Pacific? Why is byu playing a division II team in conference play?

@Chris B
Why do you care?

Chris, Pacific is a new member of the WCC this year, so it is a conference game.

Do teams play their best games against the Y? Why? Or does the Y's lack of a stiff defense allow teams to play better than against other, more defensive minded teams? Certainly seems opposition shooting percentage is high when they play BYU. A Conundrum.

Yep, making more threes, defending the threes, making more frees - a good three-part strategy for more much needed Cougar wins! And no foul-outs for our bigs!

A good team has to win on the road.

In spite of belonging to an overall powder-puff wcc, byu will always be a cold-shooting night away from a USF-like L at home, w/out a strong D to carry them, because they've yet to "bother" w/it....And people wonder why they've essentially never accomplished anything on the national stage, particularly during "Anti-D" dr's tenure, and this season is most certainly no different.

They drag their feet big-time before pulling the trigger on it, IF ever, yet writing's been on wall for years RE: Inherent-ceiling to dr's All O/Zero D-like approach to the game....Personally, I hope he remains H.C. 'til the day he dies, not unlike my sentiment regarding bm....These 2 are lights-out for their competition!

S/B noted it required zero effort on dr's part in landing these lone peak kids, as well as PD from down here....They were all ultimately headed to byu, no matter what transpired otherwise!

IMO, he's banking all on this group taking them beyond a mere Sweet-16 and deeper into the tourney, which has only ever occurred once, yet 30+ years hence! Lol

Pacific? Why is byu playing a division II team in conference play?

For the same reason Utah was added to Pac-10 - to give teams like Washington State a chance.

"For the same reason Utah was added to Pac-10 - to give teams like Washington State a chance."

UCLA immediately comes to mind....1 bad loss < 3 Horrible losses, 1 of which was by double-digits to bottom-feeder LMU [Who?]. Lol

Oh, the ultimate clincher--

81-64 and it wasn't even remotely this close!

Dear Chris B, it is important when we read these stories that we store the information in our memories. Pacific joined the WCC this year, and thus is no longer a Division II team. That was well published before the season.

BYU;s defenses has let them down all year. They let the other team get to the basket and simply cannot hold a lead on good teams. They seem to change their game plans at half time or do not react to the change of plans of the opponent until it is too late.

CougarBlue, I think Chris B knows full well Pacific in the WCC. He was comically pointing out that byu is in a conference with Division II quality teams. But it makes it even funnier that you and Panama are basically acknowledging that BYU is in a horrible conference and that this is the "best" conference that wants byu.

What's even funnier "Where is Hadley?" (by the way, your name should be dissolved by DN because it denigrates another person) is how the only way Ute fans can feel good about their team is to come back and troll BYU threads. Because Utah's conference road winning percentage is below 5% over the last three years.

But at least Utah has woman's gymnastics.

Pointing to The U's conf rd rec during their transition-period, which included their inaugural season in PAC-12/of Coach K's tenure, in what effectively amounted to a throw-away yr, and the following season which effectively was YR-1 of Coach K's rebuilding process as he had time to put together a recruiting class/roster w/virtually all HIS players, although virtually entirely brand-new roster, save 2 plus DF....And then this season.

As you can plainly see for yourself, this in fact equally illustrates an identical such attempt to "feel good about [his] team"....One can't effectively point his finger at another person in accusing him of poor behavior while simultaneously committing the same, identical behavior, himself [further evidence of it can be readily/endlessly found on U-threads], wouldn't you agree w/me?

How in the world did this end up being an article about Utah's world-class road record? It's a BYU article folks.

"Pacific? Why is BYU playing a division II team in conference play?"

U would know all about playing DII teams.

#98 Pacific is ranked HIGHER than 12 of the 14 teams Utah has beaten this year.

Unfortunately, some posters seem to have their perceptions clouded by NCAA football. A quick look using this thing called the Internet helped me find out that Pacific played against Miami last season in the NCAA Tournament as a member of the Big West Conference. In order for Pacific to have played that game, they would have had to be a Division I school. Like, duh? So this is obviously not Pacific's first year as a Division I program. They've been one for quite some time. They just switched conferences.

There are over 350 Division I Basketball schools. Try looking it up sometime. You might learn something.
