Looks like byu will pick up the win

I think this will move them into 7th place in the west coast cupcake conference. For a season that started with fans certain they'd be in the big dance, it must be tough knowing dancing is already out of the question

Congratulations on the first wcc win.

Ya Chris it has been rough after high hopes. Now we know how the utes have felt for the last decade.

Cougs showed some half-court offense tonight, passing the ball around very well.

Halford was unconscious! Good for him!

Serious question, do BYU players lift at all ? They look so thin. Here in ACC country the players look so much stronger.

I would not count the Cougars out. I remember Jerry West going through a slump back in the 1970's when the Lakers won 33 consecutive games.

If BYU runs the table for the rest of the WCC they will take the conference championship and go to the big dance.

They nearly beat Iowa State and Oregon. They lead all the ranked teams they have played by double digits in the second half. A little more consistency and they will be there.

I love Chris B always showing up on the boards. Usually you actually make good points, but the nice thing about College Basketball is that if you win your tournament you have an auto bid to the tourny. Gonzaga usually chokes in WCC tourny so its real possibility no matter their record in season play.

It appeared to me earlier in the season BYU could not win with Carlino as the starting point guard. I don't know if Halford is the answer. But, the team looked like they were playing as a team instead of watching Carlino kill by the 3 or die by the 3, live by the drive or turn it over with the drive. Good game Cougars. That being said, I admired Carlino cheering Halford on as he was succeeding.

Not really a "good win" by the metrics of the selection committee, but this game was undoubtedly a confidence booster. As for running the table, as some have suggested, not likely. There will be nights when their shots don't fall, which may coincide with other lesser teams' hot shooting nights, and they still have to play the other two good teams in the league, and well-coached teams will have chances to adjust to them. But a win of any kind helps reroute them in a positive direction, and teams like Utah, Stanford and Texas should be happy to see their RPIs helped at the end of the year by BYU winning a few more games. I don't think this win does a lot to put them back in the tourney hunt with a 9-7 record, but at least it's not another disaster like last week was. Good to see Halford playing well. I got to know him a little while he was at SLCC, and he's a great kid, and tough competitor that fits well with the team's style and goals.

If the Cougs play like they played tonight they will do very well through the rest of League play... That will give them a decent seed in Las Vegas and if they can maintain the intensity there they will be happy with what follows...

But with one good win against a very mediocre team I am not ready to say that our team belongs on a Regional Bracket somewhere in mid-March...

I also have to disagree with jonjon... I believe that Gonzaga has won every single WCC Tourney since they have been in the league except for their OT loss to St. Mary's a couple of years ago... I wouldn't call that "choking"... They will be a very tough team to beat this year, In fact, we have only beaten them once since we joined the league in 2011-2012... And, we have never beaten St.Mary's since we have been in the league...

As far as the WCC is concerned, it is far from being a "cupcake conference" and anybody who uses those words simply doesn't understand College Basketball...

BYU is in 7th place and they have beaten a very good Stanford team in the big bad pac12 on their home floor, and came within a free throw of beating the second highest ranked team in their conference also on their home floor. They have beaten a very good Texas team on a Neutral court and led 3 of the top 12 teams in the country the majority of the game before falling in the last couple minutes of play.

Meanwhile, some ute fans believe they can pronounce a team and a conference weak when their team has yet to win a game off the floor that they practice on everyday (they have lost the only game they played on the road (Boise State) and yet the WCC's fourth place team beat the team that they lost to on the same floor that the utes lost on)... That's not even to mention the fact that the utes are 2-11 against the Cougs over 7+ years... Experts with a 15% win ratio... lol.

Quote: "“Things will change for Sky now because people will see how effective he can be,” Rose said."

Well, Matt Carlino still hasn't slowed down his motor or out of control. Skyler has better control most of the time. Team gets frustrated with Matt and not on Sky.

You know why chrissy shows up, u won yesterday game and starting to see rpi going up at slow pace.

And yes ACC is stronger than wcc as a team and we haven't forgotten that sir runnerguy50 from Virginia Beach. As well with b10, sec, big12, pac11 and BIG LEAST!

Please Dave Rose, keep Skyler in as your starter from now on.

Nice game Cougars. It all starts with defense.

Simply amazing what kicking the neighbors dog (San Diego) can do for the strut of the BYU basketball team and fans. All is well now, the kitties in Provo are once again are going to win the national championship and are the best team in America, in the eyes of their faithful. They can proudly strut until the next game.

Springville, UT

I am a huge fan of Coach Rose, but I am wondering what is going on. Halford rides the bench for the year until now. Mika is left on the floor even though he is getting beat up and seems to hardly be able to move. Worthington, a highly touted player from Wisconsin barely plays all year. I wonder if the coach plays favorites or if some form of politics is at play. It is perplexing.

Way to go Cougars! May be we have found the catalyst to push BYU over the top.

I believe BYU will recover from their conference start a have a say as to who wins the WCC. I can see them taking 2nd in the WCC. Gonzaga is vulnerable on the road. Nice bounce back win for BYU.

It was a good win.

You're joking, right? Look, as a fellow Wisconsinite I was thrilled when Worthington picked BYU (even if it meant skipping out on football with the Badgers). But he is horrible. Rose knows what he is doing.

I wouldn't say "horrible". He's big, well built, but a freshman. Maybe he's hasn't grown into that body yet. But he doesn't compare to Mika, for sure. Is he going on a mission? If not, he'll have a chance because Mika won't be there for the next two years.

River Falls, WI

Fair enough BlueHusky. I believe I've read he isn't planning on a mission. Hopefully we'll see the kind of improvement with him that we've seen with Mika this season.
