...oh why why do it to the little innocent children? Why?

Why do you do such a senseless act at all...?...Beyond sad...

So sad. Such a tragedy. What a cute mom and kids. Heart is broken.

Time will tell what the little facts are. Right now, we know the big facts - that a police officer, one who is sworn to serve and protect the community, has taken his family's life as well as his own.

My heart goes out to their extended family and friends. Right now, they need the support and strength of the community as they deal with this grief.

Whenever one of these tragedies occurs I recall the circumstances of an LDS bishop whose son fell apart and killed his mom and a house guest. They son, who had been much distressed, had gone to a mental health facility and pleaded for help. He was given a prescription and told they didn't have a place for him at that time. Within two days he committed the murders. The bottom line is that we need far more help for our mentally distressed community members, nearly everywhere. If we had a greater safety net for families in distress, we would at least prevent some of these horror stories from happening. Two sad stories a few hours apart in DN is just too sad.

So many people are suffering, and their relationships with spouses and coworkers seem to be where the pain takes its toll (and often these relationships seem to be the source of the suffering).

It is so sad. There is so much beauty and joy to be had if we can figure out how to stop hurting one another!

My heart aches for the family and friends of this deceased family.

Terrible story. This is the kind of story that would get national attention in the media. By the way, this paper was incredible slow in covering it. Scooped by the other paper.

An absolute tragedy.

Terribly depressing. We have no right to know what happened. Hope the press leaves the families alone. Good thoughts your way.

Deepest condolences.

There are absolutely no explanations that can justify/explain murder-suicide of innocent people.

My deepest condolences to the family, neighbors, friends and acquaintances. This is a terrible tragedy in any case. Let us not rush to judgment. Leave it to the investigators and to our Creator who knows and sees all things.

Its time that Utah starts investing more in mental health counseling. Its clear that the man was struggling and he could have used a helping hand to show him that he didn't have to feel the pain that he felt. Its sad that he couldn't get help when he needed it most.

My opinion: We do not need to know every detail. Often people, who are right on the edge, are spurred on and falsely motivated by stories like this. Point in case, we just had a domestic murder/suicide a few days ago. Let the families heal without sensationalizing this tragic event. No more stories on this, DN,

This case included, there have been 6 innocent children killed by one of their own parents this week in the United States, 4 in Utah. There is no excuse that warrants a reason to kill your own kids. It's really very sad. God Bless the families involved.

I respectfully disagree with you BYUalum. This tragic event qualifies as news just like the Martin Handcart company mishap qualified and still qualifies as News. In Shakespeare's play Othello, Did we not learn not to trust libelous information about a wife's character from one's so-called friend Iago? Prehaps there is a lesson to be learned from this event and this fellowship of readers will be edified. Hopefully the lesson will be revealed sometime in the near future and not lost by self-censorship.

The Provo Daily Herald reports "Boren and his wife had been separated for a couple months but that the separation appeared to be a happy one. He said the family continued to get together for things like family pictures and had recently taken a family vacation to Disneyland over Christmas."

Come on DN. We readers want your A-game in breaking news.

Leave the details to the families. None of our business. Would you want all your personal dirty laundry in the paper. (We all have some) Just because he killed them does not give us the right to know all. We know there was a tragedy so let's leave it at that. I have all the details I need.

Tragedy for sure. These kinds of incidents are just the tip of family tragedy icebergs. Family troubles are common; often serious. Counseling needs to be available; but, it is recognized that some people are afraid to get it; There is probably so much need, that not all who need it can receive counseling. Government resources are limited. Church ministers are often swamped. Service missionaries are possibility that should be considered. Classes in family/marriage relations need to be increased.

This makes my heart hurt! Those beautiful kids gone!
Prayers and condolences to the families and friends and those in the neighborhood and school classes.
May they be comforted somehow in this tragic time.
