Great first half for Carlino - but why does he turn the ball over "all the time" to close out the half. The Cougars had the ball the last 27 seconds, and couldn't get off a shot because of poor ball handling. Very frustrating. You could see it coming a mile away.

Pepperdine and Mary Lola community will probably be good rivals for byu in the coming years.

After getting the revenge upset win over Pepperdine, byu may just get the upset over Mary Lola community as well.

If Collinsworth can learn to make free throws he will become a pretty good ball player.

Nice! That is how you close out a game. 33-10 run in the second half to end it. Cougars are on a roll! Now just keep it going as you hit the road. Big games coming up!

Great game overall. Collingsworth is earning my respect at the PG position, and I love having Carlino come off the bench (although I still think his shoot first mentality has got to go). I think Loyola was feeling picked on (officiating-wise) and I agree that many ticky tack calls against them were called, but the Cougars got to the line more because they were on attack mode all night--LM wasn't. This game shows that we're headed in the right direction. Go Cougs!

No doubt BYU are state champions, and can win w/o Mica.

Excellent second half. And we must congratulate Matt Carlino. What a great game for him and we are all grateful that he may have at long last found himself. Great game Cougs, one and all!

Nice comeback win for the Cougs in a dominating performance over LMU.

Carlino is learning to play under control and involve his team mates more. Matt spent about 15 minutes practicing his 3-pointers 45 minutes before game time and it paid off.

The next four games are critical if BYU is going to stay in the race for the WCC title and an NCAA berth.

Haws just proved why is is without question the best player in the state, hands down, no questions asked, end of discussion. Collingsworth looks like he may be the 2nd best player in the state with Carlino sneaking up on them.

So if any fans are wondering about the value of HCA (home court advantage) you just saw it this weekend... BYU loses by 11 to LMU and 6 to Pepperdine and the following week plays both teams on in the MC and beats LMU by 23 and Pepperdine by 12... That's a 34 and a 20 point swing... On average that amounts to an average of a 27 point difference... So you can see what may will have happened had the Cougs got the utes and the Ducks in Provo instead of slc and Eugene...

I have to add that I was more than surprised that any ute fan would want to come on any thread and belittle the Coug's SOS when nearly all Poll agencies show the Cougs with one of the 10 hardest schedules in Division 1... Meanwhile the utes are still showing an SOS of 300 or more in a field of 351 total Division 1 Teams. Futhermore, the two WCC teams ridiculed by CB both have RPIs 20 places higher than the utes...

If the season ended today both Pepperdine and LolyMola community would get Tourney bids ahead of Utah... lol.

Loved the hustle from everyone in the last two games. Carlino was pure gold off the bench last night! I'm just so happy to see his confidence back. I hope he doesn't pay much attention to his critics and just keep working on improving his game. He's a heck of a thief for sure even though sometimes he tries to do too much and end up turning the ball over. Haw's had his share of blunders too but overall he was money in the bank as always.

And with the men's volleyball team upsetting #1 Long Beach, it was a magnificent night for the Cougars! I went to bed with a big smile on my face.

Go Cougars!

Chris,

It's time to get another hobby. This is BYU's worst basketball team in several years and they still will not be as bad as the U has been for the last several. By the way, the few decent teams Utah has played they have lost too. Utah has definitely gotten better, but they still won't be near the top in the Pac and will once again miss on March Madness. Don't get me wrong though, BYU won't be in the big dance either.

Nice win over LMU, BYU's nemesis.

poyman,
That's what you said about football back in September, "we've got'em at home, this is our year, etc". Are you forgetting last years basketball game when Utah wasn't near the team that it is today.

I think a team like byu should be more dominant in conference like the wcc. There's no reason for struggling with or losing to anybody but Gonzaga and Saint Mary's. Good Luck.

It was a strange tale of two halves. My preference was for the second half. For those who can only trash talk the Cougs, TVs have an OFF switch.

poyman,

"If the season ended today..."

LOL!

You mean if we were to assume that all the big time teams that play big time conference schedules somehow didn't play more than a couple conference games?

Good logic there pal!

Ya, and if the season ended after 3 games into the football season then the SEC teams wouldn't have very good strength of schedules either.

LOL

poyman,
My apologies, if they played again today, byu would get their revenge. Not because byu is that good, because Utah is that bad.

Don't kid yourself; the season is already over for the Utes.

While BYU's RPI is holding steady in the 30's since entering WCC play, Utah's RPI has actually dropped into the 160's since conference play began.

After losing to teams with the 9th and 11th worst RPI's in the PAC 12, the Utes now find themselves dead last in the conference. If Utah was in the WCC, they'd only be 8th or 9th.

Lowly #123 Pepperdine and #146 Loyola Marymount are ranked 20 to 40 places higher than the Utes.

The truth is, there is no "big time" program on the hill. Only a burned-out relic of a once-proud program that died a decade ago when Majerus left.

I like this team. Fun to watch. Collinsworth is an animal - he's everywhere. Haws is a knife in the back, and Carlino will become a leader, methinks. Mika will be a great center when he grows up.

As for our friend, CB, well, I love to read his posts after every BYU victory. Every team they beat is a glorified HS team. He claims to be a Utah fan, but I think not. He lives and dies with BYU losses and wins. Every win is painful.

Tough to be a hater. Better to be a fan.
