FWIW, Taysom Hill's running - and all of BYU's run game - wasn't
the problem in the BYU game.Do not misunderstand me: BYU beat us and
we lost the game. I am not trying to paint a moral victory. We lost
because we didn't get our heads on straight after Chuckie went down,
because Harrisson (good kid, not trying to knock him) isn't a very good QB,
and because our secondary made poor choices.I foresee us holding the
run game in check, keeping the score low, but not doing enough on offense to
win. I hear Garretson will start the bowl game, though, so I hope McGiven can
come up with a good game plan and for gosh sakes make some adjustments if it
doesn't work out the way he think it does.Go Aggies!
Hope we get two bowl wins from the in state schools. To bad it couldn't of
been three.Go Aggies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Go
@worf: Check out the Stan Laub Indoor Training Center. It's warm.One projection last week that had Utah State playing Buffalo (128 Sagarin SoS;
5 OT to beat Stony Brook!). I had hoped for a tougher match up than that and I
think we got it.The loss to BGSU and Sagarin SoS rating of 113 tell
us NIU us not *great*, but it looks like a solid match for where the Aggies are
now and should be an exciting game. Aggie fans who lived through the Mick
Dennehy years are loving the direction of this program right now. This is a
tough but winnable game. My navy and white is ready for the day after
Christmas. GO AGGIES!
USU is the only Utah football team that is facing a rank team in a bowl game.
How long has it been since any Utah football team played a ranked opponent in a
bowl Game? I am just wondering.
I have to agree with LEDSFW. I'm not sure that NIU has faced a defense as
tough as the Aggies. The opposing quarterback looks great, but what type of
defenses did they have to face this year in the MAC?The offense NEEDS to
show up. I was very frustrated watching the ineffectiveness of the offense on
Over the past while, it's been unusual for the Aggies to lose 2 games in a
row. They usually bounce back from a lose really well. That's what
they'll do this time... after a hard fought game against Fresno. Playing 2 nationally ranked 1-loss teams in a row is a tall order.and a big
challenge. But I genuinely think the Aggies are up this challenge and will take
care of business in their nationally televised bowl game... just like they did
last year against Toledo. They will represent our state well... as will BYU. Go USU.Go BYU.
So San Diego is serving up MAC and Cheese! NIU is very good, but also MAC (Mid
America Conference). MAC says a lot about them as well. Even the MAC is a tier
or two below the present MWC so USU probably played a much more difficult
schedule. I think the teams will be well matched. NIU hasn't faced that
many great defenses this season. USU is top drawer on the stop side for sure.
NIU does have a potent offense and a pretty good defense for MAC standards.
*Correction: ...after Saturday, the day BEFORE yesterday...
This is a GREAT opportunity for the Aggies to pull off the upset, especially
after yesterday when they nearly did so against another one loss (Fresno State)
team. In fact, I think both bowl games are more than either Utah State or BYU
could have hoped for, so here's to both: may all the teams from Utah
return home from their bowl games in California victorious. If both teams start
out strong, should be very doable. Should be a great bowl season!
Congrats to Utah State. Attn to the offense. Throw the ball to your tight
ends. This will keep Northern Illinois defense honest. Go Aggies. From a UTE
Goodbye Boise. Congrats to USU. Great matchup.
If Bowling Green could do what they did to NIU, then I think USU's got a
very realistic chance! I think the Aggies can compete quite well and will
probably pull an upset which I hope they do.From a Cougar fan...Go
Do the Aggies have a warm place to practice?
@SLCWatchNot sure what point you're trying to make. Are you
saying Taysom Hill ran all over the Aggies in the BYU game? Game stats would
prove otherwise. Hill had 9 carries for 14 yards. They don't need track
shoes for that kind of containment.....they could use my grandmother's
I've watched several USU games this year and they have the one thing that
no other College team had in Utah this year. HEART! I expect them to go toe to
toe with NIU just like they did with Fresno State. Go Aggies!!!
Although they are probably excited about the location, NIU has got to be
somewhat disappointed about the opponent. On the other hand, USU probably feels
a lot of excitement playing a team that was one game away from the BCS.
USU 35NIU 14NIU is a little overrated this year
I pity poor Utah State. This draw is not going to be fun. If the Aggies
thought containing Taysom Hill was hard they're in for a surprize with
Lynch. Put your football cleats away and get your track shoes out boys. This
is a buzz saw coming up on balsa wood. And I liked what the Aggies did.
It's just not going to be pretty.
NIU will be a tough game, but I'm looking forward to heading down to San
Diego instead of a frigid trip to Idaho. As it's already been said,
hopefully the offense can pull their weight this game, the defense has showed
it can do more than its fair share to keep them in it. Two weeks to prep,
I'm sure Wells will have them ready to go
I'm sure glad that Rhett Wilkinson, D-news writer, was wrong when he wrote
his article about how the Aggie's wouldn't make it to a bowl game
after the loss of Chuckie and Whimpy. Then we lost four more starter on offense
and here we are losing the Mountain West championship game and playing a quality
team in a bowl game. This has been a fun year to see players step in and play,
adding to a quality team.
Defense will be great as usual but the Aggies paper tissue O-line needs help
Holy Cow, from the frying pan to the fire. 2 non-AQ BCS hopefuls in a row. Hope
we can find some offense by game time to give the defense some rest. Otherwise
it will be a long night. Way to go Ags, Boise is nice, but California will be a
Very tough draw for the Aggies! Hopefully the defense can play well again to
make this a game, otherwise, NIU's former-heisman hopeful may be very
difficult to handle.
