Those outfits are horrible. It looks like the Republican National Convention threw up. No wonder Ralph Lauren hasn't been a relevant fashion brand in 10 years - their designs stink.

I have to admit my first reaction was "ugly Christmas sweater". I can't imagine they'll be anywhere near as popular to non-Olympians as some previous uniforms, 2002 especially.

This is what happens when bosses surround themselves with "yes-men." There is no way this design goes through an objective approval process with anyone other than underlings who are afraid to make their boss mad.

Those outfits are horrible. It looks like the DEMOCRAT National Convention threw up. No wonder Ralph Lauren hasn't been a relevant fashion brand in 10 years - their designs stink.

What does party politics have to do with it?

@the truth

There tends to be more flags & patriotic symbols at Republican conventions. No need to get defensive - nobody's attacking your party.

This is why fashion designers and sports should never mix (looking at you Nike). Ralph Lauren simply doesn't "get it".

$1573 for an outfit that looks just plain awful.

It would have been so much better to have held a national contest and picked the best design from amongst the entries. It would have done wonders for the designer's reputation and given US all something we could have taken pride in.

I agree with CoolCool, this is what happens when you have too many "Yes" men and women in an organization. Somewhere along the way, someone should have put their foot down and said, "Is this really the best design we can come up with?"

Why is the USOC still allowing Ralph Lauren to experiment with styling over-kill at the expense of the athletes and the American public. There must be at a minimum, 10 different styling elements in the featured USA Olympic sweater. Whatever happened to simplicity and good taste. Ralph Lauren needs to go, and the USOC should provide fellow Americans the chance to submit team clothing designs, from which the public could choose the best design through popular vote. Even though it's just clothing it makes a statement to the world about America's image.

In one word: UGLY!

Wow, those are ugly. Even the models look embarrassed to wear them. I can't imagine a world class athlete paying for that outfit. Dangerous is right.

I know it. I Live it. I Love it.

aceroinox,

I only clicked the "comment" button to say "Ugly Christmas Sweater". You beat me to it.

What's worse about this is the fact that it was approved by people and real money has gone into it.

I know it. I Live it. I Love it.

$1573, wow

I'd be happy to represent the US wearing a $73 outfit and feeding $150 families instead.

It looks different and different does not always mean that it is bad.

I like them - they are very lively. Would I wear this outfit? Absolutely - if I could afford it.

Perhaps the average Jack/Jill can pick up one of these uniquely fashionable outfits very cheap at the local second hand store in a couple of years.

Each and every piece of the uniform is grossly overpriced.
