopefully the two big guys they have coming in next year will help in the paint
even though I think one of them is a small forward.
Chris, it will never be a rivalry until u show that you can win!
Interesting picture - since when is it good basketball to try to set a screen
using your arms? There's one of the foul calls against the Utes right
there, but who knows if it was called.
@Max-was-right"Chalk up another huge huge moral victory. I mean
can moral victories get any bigger. This is the kind of moral victory that
deserves another pac ten billboard on I-15.Lets all hold our thumbs
together and point our index fingers up, there it is the cute little U we all
like to see. I think we should all run out and buy another pac ten sticker and
find some open place to stick it."-----------Wow.
The Utes move to the PAC-12 must strike a sensitive nerve with some BYU fans.
Talk about sour grapes. Anyway, the Utes are certainly improving
play from recent years. The wins will come.
BYU fan here. Utah folks, don't get discouraged. It'll come. It
might be next year, but it'll come. They're on a good trajectory,
you got a good coach and it'll come.
Different day, same result. This is getting old.
@poyman funny coming from a man who's team lost to Portland. Who is
Portland and do they really play basketball? At least Utah plays in a
tougher conference against tougher competition and not in the 10th best
conference in the NCAAs. Thanks again for trying to play against Utah in the
PAC12. Again the gap continues to grow and that is evident in the Olympic sports
as well. Utah dominating byu in swimming and diving.
Yikes! Colorado? They would be a bottom team in the WCC.
Colorado fans, good game you can talk smack you beat Utah today. I can't
wait for the rematch. Byu fans you have nothing to say, Utah beat your team by
almost 20....What can you say? I love being in the PAC! Utah will break
through, they only have one senior, and usually it takes a season for a young
team to learn to win on the road. Utah has had a good season so far, next year
will be special! Go Utes!
Another miserable year for Ute Fans. No Bowl game and anther losing season for
basketball. Hang in there, there is always next year.
Chalk up another moral victory for the Utes. Jordan really showed up
against Utah's "riva," didn't he - 2-11 FG, 0-5 3PT, 4 points
in 38 minutes? Pathetic!
@chrisA tough loss to a good team??? They were a good team before
Spencer Dinwiddle went down (13-2) in the first half against Washington... Since
then they were 1-4 before the mighty utes played them today... No longer do
they qualify as "a good team"...It's good to see that
you are starting to play your "rivals" a little closer... Perhaps you
can do better against the Buffs than you did against the Cougs... 2-11 over 7
years is enough to make any team look for a new rival... However, if I were A D
Hill I think that I would pick one of those teams that you played in the first
part of your schedule as a rival (like maybe Evergreen State) I think that your
W/L will look better over the years that way.
Plus ca change, plu cest le meme chose.
So what are you saying ken? Are you complaining about pac12 officiating? Why I
thought that ute fans believed pac12 officiating to be the best in all
conferences... I think that I heard on here awhile back from some ute fans that
complaining about the officiating is just a weak excuse for a team that's
not very good...Time to take off the shirts and the ute insignia and
put those big bad pac12 logos back on...I love the new motto "We
might not be very good, but some teams in our Conference are"... How true it
Keep it up, Utes. You make my day.
24 rebounds for the game says it all.
Losing by 4 is the same as losing by 24. It all equals the big "L". Both
Wright and Loveridge should jump ship after the season.
I think many of us didn't think it was very smart for Utah to only play one
road game in their out-of-conference schedule. Not having that experience early
set them up to fail in the Pac-12 on the road.I don't remember
where I read it, but I remember seeing some criticism of Utah on the boards.
According to ESPN, Utah is ranked 97th overall in rebounding. Now, some of that
can be explained by the fact that Utah is one of the better shooting teams from
the field (5th in the nation at 50.4%). However, is that shooting percentage
inflated by their weak, nearly Huntsman-exclusive pre-conference slate? (Utah
shot just 42.9% in this game.) And I doubt just not missing as many shots as
the next team accounts for all of their lower rebounding totals. Sounds like
hitting the glass may be an area that needs emphasis.
The Utes need a game at the MC to get them going on the road.
The problem with Utah is that either Taylor or Loveridge or both struggle on the
road. This game Taylor showed up and Loveridge struggled (19% FG over the last
two games). Wright is the only player that is consistent both at
home and on the road. I'm hoping Chapman is the third go to guy next year:
Wright, Chapman, Loveridge/Taylor.Go UTES!
I'm not one to complain about officiating, but I don't know I've
seen such lopsided calls in years. On one end there had to be blood for us to go
to the line, and on the other any contact anywhere on the body was a foul.Just be consistent, that's all we ask. Frustrating!
I feel your pain. BYU is having challenges in beating their rivals
too.Thought the little fish in the big pond was growing up but it
was only baby steps.I really thought when CU's star went down
Utah had a shot, but alas it was smoke and mirrors.Time to get ready
for the PAC-12 tournament and the only prayer the Utes have for a seat at the
March Madness table.
Utah will need more than two players in double figures to compete in any league.
What has happened to Loveridge lately? He seems to have vanished from any
mention. He must be in a scoring funk. Hopefully he can start to contribute
again. GO Cougs.
Good game for the utes. I give them props for staying close in most games. They
have improved this year but still cannot find a way to win on the road. Good
thing for Coloroado that they were able to schedule utah to end the three game
losing streak. I see the utes winning on the return game to the HC and they
could make some noise in the pac tourney again this year. I see them being much
more competitive next year and will win some of these road games.
aaarrrggghhh....frustrating.Keep your heads up and keep fighting.
Ooohh dogone it... How disappointing... The utes are still 14-7 though... They
have only lost one game at home right? So then what does that make their road
record? 6 losses in how many road games?... They've only played 6 road
games? Oh my... So then what is their record on the road in Conference for the 3
years that they have been in the big bad pac12 cuz I know they beat Washington
in Seattle last year? Oh my, that's the only game that they have won on the
road in Conference for the three years that they have been in the league? Oh
my... They're 0-5 this year? and just 1-22 over three years? That has to be
an ncaa record somewhere.
Mark it down. If it is on the road, utah will lose. 3-6 in conference play.
That isn't going to get it done. Funny how many fans were back on the
bandwagon after the preseason. The hype was big. The ship as been turned
around. We are back. I wonder if Wright will jump ship after this season. I
would if I was him. Get while the getting is good.
Same old story. Onward and upward. I guess utah is really second guessing
their schedule right now. Hardly a road game in the preseason and still no wins
on the road during conference play. Can't wait to see the spin
on this one.At least they lost to their rival.
C'mon Utes you gotta finish on the road. This game should have been a
Chalk up another huge huge moral victory. I mean can moral victories get any
bigger. This is the kind of moral victory that deserves another pac ten
billboard on I-15.Lets all hold our thumbs together and point our
index fingers up, there it is the cute little U we all like to see. I think we
should all run out and buy another pac ten sticker and find some open place to
Great game plan in the game, good shooting, but bad effort on the defensive
boards killed the game for the Utes. That's the area that'll need to
improve most to turn all the close losses into close wins. Very winnable home
stretch before another winnable road game at SC, hope to see it improved this
Utah shot 11 free throwsColorado shot 30Nearly impossible to win
when its 8 on 5.
Once again they can't hold a double digit lead. Coach K needs to figure out
how to keep these guys fired up for a full 40 minutes. Can't close halves
and can't hold a lead.
The Buffs aren't that good, Utes can't win on the road, no way to spin
how bad this Ute team is, unless you try to talk up the Pac like its a mega
power conference, which it is not.
Tough game, another close loss against a very good team.Especially
tough losing to our rivals. At least we have another rivalry game later this
year!Still proud of the Utes, the best team in the state of Utah.
Go UTES!Go Pac 12!
