A person who illegally immigrates to "make a better life for their kids" should get the same treatment as a person who robs a bank to "make a better life for their kids"

Illegal immigration is NOT a victimless crime. It causes increased drug use and drug violence in our country. It causes health costs to skyrocket when illegal immigrants go to the emergency room with no insurance. It increases education costs.

And for those who claim the rules are too hard to get in, nonsense. The United States admits more immigrants LEGALLY each year than any other nation in the entire WORLD.

Do it legally or don't come to our country.

Many people immigrate to this country legally every year. If more people would immigrate LEGALLY... we could control the flow, and increase the numbers when the economy is doing well and can support them, and restrict it a little more when the economy is down and struggling to support the number of workers already looking for jobs.

If people would come legally... we would know who was coming and going, and we would know they have the resources and ability to support themselves (and their families) while they are here.

The current game of just staying under the radar long enough that you become a citizen by virtue of being able to fly under the radar and stay long enough without getting caught... is not the way to go.

It so confuses me when US citizens take the high road about illegal aliens and never confront the employers who brought them here and continue to make money off their hard work. No comments about penalties for the employers, but for those who are caring for their families we want immediate removal.

This state was settled by illegal aliens looking to leave the U.S. and move to Mexican territory to escape prosecution, or to escape famine and poverty in Europe. Maybe we ought to not compare illegal aliens to bank robbers, but to pioneers looking to find a place for their families.

But then again, if we do nothing then the children born here by illegal aliens as citizens can take their political revenge when the GOP-controlled powers force mom and dad back over the border. I want to stick around to see that in twenty years.

Be poor and from Mexico and see what happens when you try to immigrate legally.

I agree, Jan. It is difficult for me to see how some of our people can support giving the precious gift of American citizenship to those that have chosen to try to take advantage of what America offers by coming into this country illegally and then to stay, taking American jobs and some stealing identities to further break more laws.

It is a slap in face to those that have become citizens the legal way.

Is it OK for poor Americans to break our laws? Mexico has one of the top 15 economies in the world. They are responsibile for their poor, just like America is responsibile for ous.

Richard B,

Not the point. The point was folks were saying just do it legally. If you are from any of the near Latin American countries that is nearly impossible unless you are wealthy or super educated. So what folks are really saying is, don't come. That is okay to say, but then just say it. Don't act like those folks have a realistic option and tell them that is what they should do.

Actually, illegal immigration is as close to a victim-less crime as its possible to imagine. The benefits illegal immigrants bring to our country are massive; the drawbacks, very few. And almost without exception, people don't come here illegally without having exhausted every legal avenue. Coming here legally is very very difficult. Absurdly so, honestly.

@Semi, considering the US allows approximately 1 million LEGAL immigrants into our country each year, which is more than any country in the ENTIRE WORLD, I'd say our requirements apparently aren't that difficult.

And no, breaking the law because its tough to do it legally is no better excuse than robbing a bank because getting a great paying job is tough

"Illegal immigration is NOT a victimless crime. It causes increased drug use and drug violence in our country."

Illegal immigration, in and of itself, doesn't cause increased drug use and drug violence. Drug trafficking does. Those are two separate things.

"It causes health costs to skyrocket when illegal immigrants go to the emergency room with no insurance. It increases education costs."

The DREAM Act would reduce the deficit according to the CBO.

"Mexico has one of the top 15 economies in the world."

14th for total national GDP. However, when you factor in population (per capita) it falls to 58th. That's the more relevant one for determining how the average person in a nation is doing economically.

Chris B,

Not quite the same issue. However, on a per capita basis the US is about 22nd in the world in allow immigration (per Forbes).

Immigrating illegally allows a man to feed his family and that "brings a great sense of satisfaction and accomplishment".
