Good luck, this family certainly deserves better, and is doing what they are supposed to do, and are willing to pay (if necessary, I assume) but the Obamcare system, and site, are hopelessly broken.

"if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor. If you like your plan, you can keep your plan. Period." Those were just the first of many untruths of Obamacare, and there will be many more as yet undiscovered.

Obamacaree was designed to fail, and thus create a demand for a total government run health system. Free to everyone, of course.

If you thought health care under the old insurance systems was bad, see what you get starting January 1, 2014.

If you think what is available January 1, 2014 is bad, just wait until you see what nationalized health care provides you, and how much "free" really costs.

Obamacare- it's enough to make anyone sick.

Don't look for answers. Demand them. A single payer system for everyone.

Don't look for answers. Demand them. A free market in health care for everyone.

A free market means people are free to engage in voluntary transactions, such as paying a doctor and receiving care. Under Obamacare, old people will be denied that opportunity. We'll have to figure out how to get offshore care - I've heard that India is high on the list of places to go.

How far we have fallen.

Sad story that has been and will be repeated millions of times all across America, compliments of Obamacare. When you go into your voting booth next election, just remember, "If you like your healthcare/doctor, you can keep them, PERIOD.

Blame it on ObamaCare all you want, but remember - Utah opted not to expand their system to full functionality. There is a reason stories like this occur in red states but not blue states.

Single payor systems are a joke. Stifle innovation and costs will soar. The answer is to leave it in the hands of people. Consumerism and accountability are the only things that will drive down costs.

==========

It appears neither one of you even bothered to READ the article before commenting --
It was not even the federally based "Obamacare" website they had problems with,
but the "Arches" website right here in little old Utah.

BTW - Kalindra is correct.
Thanks for making a note of it.

Kalindra,

Get your facts STRAIGHT before you start spouting out nonsense. The MEDICARE expansion has nothing to do with this families situation. "full functionality" is the WEBSITE's and Pres. Obama's cronies fault.
*sigh* @ people who come on hear and talk just to make noise.

What are you talking about? The article refers to the federal healthcare website (also known as the marketplace) several times:

"Kent and Jody Jones thought enrolling through the federal healthcare dot gov website would be easy. Instead, they have no coverage for their three kids, no answers, and they feel like they're at a dead end."

"The official response was: 'You don't qualify for health insurance through the marketplace.'"

"Troubleshooting on the issue by Utah Health Policy project experts included three questions:...Do they have an application pending in the marketplace already?"

"Healthcare dot gov said the family's youngest child may have been eligible for the Children's Health Insurance Program."

Jones also said that Arches Health Plan was helping them figure it out-there is never a mention about it being Arches website:

"Jones worked with Arches Health Plan"

"Not only does it not make any sense to me, but it doesn't make sense to Arches Health Plan, who's been helping me during the entire process to pick a plan"

I don't need or want health insurance. I have done well for 14 years without -- on average spending less than $5000 per year on medical expenses for a family of 7. I am convinced that if working Americans knew how much they spend on health insurance for the pittance they get in return they would choose to pocket the cash. I am personally choosing to pay the tax rather than get insurance.

Three cheers to South Carolina for being the rebellion against Obamacare.

Single payer systems are the best. They remove all the overhead, bureaucracy, ads, lawyers, buildings, shareholders, you name it that insurance companies add, all of which is resources removed from actual provision of health care.

Headlines from single-payer system in the UK:

"60,000 euthanized without consent"
"20,000 appointments canceled due to doctors' strike"
"Breast cancer betrayal of older women; Only 1 in 7 over 70 receiving chemotherapy"
"Patients going blind waiting for eye surgery; doctors frustrated"

Google any one of these headlines and read the whole story.

@Kalindra: "Blame it on ObamaCare all you want, but remember - Utah opted not to expand their system to full functionality."

Even if Utah opted out, the federal government was supposed to provide a federal market place to fill in the gap.

@FREDISDEAD - the expensions are for MEDICAID not MEDICARE. Medicaid is pretty much state run while medicare is federally run.

I applied for a health plan and got "You may qualify for medicaid" I have the worst medicaid there is out there but could loose it which means I will be with out my medications when I run out next month.

If I still have it I may be stuck with the same coverage that I have now which means -which stinks. Luckily I only go to the doctor 2 to 3 times a year but my meds are needed every day every month

Wow, that's interesting distant thunder. I could not find your first headline anywhere, even though I googled it. I did find, however, a number of comment sections that had posts with the exact same four headlines, in the exact same order.

Interesting.

Care to tell us exactly where those headlines are from? What is your source?

Somehow I feel we are not being told the complete story and there is a part of the case being overlooked. I will be watching for the final resolution of the problem.

“I’m already living a very conservative lifestyle as it is, and the government’s going to force me to live in poverty.”

Isn't this what the democrats wanted all along -- equality (equally miserable)? What a morally bankrupt party.

They need to apply for Medicaid first. Once they get a denial someone should be able to help them. My family and I had almost the same problem. The information about not qualifying for chip or Medicaid because the parents are eligible for coverage through the marketplace is not correct. After applying through medicaid all of our kids qualified for chip. We were denied saying that we qualified for coverage through the marketplace. After that our application went right through and my wife and I have been able to sign up for coverage.

Unfortunately there is no one that knows everything about the ins and outs. Depending on who is helping you can get all sorts of different answers.

This most certainly is a software error with the troublesome website. There is help with Obamacare over the phone. I suggest the family try that.

FYI, the federal website is not functional in Utah since Utah has been granted the right to use is similar health care plan under the "Utah health care exchange system" independent of the federal Obama care site. In Utah to get Obama care you have to go to the Utah health care exchange and why this Utah company is involved.

Another FYI, this system hasn't even started to work yet or take money yet or pay claims yet and thats where the real fun will begin. Property and homes and personal assets including retirement accounts will quietly be confiscated and foreclosed on for filing claims through the health care exchange systems at state and federal level. Using the obama care is an undisclosed loan and debt to the state and IRS federal tax recovery systems. Its a tax debt you can't stop.

The people haven't even felt the financial pain yet and that will be the killer of health care, prepay costs exceeding $10,000/yr before insurance pays any costs. Ignorant left wingers are deadly to the economy of this country.
