The Zags would compete and beat any team in the mighty Pac, Zona has showed that they aren't unbeatable even at home. Based on letting the Utes hang around

    @Chris B

Chris, BYU should walk all over this pre-season top 20 team. After watching Gonzaga, they are not even close to being a top 50 team. Mika should have his way all night long over their front court at simple ease. The Zags inside presents is very lacking. Watch their games and I'm quite sure anyone would agree. Haws should be able to launch at will and should score at least 35 points. BYU wins this one by at least 11 points one would think.

I'm a bit tired of Collinsworth going for all the glory when he hasn't earned the right. But, unfortunately, Haws does not demand the ball. Yeah, he missed that little jumper. But I'd rather have Haws miss than Collinsworth shooting, shooting, shooting. Missing, missing, missing.

I don't think the team should practice at all next week. Everyday...as long as they can, stand at the free-throw line pumping freebies. Really? Can't hit 65% of your throws? That improvement alone wins them four of their losses.

    Jarkarus,

Don't be so sure, I think Utah may hang better.

And you do realize that Gonzaga isn't even ranked in some polls and Arizona is the number one team in the country? Wouldn't any team on average do better against an unranked team than they would the best team in the country.

And doesn't byu have an amazing rpi, almost as good as Gonzaga's? Shouldn't byu be able to beat a team that isn't even ranked in all polls? Why not predict a win for byu. According to how good byu is per their rpi, shouldn't byu be able to beat Gonzaga?

And yet the best prediction you will give your cougars is losing less than Utah will to the best team in the country?

    Lol!

Coach needs to recruit outside Utah county.
    Go nationally for some bigs.
Shooting 25 ft. jumpers won't get the job done.
Defense and free throw shooting is pitiful.

BYU will win this game going away. Gonzaga is clearly not the caliber team as in years past. Mika will have a monster game inside against this ZAG squad.

I'm hoping this is not on TV, so I'm not tempted to watch. I am hoping, however, that the Utah - Arizona game is on TV. That game will be precious.

First of all, I am a big Rose supporter but I was left wondering why he left Collinsworth in the game in the 2nd ot. C was clearly tired and he couldn't hit his free throws. Also, I have to wonder if fresh bench players would be better than very very tired starters in the 3rd ot.

Well I guess if BYU was in the PAC-12 or another elite BCS conference then they would have a chance to compete with Gonzaga. But unfortunately they are not...Im sad

So Matt Carlino lost his starting spot because he was turning the ball over too much. I have watched every single game this year, and Kyle Collinsworth is a bigger ball hog than any other player. how many times did he try to do it all himself in this game and turn the ball over? he had more turnovers than he did points! not to mention his horrendous free throw percentage. IMO Kyle needs to be more the team player and stop trying to do it all himself. I bleed blue but this loss is on his bad play.

I'll be surprised if byu loses by less than 15. Gonzaga isn't even that amazing of a team(they aren't even ranked in all polls) and with byu's incredible RPI we keep hearing about, on paper byu should be able to compete and have a good chance to win right byu fans?

I think we all know whats coming. And it will be sweet.

BYU was outcoached in the 2nd overtime period when they quit attacking. It took everything out of the momentum they had going.

Will-- The final score represents 3-- yes, 3-- over times. The score at the end of regulation was tied at 80. Yes, BYU needs to improve their defense but the rest of your comment doesn't exactly fit this game necessary.

By the way, defense may be an area BYU could focus on. How many games are they going to score over 95 points, and lose. Let's maybe do some defensive work, and quit getting so excited about scoring tons of points. You're losing those games.

There is no excuse for shooting 50% from the line. Collinsworth will be a good player if he can learn to make free throws. So far haven't seen much improvement. Mika too.

Gunners are a dime a dozen, nowadays. But shot-blockers and thieves are a hot commodity for winning games. Start shopping BYU. Defend, defend, defend.

I am amazed that a team like Portland and many other WCC teams have trouble filling tiny stadiums yet seem to be able to recruit players who can match up with BYU.

  • Ed Grady Idaho Falls, ID
    Jan. 24, 2014 2:48 p.m.

For BYU to have any chance of winning, it will need a point guard who has more assists than turnovers and can shoot free throws. If Winder and Bartley are on the bench, this will get ugly early.

  • souptwins Lindon, UT
    Jan. 24, 2014 2:33 p.m.

The WCC scheduling does seem a bit odd. I hope they can work harder to not have so many stretches of continuous road or home games. There's no way to have predicted such a crazy long game last night so that's just bad luck. Hope the players can get their legs back by Sat. night. Certainly a tough situation.

How does the WCC expect us to win road games when they schedule them when we are tired?
