@BlueCoug

It pretty amazing that 25% of the head coaches in a conference that didn't want to be associated with BYU are alums of BYU.

----------------

Like the PAC-12, those 25% also don't want to be associated with BYU.

@phantomblade

BlueCoug has it exactly right; the only reason BYU isn't a member of the PAC 12 is because certain schools didn't want to be associated with a private, religiously-based school like BYU or Baylor.

Slice it any way that helps you sleep at night, but the record speaks for itself; BYU's athletic programs, overall, dwarf Utah's - see the Directors' Cup standings for the last 20 years.

-------------

I see you're still hurting.

Speaking of religiously-based schools, what I don't understand is why Baylor and TCU are in the Big 12 and they've even offered Notre Dame an invite yet BYU is still in 40+ years of discussions?

Hey, maybe you can send the Big 12 thh Directors' Cup standings for the last 20 years?

With all the byu guys in the PAC 12, it's interesting that the conference still has no interst in byu itself.

Blue coug and phantom,

Football and football only drives conference changes and invitations.

Byu hasn't had a great season in almost 20 years.

And no, being in the top 25 does not a great season make, 25 teams do it every year.

When was the last top 5 season for byu?

And there you have your answer on why no one wants byu.

I've never cared much for USC. With Sark there, I could become a fan. He's always been very respectful of the Cougs and his time at BYU, unlike Whit who at times takes some real cheap shots at BYU.

Well, gentlemen, that just doesn't appear to be the case, does it.

Good to have so many byu fans weigh in on the coaching shuffle in our conference. I'm sure it's exciting for you.

Good luck to Sark and the Trojans!

Go Pac-12!

Hold on..., is this a new day dawning? No negative BYU comments from little sister? Is that because a BYU Alum is about to take the reigns of the most prestigious school in the PAC-10.2, and there's nothing witty to be said? Afterall, how can you put down this BYU-Alum and still pump up the PAC in the same comment without sounding crazy? It's gotta be closer to April Fools Day than Christmas.

With all this weirdness don't be surprised if the temps reach 60 tomorrow instead of snowing!

Happy Holidays to one and all.

@eastcoastcoug:
Yeah, the radio jock apologized all over himself about "having to ask the question," but there has to be a better way of answering (or non-answering) rather than with an outright lie, which is sure what it sounded like.

The trust of players is key to long-term success, and from reports I've heard second and third hand from some of the kids on the Husky squad, he's got a reputation of being pretty slippery with them too. Hope that's wrong. I want to see USC return to prominence.

So awesome to see byu fans interested in a coaching shuffle in our conference.

Hey, Des News...why is this story on the byu board?

"Mypespective is right on the mark. USC will end up regretting this; just like hiring Kiffin. A lot of fans tooting Sarks horn, simply because he played at BYU. His record at Washington: 5-7, 7-6, 7-6, 7-6 and 8-4. Never, ever sniffed a Rose Bowl, but he's a great coach and a great hire. Yeah, right! Just being brutally honest; someone has to be!"

Thanks, Spokane Ute. To be fair, I think you need to delineate between the fans you refer to as tooting Sarks horn. It's looking like SC fans are not so excited about this. Also it will be interesting to watch who Washington goes after. Rumors are that Mora at UCLA would take the job in a heartbeat...he's a Washington alum. This could become the Pac-12 coaching shuffle.

Can you explain to me why this story, regarding our Pac-12, is on the byu pages?

The answer's in the story's title. A little reading goes a long ways.

Seriously? You want to know why the hiring of Sark is on a BYU page??? Wow. Must not have anything to do with the fact that Sark was QB at BYU for 2 years and led them to a top 10 finish. Other than than, no reason at all.

MyPerspective:
It's really not that difficult...Sark played football at BYU and is now the head coach at USC. The article could just as easily have been on both the Utah and BYU boards, but I have to ask...why do you care what board it's on? USC doesn't care about Utah, and their new head coach has absolutely no Ute ties, so it just seems silly that you've asked the same question twice now, that no one else seems concerned about. Obvioulsy it matters to you so maybe you can elaborate as to why.

"The article could just as easily have been on both the Utah and BYU boards, but I have to ask...why do you care what board it's on?"

Well, it's very simple, Cougsndawgs...I have to go to the byu page to find news on our conference. The reason it appears that I've asked the same question is because it took the Des News monitors so long to post my first question. Did you even think about that? I think it's clear why I'm interested.

USC cares plenty about Utah every time they have to play them. What you really should be asking is if Sark cares about byu. Based on his comments the last he was at byu with his Huskies, I have to say...no.

MyPerspective:
"It's looking like SC fans are not so excited about this".

That's certainly not an accurate portrayal. If you look at the comment boards for the LA Times it's really a mixed bag. Some SC fans are happy with the hire while others aren't. News flash: that's usually how it is after any hire. I remember hearing all the complaints from SC fans when they hired Carroll. My father in law is an SC fan and he's thrilled with this hire but wasn't happy about the Carroll hire...he obviously changed his tune. Sark is NOT Kiffin by a long shot...if you think they're similar you don't watch much CFB. I remember Kiffin at Tennessee coaching in SEC country and he was never welcome and could never compete. And to those saying he's done nothing at U dub...try and remember what Washington's record was before he came along. Can you say 0-12? I'd say 8-4 from 0-12 increasing wins every year isn't too shabbie and the talent he'll have at SC dwarfs that of UW.

"What you really should be asking is if Sark cares about byu. Based on his comments the last he was at byu with his Huskies, I have to say...no."

Uh, Sark was on with all the other QB greats from BYU during media days. He had nothing but praise and said there are still times he misses that atmosphere. He was joking with all the other QBs and talking nothing but praise for BYU and did joke about the fact that Washington can't seem to beat the Cougars lately. Not sure what comments you're referring to, but Sark is competitive and isn't going to back down from BYU or not be aggressive with them when he plays them like anyone else.

I can understand the delay in posting causing you to repeat the question, my bad. Still doesn't matter...this article is in the main sports section without going to BYU or Utah so it just doesn't seem to be that big a deal.

Congratulations to the new sc coach...

That being said...

This is a classic example of why recruits/players should have the same flexibility as coaches.

If an HC leaves...hanging recruits and current players out to dry...looking for a new opportunity without any punishment/sanctions...etc...etc....

Why not give players the same opportunity without any loss of eligibility/punishment?

The old excuse about maintaining competitive balance is nothing more than an old excuse.

LOL at your pretended ignorance. You and I both know that BYU's no Sunday play policy (along with BYU wanting to retain rebroadcast rights to BYU sports) are the only reasons BYU isn't in the Big 12. The excellence of BYU's athletic programs, which are far superior to Utah's, has never been an issue for either the PAC 12 or Big 12.

Try reading the headline:

"Former BYU quarterback Steve Sarkisian hired to be next head coach at USC"

Most USC fans are acutely aware of Sark's connection to BYU; most of them still have a hard time remembering that Utah was invited to be their whipping boy.

Chris B,

When you say that BYU hasn't had a great season in 20 years you obviously have let your zeal for hating on all things BYU again clouds your capacity to correctly state the facts. One particular season comes to mind that quite definitely falls within your 20 year timeframe. 1996, led by Sark himself, BYU had season that not even your Utes have ever accomplished. BYU won 14 games. The first college football team to have ever done so. It's only loss? Ironically, they lost to Washington at Washington. BYU went onto beat Kansas St. In the Cotton Bowl.
