Dear Chris: the 12 days of Christmas START on Christmas Eve (and last until Epiphany), so removing decos as late as January 6th is perfectly defensible. St. Nicolas Day in Europe is around December 6th so that USED to be the day we put 'em up -- and we were early. But I think we ought to leave Christmas out of Thanksgiving and Halloween (particularly the latter since it started out as a Druid festival...maybe we could put up Stonehenge for Halloween(?)). But the arrival of Santa Claus the week BEFORE Thanksgiving, well, Edmund Gwenn would shudder at that !!
