This makes me nervous if everybody LIKES the budget. Usually that means
trouble.IMO you try to trim the budget until EVERYBODY is
complaining a little... and then you probably have it about right. When every
agency is fat-and-happy... you are probably spending too much.
Herbert's budget is a cop-out. The only way to bring our schools out of the
pit of mediocrity they are in is to DOUBLE the education budget. That means
Utah's parents would actually have to pay the price for excellence, which
they are so far unwilling to do. It would limit their ability to buy starter
mansions and boats and big-screen TVs for every room, etc.....
What the citizens need to see is the entire budget... the governor should take
out a full page add in the new paper showing the budget in as much detail as
possible, department by department, etc. The public also deserves to see info
on wages/benefits.Will that ever happen? Not likely. Government
officials aim is to keep the public in relative darkness re where the
citizens' tax money goes.
