This blog is informative however, the reporter needs to stop wearing his heart
on his sleeve and tell us what is happening and who did it. Let us make our own
decisions on what is inexcusable and what is first week play. Be professional.
Hey can someone wake up the Cougars? Come on now!!!
BYU did not show up for this game
These are two similar teams. Should be close game
So it Nevada your guys rival now?
BYU is being PA-THET-IC.
BYU is embarrassing on both sides of the ball. Poor coaching leads to poor
preparation. On our way to another irrelevant season!
Maybe byu is still hiding their go fast go hard offense until the second half so
Nevada wont know whats coming
5 straight quarters with 0 zero touchdowns LOLIs this
your go fast go hard?
Anyone else see BYU playing against 15. Refs horrible. How does one team have 10
penalties and the other only one
Nevada's defense looks like Alabama!
Robert A doesn't have a clue, he must think the whole field is the blue
zone. shame on the coaching staff for not bringing their A game.
Our QB has regressed! He looks horrible; it's like he won't throw it
unless our guys are wide open. Throw your receiver open QB! 37 yards in the
first half throwing is an embarrassment. He has to be better than this for
heavens sake. 10 first half penalties are ridiculous. Not sure if Nevada has
one or not, but most of those called looked legitimate. The only joke of a call
was the on the first play of the game against 55 for defensive holding,The coaching staff once again doesn't get their team ready to play.
Hopefully the second half will wake the boys up. It's hard to be positive
when you watch such a lack of enthusiasm for the game by your players.
I am tired of the brand of football BYU is playing. Win or lose this game(or
the bowl game), doesn't matter. Time for a change at the top. I like
Bronco, and his tenure at BYU has certainly been respectable, but it is clear
that he cannot recruit the players / coaches needed to get BYU to being a
regular in the top 20 year in and year out.Now maybe BYU is only
concerned with his character and his ability to espouse the "BYU line",
which if so then Bronco is their man. I too recognize the importance of
teaching life skills and furthering the work of the church. But if there is any
desire on the part of the powers that be to get to the next level, I believe
changes are in order.
BYU should be ashamed as a team..Either, the coachesdidn't prepare
the team, or ND did a number on the players. Also the play calling, is the
worst. What happen to Hillas a QB??
Fire the football team, lets get behind the womens soccer team
Does anyone else ever wonder what yard line the ball is on?
Nevada up 14-7LOL!
Virginia all over againLove it!
Boy, some of the comments from the uties are really original! I really hope they
didn't lose any sleep thinking of those. Sounds like a bunch of twelve year
I guess our defense decided to quit!
byu going to get HANDLED by Washington in the bowl game
@2013 Ute SeniorsCongratulations on winning your bowl game today!
byu couldn't beat the #10 team in the Pac12. Chances of them beating the
#6 Washington team?LOL. Let me quote a great line from
a great move:"So you're saying there's a chance"
byu secondary looking like a byu secondary12 penalties for 110
yardsVery undisciplined(and just plain bad) team
BYU playing MUCH better than they were in the first. The important thing is to
finish strong, and BYU is doing that VERY well right now. Go Cougs!
Hey Sweep glad you won your bowl game already today.
@ 2013 Ute Trolls Never RestHey, at least BYU and Utah State are
bowling...but Utah? Not so much.
Any idea how much time in the quarter?
In spite of all the gimme penalties, BYU wins the game, and the offense shows
some life. Definitely some things to work on during the break before the Fight
Hunger Bowl, but I have faith that BYU will prepare and hope for the W come
USNGary"How does one team have 10 penalties and the other only
one." Going into this game BYU has been flagged for 22 more
penalties, resulting in almost 2 hundred more yards than their opponents. Now
granted that is not 10-1, but as Cougar11 mentioned, aside from one, they have
Glad that BYU pulled it out at the end. The team was a shell of itself with all
the stupid penalties. And to all the Y haters *cough ute fans cough*...go back
and check the bowl schedule before talking smack. BYU is going and you're
not; instead U got their consolation bowl vs. colorado. Enjoy the holidays while
BYU and USU go bowling!
Wow, the Ute lover comments are idiotic. They have a game going on at the same
time, but all they can do is type about BYU. BYU is going to a bowl game again.
Utah is staying home again. At least you beat BYU though right? I still
haven't seen a trophy for that.
the fact of the matter is BYU is still going to a bowl game while you ute
fans will be sitting at home playing in the couch potato bowl again,so you
have no right even opening your mouths you have a losing team but haters
will hate because they have no life i guess.
Wow. I said earlier that BYU should run away with this one. Winning is always a
good thing, but this is a pathetic Nevada team. Didn't watch the game as I
watched the Utah game and about 5 other more watchable games were on when that
was over, but playing this badly against a team like that doesn't bode well
whether you play Washington, Oregon State, Washington State or Arizona in San
Francisco. Those are all pretty solid teams.
Hilarious comments from the "ute" fans. Oh sorry Chris, the pac 12
onward and upward utes. How many teams from the pac 12 are going bowling? 9 if
I count right. NINE! Yet even with almost every team in the league going
bowling there are 3 teams that aren't. Merry Christmas to you guys.
Thanks for keeping us entertained with the guarantees all season long. I'm
hoping Wilson can come back and at least make you guys possibly have some sort
of post season.Great comeback by the Cougars today! 28 points on 4
straight possessions. It was almost like the offense wasn't trying in the
first half so they could play the whole game. Now on to watch a
good basketball game between the two best teams in the state!
All Utes are invited to my house to watch the bowl game in Dec!
Lots of Ute fodder. General crunch and munch to chew on while they realize that
today was the last hurrah. That was it. Nuttin else for Christmas. The fat
lady has sung for the U this year. Sort of pathetic really.
Well turns out I wouldn't have been able to watch the game anyway. My Dish
Top 120 plus Premium Sports Package doesn't give me CBS Sports Network. At
this point, ESPN still doesn't even have the box score or any highlights
posted. Great accessibility.
Poor first half, much better in the second. I think the players took this game
way too lightly, thought they would just show up and win. Williams is a beast,
excited for 2 more years of his running. We should have been running more all
game. As for BYU haters comments, let them squawk, a win is a win and we are
going bowling. I guess when your team goes 5 and 7, all you can do is try to
tear down the team that goes 8 and 4.
If I recall correctly football games require two halves. We may have stunk up
the first half but we were only down 7-0. Nevada got by with some trick plays,
favorable penalties ans senior day emotion. We got by on talent and
coaching. Why you folks were commenting like the game was over when
it clearly was not is beyond me.
Like if your team is going to a bowl game! haha
Amazingly poor first half. Hill standing around not seeing open receivers (i
guess). Surely our big receivers were getting open. The zebras can call
something on every play and they did. Overall, BYU didn't respect the
opponent and didn't come in ready to play. But statistically,
BYU dominated. The last Nevada TD was certainly helped by some very bad calls.
The pass interference was callable, but a similar one in the Wisconsin game
against Wisconsin was called off as uncatchable. The Van Noy roughing call was
egregious as the QB was still on his feet and inbounds.MWC refs for
sure.Hope BYU plays Washington in the Kraft bowl. That will be a fun
game. Right now I give the edge to the Dawgs. Price is a much better passer than
Hill (at this stage) and Sankey is better (maybe) than Williams, but BYU defense
is better than Washington's. Dawgs by 10.
BYU athletes can perform any day of the week except Sunday. Hence the Pac 10.2
and Big 12 plus other conferences that have been interested in BYU will NOT
extend invites to their conferences ......Amen. This has nothing to do with
Wins or Loses or who has the best athletes or coaches. This is a Sabbath Day
rule. BYU athletes still sign the dotted line knowing they will not participate
on Sunday. BYU haters give the athletes who chose to come to school at BYU some
Thanks for providing me with a financially successful season. I bet on you not
to beat the spread all season, and you only disappointed me once. Keep up the
Its exciting to know that Williams and Hill are both just sophomores!
It's funny when BYU was burning up the "blue zone ", The media
would never called it the "blue zone ". Now that they struggle in the
"blue zone" media mentions it all the time.Dear media,
please keep calling it the blue zone. The tables will turn and BYU will score
like they did in the past.
A tale of two halves for sure. BYU was pathetic in the first half, but
dominated in the second half. Williams was outstanding.Don't
worry about the ute trolls, most of the comments are from the same BYU hater
with multiple monikers.Looking forward to watching the Aggies in the
MWC championship and their bowl game, and the Cougs in their bowl game. After week 1, chris predicted a Rose Bowl appearance, but alas the Utes
didn't even qualify for the New Mexico Bowl to play the MWC #4 team.
What was wrong in the 1st half? Sure, the team didn't seem up for the
game. But, chew on this stat: Jamaal Williams touched the ball just 3 times in
the whole first half.I kept hearing that Nevada was a team you can
run on. BYU certainly proved that in the 2nd half. If that were true, then why
did they keep trying to pass so much in the 1st half of the game? It seemed the
ball was in Hill's hands the whole time during the 1st half. Now, I know,
Hill is an amazing rusher; for a Quarterback. However, you just cannot ignore
your starting RB for a whole half. Williams busted his 1st run for nearly 30
yards, but it didn't come until BYU's second drive. After that, they
ignored him for pretty much the next 23 minutes. Inexcusable. Was it Anae not
calling his number? Was Hill just not running the right plays? Regardless,
Fight Hunger Bowl ayee?. Let's keep fighting 'til we get to a betta
bowl instead of playing hungry for a bowl.
With the regular season over, a couple of things are clear.Anae has
no feel for reading a game. It was clear Nevada couldn't stop the run but
Anae kept calling pocket pass plays for Hill. Everyone in the stadium except
was Anae was baffled as to how Williams could have only 3 carries in the fist
half.Hill is uncomfortable reading defenses and going through his
progressions. He's got a strong arm and when he has a scripted pass, with
a designated receiver, he throws the ball well. When he has to read the
coverage, he's indecisive, has no confidence and will only throw the ball
to wide open receivers. The best defense being played against Hill is by
Anae, who rarely calls plays that take advantage of Hill's strengths and
more often puts him in positions where his weaknesses are exposed.Something is up with Van Noy. Don't know if he's hurt or just
distracted, but over the past month he's failed to finish more plays than I
can count. He's been in a great position and just can't get anyone on
This game sort of summed up the season, some poor play, some good play, no
consistency but enough to win eight against what turned out to be a fair
schedule but certainly no blockbuster. Offense what I expected, defense a
little less than I expected.
I kept my expectations very low and BYU played as I expected. This was just
It is impossible for a college football team to get "up" for 12 games -
nobody can do it, as witnessed by Wisconsin getting blown out by a bad Penn St
team today AT HOME!BYU can't get up for 12 games either as we
saw today. They came out flat but got it going in the second half for the win.
They realized another bad loss would've been a disaster.Utes
can't get up for 12 games either as witnessed in the Wash St game.
A win is a win no matter how poorly the game is played. I appreciate that I
will be able to watch MY team play in late December. And I am sad for the Ute
fans whose team won't be playing again until next season.
This one is on the Coaches. Bronco claimed after the game, like he always does,
that the competition (Nevada) is a fine football team. That's a bunch of
horse hockey! Nevada was pitiful this year and everyone (except the brilliant
Bronco Mendenhall) knows it. THis years Wolfpack team was POOR. Yet our
coaching staff couldn't put together a game plan. Robert Anae continues to
show us why he was "fired" the first time. It's time for BYU and
its coaches to put up or shut up. Broncos phony Humble statements and
postgame interviews need to go. Let loose a little so that your players,
assistant coaches and fans know you're not a robot. Time to move to the
next level and we need a coaching staff who don't act like zombies
Let's get some excitement in Provo and not just the same old boring
Thanks for an entertaining season, Cougars, and one that extends play into
December. Thanks, PAC 12, for some great games as your elite beat up
on each other. Your bottom feeders were as predicted and don't make any
noise except in the newspapers in their home towns. That about sums
@ RevKIt's called the Beehive Boot. I'm not surprised you
have never seen it though. It spends most of its time in SLC these days.
Just read all the comments... Very entertaining... Thanks ute fans...Looks like the Cougs get the U of Dub on 12/27/13 in SF at the Fight Hunger
Bowl (this year's bowl game for BYU... the 9th in a row)... I actually feel
pretty good about it... Cougs are 4-3 against the Huskies and this will
hopefully make it 5-3 (unfortunately for the utes they are still winless against
the Huskies and they are in the same conference now)... The U of Dub are 8-4 on
the year after whipping the WSU Cougars this afternoon (the same team that
jumped on the utes last week)... Incidentally, I do want to offer
congratulations to the utes... They beat a very tough opponent from the
University of Colorado today who had previously knocked over such powerhouses as
Central Arkansas, Charleston Southern, and (1-11) California (who eeked out a
win against Portland State earlier in the season)...this win allowed the utes to
"snag" 10th place out of 12 teams(as the DN said about their Basketball
team last year). Good job...
BYU goes 8-4 and you want to fire the coach. Really. USU finished the same
and Romney stadium had a record crowd. BYU fans whine to much.
Hey 2013 Ute Seniors SWEEP byU 4-0Why don't you go gloat over
your big win over Colorado...you have so much to be proud of this year. I do
give you credit for beating us again. Hope you enjoy watching us beat a Pac 12
Team in the Kraft Hunger Bowl!
@poyman - it is Udub not U of Dub.BYU has owned the Dawgs lately,
but I think Udub is better this year. Bishop Sankey and QB Price are really
good, though Price has been hurt.Should be a close game, but I pick
Udub by 10. On the other hand, Bronco wins bowl games ....
Maybe they can buy into the Mountain West or Big Sky conference next year.
2ferIt's laughable that the only thing that the mighty PAC 12
utes have to crow about nowadays is winning the state championship - sounds a
little high-schoolish, don't ya think?
I don't know what was said at halftime but I wish he would do that more
often when his team is playing uninspired football..ie Virginia, Utah, Wisconsin
and Notre Dame. This is football not sunday school after all.
Final Regular Season Standings (BCS/Sagarin)#38/#28 BYU(8-4) #32
SOS#58/#33 Utah(5-7) #1 SOSFor the 6th time in 9 seasons
during the Bronco/Kyle era, BYU finishes with a better record and higher ranking
than their little brothers on the hill.
@ Riddles in the DarkI would trade success over in-state teams for
success in the PAC any day. However, I was just correcting the assertion that
Utah does not get a trophy for being the best in-state team. Also,
don't forget that this is the third time in the past three years that Utah
has finished with a significantly higher SOS. Switch Utah places with BYU or USU
and you will see the records switch places as well, give or take a game.
Two For Flinching, there was a time not many years ago where the Beehive boot
was almost a lost item (actually lost) because BYU had held it for so long.
Those days are not over. Also do you really embrace CO as your rival?
I doubt it.
Two For Flinching "....I would trade success over in-state teams for success
in the PAC any day.."Wow, that statment says a lot about U guys.
And its a terribly pathetic statement. So it goes as no surprise that
you must be okay with how the season shoot out then despite the fact that utah
is not going bowling again.
The Y had their chance for success this year with games against the U as well as
Wisconsin and ND and they lost all three. The eight wins only came because of
cup cakes like Nevada and the other no-names they played. I think you ought to
have to earn a bowl invite by having 8 quality wins...not just 8 wins.
2fer"Also, don't forget that this is the third time in the
past three years that Utah has finished with a significantly higher SOS."BYU's 2013 #32 SOS was HIGHER than ANY previous schedule in Utah
history. Prior to this season, the toughest SOS Utah had ever played was #41
last season. BYU played tougher schedules in 2003 (#14), 2004 (#11), and 2013
(#32). Since Sagarin already calculates SOS into his ranking
formula, why do whiny Utah fans continue to falsely claim that Utah's lower
ranking is solely attributable to Utah's tougher SOS?bottom
line:2013 #28 BYU > #33 Utah2012 #26 BYU > #61 Utah2011 #34 BYU > #39 UtahAccording to the new Utah fan
narrative, where SOS trumps all, Utah's 2004 and 2008 seasons were really
quite meaningless, since the Utes only played the 67th and 56th toughest
schedules in 2004 and 2008.
patriot"The eight wins only came because of cup cakes like
Nevada and the other no-names they played."LOL at your
desperate, and deceitful, claim. Any fan trying to claim that TEXAS
is a no-name cupcake has already lost all credibility. With a #34 SOS the
dwarf's Utah's #67 2004 and #56 2008 SOSs, the Longhorns are one win
away from winning the Big 12 championship and playing in a BCS bowl game.BYU beat SIX bowl teams that will each finish with at least 7 regular
season wins:#32 Texas(8-3)#92 Mid Tenn St(8-4)#42 Utah
St(8-4)#30 Ga Tech(7-5)#47 Houston(8-4)#46 Boise St (8-4)
Pardon my ignorance, but what is Udub or U of Dub? Never heard the term before!
Great point, PAC Man.Since BYU's strength of schedule this year
is a little tougher than Utah's SOS last year, we now have apples and
apples to compare. The verdict is that BYU certainly CAN compete at a high
level, and that since BYU went 8-4 (going to a bowl game as well) with the #32
ranked SOS this year, if they were in Utah's situation in the PAC they
could also do 8-4 and go to a bowl game. After all, if you can go 8-4 against
the #32 schedule, why not be able to go 8-4 against the #41 schedule? Also, as has already been pointed out, the rankings already consider SOS.
Hence BYU will ranked higher than Utah (in other words, BYU will be considered
nationally to be the better team) DESPITE their SOS, not because of it.
@anti BCS, I believe that patriot is one of those Chris B types who live under
the delusion that every team in the PAC12 is better than any other team BYU
played.Everybody with an IQ over 60 knows this isn't the case,
but it helps em justify mediocrity and to be okay with the U not going bowling
@anti BCS,Shows how really terrible the BIG 12 is. Right?
thebigsamoan, if your question was serious, I believe it is a acronym commonly
used for University of Washington.
Congratulations to BYU on the win. However the small margin of victory is a
concern. If the Cougar Administration's goal is to be ranked in the top 25
next year they are going to have to slap Washington around in their bowl game.
Their strength of schedule next year will not do it alone. Luckily the Cougs
will not have a loss to a 5 - 7, 10th place PAC 12 team showing up on their
resume. The Utes really need to up their game so they quit dragging Utah's
winning teams resumes down. But it is like the Ute faithful say, better to lose
in a big pond than win in a small pond. We'll I gotta run, getting ready
for USU' s 2 remaining bowl games. Some of our teams earned the right to
continue to play. Can't wait to read Crispy's and Stang08's
negative rhetoric next week. Will they still comment now that their seasons are
over? I imagine so. However, Crispy's repetitive assertions are becoming
more and more mundane and less relavent.
There's no place like home for the holidays... Just like Nick Saban in
2008, Stanford didn't really want to be in SLC this season. They got
owned...or maybe they weren't that good anyway. Just like Pitt in 2004.
@ Surf is UpWhy is that pathetic? Conf. wins are far more important
than wins over USU and BYU. I'm sorry to burst your bubble but the Y is not
the center of the universe. And no, I would prefer Utah was bowling. Hence the
reason I said I would trade in-state wins for wins in the PAC-12. Reading
comprehension, bud. Give it a try sometime.
@ PAC manAnd if this Utah team had been lucky enough to play the
32nd ranked schedule it too would have 7-8 wins. If BYU played the #1 ranked
SOS, the Cougs would have probably missed a bowl game as well. And yes, Sagarin
includes SOS in his ranking, but win total is weighted much heavier than SOS.
That is the reason 11-win North Dakota St. and Eastern Illinois both found their
way into the top 30. Coincidentally, ranked above both BYU and Utah. Do you
honestly believe the Bison or Panthers are better than the Cougs and Utes?
Ranking rewards teams for a season of work, they do not necessarily pick the
best team. That is determined by on-field results.
Love the cougs and glad they won, but I gotta admit, they really under achieved
this year. Gotta hand it to the Aggies, for the second year in a row they are
obviously the best college football team in the state. Too bad Keaton and
Whimpey were lost to injury. You guys would have really made some noise with
them playing a full season.
@Surf is UpMiami, FL"thebigsamoan, if your question was
serious, I believe it is a acronym commonly used for University of
Washington."I see that it is some kind of an acronym for UW!
But what does it mean or stand for? Udub or U of Dub? I'm seriously
curious to know. But, if it's something derogatory to that great
institution, then I don't care to know and no one need to respond. And thank you Surf, for caring enough to respond.Go Cougars!
Go Aggies! and good luck in basketball this year Utes! Sorry we won't
get to play you one more time in a bowl like I had hoped! On the other hand,
after witnessing the 1st half against Nevada last weekend, maybe it was a good
thing after all. The possibility of going 5 and 0 against the Utes would be too
much for me to swallow.
thebigsamoan, nothing derogatory, they just call it UDub because it is short for
UW ("You Double-You"-->"You Dub"-->UDub). Nationally,
it's synonymous with Washington, but people in Wyoming and Wisconsin
sometimes say it in connection with the Cowboys or Badgers, respectively, where
it is generally understood, just like nationally "The U" is synonymous
with Miami (Fl), but locally understood and attributed to the U of Utah.
