Fans will be fans. Years ago I tried to take a 13 year-old daughter to UTE
football games. Crude chants, profanity and drunkenness brought that to an end.
I expect others had the same experience. Sounds like RSL is on the same path.
It's their choice, of course.
I agree that SKC messed up the ticketing. Your article states, "When
Sporting Kansas City (SKC) posted a season ticketholders-only presale on the
Internet, RSL fans cracked the access code." My understanding is that a
Kansas City media source posted the code. What happens when a code is posted?
Yes, it spreads. RSL fans didn't crack or hack any system. Yes, the
posted code was used by RSL fans. SKC (and MLS and Ticketmaster) need to do
better in the future (and realize codes that can be posted on the internet are
NOT SECURE - duh). Other thoughts - 1) give more of the stadium's tickets
to the visiting team (only 5% of the stadium isn't enough), or 2) consider
having the event in a larger stadium in a warm location (ala Super Bowl).
Shouldn't Kansas City want traveling fans using its hotels, restaurants,
etc. and boosting their economy?
Like Jim Rome used to say, "Soccer is not a sport, it is a reason to
riot". Good Luck RSL.
