A 1948 convert to the church, she never lived in Utah, but she was a Newberry nominee.

Elizabeth Smart--what a fine young woman with a good head on her shoulders. I saw her in a television interview and was so impressed. Her horrendous experience could have ruined her life, but she is so strong and has stepped beyond all that. Utah should be proud of her. Can't wait to read her book.
