Congratulations to byu for your first wcc win. Per espn this puts byu in 7th place in the wcc. I imagine it is tough going from thinking you are the best team in Utah and a likely lock for march madness to being 7th in the wcc and your quest for march madness over with 3 months of basketball left.

I truly think if byu gets hot they could climb to 3rd in wcc and maybe even pull off an upset over Pepperdine and Lola Mary community college next time you play, avenging the losses to them.

Good luck

Carlino will be working to earn back his spot as a starter. How can Dave Rose keep Halford on the bench with that kind of production? Nearly every time Halford comes in he makes a positive impact. I say let him start from now on - it's his job to lose at this point.

Great game for Skylar Halford. Finally, he got his break and made the most of it. I hope he continues in the starting lineup. We want more of what we saw tonight. Eric Mika is a war horse in there, but he needs to be more careful. He took a couple of hard falls tonight.

If famous ute fan (chrisb) were living in a glass house when he tendered his post on this thread, by tomorrow he would need to wear some strong sturdy boots to lounge around as he will be walking over and through a ton of broken glass...

Demeaning teams in the WCC and declaring them weak when the team you cheer for has played but just one game off of their home floor (which, btw, they lost)... and having won ONLY 15% of their games against the 7th place team of this lowly league that they criticize (going 2-11 over the past 7 years)... and then sporting a SOS, according to the most recent RPI, of a whopping 315 out of a field of 351 total teams... creates so much "hypocrisy" that it is near impossible to even describe... So one has to simply smile, emit maybe a soft chuckle, and realize that these judgments come from someone who simply doesn't understand College Basketball... lol.

Again, Skyler has better motor and control for his team than Matt does. Sorry Matt! Now we have two guys Tyler and Sky when hitting their stroke and maybe some more other players when they are feeling the rythem that we haven't had in a long time. No, we may not be better than the Zags or ready for ncaa.

Funny to hear Chris B talking smack when BYU has a road win over a Pac 12 team and Utah doesn't. In fact, Utah doesn't have a road victory at all.

BYU vs. Utah St. was the state championship, and BYU won.

As much fun as it is to see Skyler hit the points, I love to watch his defense. He is absolutely frenetic. He is in his man's face all night. He is incredibly energetic and I get figity just watching him...I wonder what his opponent is feeling. Obviously Dee paid the price with his low output.

Nice strawman argument. Utah hasn't played a PAC-12 team on the road. Also, it's obvious that Utah is the best team in the Beehive State this year, and it isn't close.

rhap, have fun with your midmajor state championship title.

I first want to thank all the athletic staff at BYU for all the hard work and effort that is made for the student athletes. I really appreciate the work that is put in to get talented athletes that voluntarily live up to the honor code and the the opportunity given for them to repent if they break the honor code.
I especially want to thank Bronco Mendenhall and Dave Rose for the hard work they make in the pressure cooker of coaching student athletes at a high level.
No football team has ever won a game without controlling the line of scrimmage; no matter how many top skilled players they have. No basketball team has ever competed for a championship without consistent multiple 3 point shooters that open up the inside game. In basketball the past few years, the same team has shown up. The difference is when losing they place a garbage can lid over the hoop so they can't beg, borrow or steal a basket. Lets lose the garbage can lid and get consistent. I appreciate their efforts.

Besides a great shooting percentage, Skyler brought teamwork and defense back into the coug's game. That is the greatest move of all. As a team they can now start to jell and move forward. They will demonstrate their teamwork then they will move up in the conference. Way to go cougs and coach. Brave moves are needed.

24flinching,

Truth is that we really don't know who has the best team in the state this year... There is a total of 6 teams... BYU is 2-1, USU is 3-1 and Weber State, Southern Utah and UVU are something less than that... the utes beat the Cougs on their home floor but that's the only game that they have played... In fact the ute's will have their first over-nighter this week and I bet you that coach k and his team are excited about that... However, they will find (like they found out in Boise) that it's alot tougher playing in another team's gym in front of the other team's fans...

The Cougs have been doing that all year (in fact maybe too much in preseason), but now they get to do a little of what the utes have been doing for the past 2 and a half months... I think that they will like that and it will show in their record at the end of the season.

Based on SOS and RPI ratings... If the utes and the Cougs finish with similar records the Cougs should have the advantage for an at large invite.

poyman,

Your team better beat Saint Mary's and Gonzaga at the mc and not have any more devastating losses just to hope for an NIT bid. Your only hope for the NCAA's is if you win the wcc tournament. Won't happen.

When I played my biggest fear from a defender was if he was crazy enough to get me hurt. Halford pulls this off. Sometimes if amazes me about how coaches can get locked into a player when there is someone else who obviously is better. Sorry Carlino, but Halford is better. UCLA was right, you aren't a point guard. It is obvious to many that you still believe you can be in the NBA and the only way you can get there is by scoring points.

Chris B,
Thanks again for reminding us all that you are an expert on all things sports and especially BYU!!! Way to jump the gun about where BYU stands in the WCC! How many games has Utah played away from home again? Nice victory against OSU! Did you and the MUSS rush the court since the Utes are now at .500 in conference play!!! Where does that put Utah in the PAC12? Hope you had a wonderful holiday!!!

Go BYU Rise Up!!!
