Meh...who cares. I could take this rivalry or not nowdays. All the vitriol coming out of both camps over a game is getting old & ridiculous, and I blame myself as much as anyone for trash talking with ute fans. It's CFB and CBB folks, not life. Whether BYU wins or loses or Utah wins or loses has nothing whatsoever to do with me, so I've made a New Years resolution just to say it how it is, and leave the trash talking to much younger guys than me, who haven't realized there's more to life and still collect baseball cards and watch their daily Family Guy. Cheers y'all and happy holidays to Cougars, Aggies, Utes, Wildcats, Thunderbirds, and Wolverines (I think that's UVUs mascot) :).

The volume of anger on the Deseret News comments boards from "nice" people always amazes me.

The Y has owned the Utes the past few years in Basketball. I know that fact is lost on Utah football boosters, but it is true none the less. The U would be nuts to dump the Y in basketball, and they are nuts not to play Utah State 9or just plain chicken). The U is actually winning this year. Who are they playing? Snow College?

As a Cougar Fan I hope the series continues. I do think Dave Rose put pressure on Dr. Hill by making public what was being spoken about in private. I think that was smart as many in this state see the U of U being the one responsible for ending the yearly football rivalry with the Y. I don't think they want another black eye ending this one as well when everyone knows that it is easy to schedule a yearly basketball game. There are at least a dozen non-conference games for heavens sake; anyone could figure this one out.

Also, I agree with Aggie fans this game between the U of U and Utah State should remain and should stay home and away. The U coach needs to know that your team gets better for conference play when they go into hostile arenas and play good programs. The patsy's they are playing this year is an embarrassment and won't help you prepare for the Pac 12 talent you are going to face.

Finally, I am all for a State tournament, but you need another team for an even number; how about Lone Peak!

For all the accusations of arrogance coming from the Cougar fans their comments here indicate they are the ones who are truly arrogant. When was the last time the Y played a bball game in Logan?

I'm content to let the players decide who's better on the court. I'll be at the game and I'm looking forward to a good one.

Mormon Ute: We played there two years ago, and will be there next year. How about you guys?

This is everyone's last year to take pot shots at the U bball program. Get your shots in now because the program will return to its former spot as a national top 20 team each year. Enjoy your chance to bag on the U, because it is coming to an end.

@MormonUte, BYU played in Logan in 2011 and will again in 2014 as part of the regular schedule with Logan, Provo, Energy Solutions. No arrogance or fear from BYU in scheduling a balanced and fair arrangement with Utah State.

What Utah State fans fail to realize is both Utah's and BYU's athletic programs are 2-3x more valuable brands, yet they act like Chris Hill and Tom Holmoe should treat them as equals? BYU only goes out of theri way so far for Utah State since they without question get a lot of political preasure to do so from their governance board with Utah State people with power near the top. The state of Utah Board of Regents however is overwhelmingly now stacked in the University of Utah's favor whch is why Utah will go out of its way to treat the Aggies as the kid-brother cow college they are.

@ No playoff for U

Unfortunately for U, Utah's loss total will also increase, dramatically, because Utah's cream puff pre-season schedule has left the Utes completely unprepared to face the rigors of conference play.

Tell me sir how will the loss total increase dramatically once Utah starts conference play. Utah has the depth, size, versitility, and skills to compete in the Pac-12. Last year with out the depth, size, versitility, and skills Utah started to gel winning their last two against Oregon, Oregon St. and winning two to make it to the semifinal in the Pac-12 tourney.
Even your Greg Wrubel said on the raido last night that Wright posses a problem for byu and likened him to the G out of UMass. Quick and athletic. Utah can throw several players at Mika and get him in foul trouble and who is byu going to use at that point Austin to help defend? Wruble said that they are desprate when it comes to their bigs and need Kaufusi to help out the basketball team.
Utah will be just fine in Pac-12 play and will win Saturday but thanks for your concern.

Merry Christmas Cougsndawgs! Great insight.

My life is better if I don't read comments from about four posters. Life is too short.

I'd love to see an annual December tournament on the Jazz court with all of the Utah universities. Make it December madness and make it all about the joy of college sports. Too bad $$$$ and egos would never let such a tournament happen. Although it seems that such a tournament could generate some significant cash for all of the programs.

Go Aggies! Go Cougars! Go Wildcats! Go Wolverines! Go Thunderbirds! Go Utes!

So tired of hearing about how tough the big bad pac12 is and how weak the WCC is... Truth is that the top 5 teams of the WCC would do very well against the top 5 pac12 teams on neutral sites...

In addition... Even if the big bad pac 12 was all that, the truth is that the Conference would be rated higher and tougher if the utes weren't in it... They continue to be the doormat of the conference half way through their third year... They are in the bottom three in all the major sports Football, Basketball, and Baseball... The only thing that they have going for themselves is Women's Gymnastics... No other pac12 team are as horrible as the utes... That is why the ute fans talk up the conference instead of their teams... Their teams just aren't competitive... Granted they rise up to beat the Cougs 4 years in a row but I expect that will come to a grinding halt next year... Then what???

BYU and USU both tend to fill seats in their respective stadiums. A 1-1-1 deal works well with them because we know their fans will travel to that neutral site game at Energy Solutions every third year.

How is attendance at the Huntsman right now? If they can't fill their own building, can you really trust that fans are going to show up at Energy Solutions or any other neutral court? It's not worth it for either USU or Utah to agree to a neutral site game. And USU would be foolish to do anything less than a 1-1 agreement when they can pack their house and Utah can't.

As for the game on Saturday, some things we can predict:
1) BYU should win this game. If they don't, it's because they play poorly. Sorry, but BYU is the better team.
2) Regardless of who wins, BYU will compete for the championship of the WCC and (barring total disaster) get a bid to the NCAA tournament.
3) Regardless of who wins, Utah will finish no better than mid-conference and miss the NCAA tournament.

@ Cougar11 "The patsy's they are playing this year is an embarrassment"

Utah's patsies are font-end loaded, BYU's are back-end loaded during conference play. Just a little truth you and other Y fans either ignore or are oblivious to.

Utah and BYU don't play each other in football next year so you will have to find another reason or excuse to be bitter and to hate Utah. I'm sure you will come up something. You always seem too.

PAC12 vs. WCC (sagarin)
#2 > #11
18 > 22
21 > 27
33 > 78
42 > 112

Even with you cherry picking the top half of the WCC, it's not even close. It gets even worse when you consider the full WCC conference with mighty Santa Clara checking in at a stellar 201. Don't try to make the WCC something it really isn't.... tough.

So I suppose you were the ONLY y "fan" who didn't claim the coug's upcoming 3-game football series with Univ of Arizona was a true home-and-home, since the third "neutral site" game will be at Univ. of Phoenix Stadium.

Love the consistency, y "fans".
